Ideally 5-8 day cruise Departure Port Preference in Order 1. Fort Lauderdale 2. Miami 3/4. Orlando/Tampa Any suggestions would be appreciated. Hi, do you have a preference for cruise line? I would suggest this...since you are quite flexible with ports and you have 2 full weeks to work with...….(and I would do what I am suggesting)…..find a TA and tell them what you want OR you could contact all the Mass Market lines because there are ALOT that sails from those places....contact each and get ONE person to help you....Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, NCL, would be start...….that is 4 cruiselines to start. As for last minute deals? You are at that point now...it is already Feb 18th...….call them, see what the best price is you can get, if it is within your range.....then make a decision and go for it. MHF Posted February 20, 2019 #877 Share Posted February 20, 2019 Lois (and everyone)...heads up... Silversea just added a few new 0 or 25% supplement cruises to their website. I switched November cruises because of it. The San Juan to Fort Lauderdale has islands I like better than the Charleston to Barbados run AND it's an easier flight arrangement. Free air and transfers too.

Some offer free air, some don't. The date I'm leaving is Nov.11 from San Juan on the Whisper. I was leaving Nov.10 from Charleston SC on the Wind. Both are 11 days. Rickpt Posted February 21, 2019 #883 Share Posted February 21, 2019 For solos who need to plan ahead for Florida Dec 2019. RC Oasis OTS 5* Dec 8 & 15 Miami ~ $760 Inside. I'm one day drive to Fla and wait for last minute deals of ~ $70/day. A 3% SS. Not bad. Air travel is expensive on short notice. If anyone sees a price drop on NCL Jewel 5/20 & 27, please report it. I miss Alaska. Rick

I went to SS boards and admit I was a bit abrupt/rude in my questions, it certainly is a different type of cruise, might be a once in a lifetime event to experience. The rep told me basically it's "just no jeans" and you don't" have" to be formal.
bones774 Posted February 21, 2019 #886 Share Posted February 21, 2019 Addtitional info regarding the cruises, just got off the phone with a rep. Looking at the PR departure in March and this is considered a last minute booking and they do not/will not include airfare but will give an extra $500 off. For me from NY area the airfare would be in $600-$700 range depending on carrier and non-stop vs 1 stop. Also offered a $1500 obc, so it's not a bad deal other than airfare. Plus there is a "wave" discount($250) because it is considered the shoulder season. If I could get a better airfare wouldn't be bad.

I think the bigger question for jmsync might be the ages. Granted, I haven't sailed with them. Despite the current reduced single supplement, I can't confirm that flights from Canada are included and the quoted per day rate in Cdn is still ~3 times my normal per day budget. As I am not a big drinker and generally do my own 'shore tours', it appears to be wasted benefits for me. The same reason I book cheap cabin fares rather than fares with bonuses or 'free' stuff. I am not a profitable customer as I spend very little on board. But, it might be a once in a lifetime event.

I thought the $1500 obc would be waste, buying polo shirts and crap?, not me, but on second thought you could put it towards excursions we would not normally spend $$$ on making it a really extra vacation. There are ways of converting non refundable OBC to cash, I've done it on other lines just not sure if I/we could do it here, that would be a home run. I'll have to go to SS boards and see what I could learn, I might be persona non grata there since my earlier post

It's another one of those luxury cruise lines. Clientele is quite elderly and not really a fun crowd. older people can be fun. These folks were not. Alot of regulars on these lines and they tend to be self promoting- which is the most charitable way I can think of putting it.

There are usually no/few kids on board and at age 55, I'm toward the younger end. But the service is fabulous and it's nice to pay for the cruise and never get out your key card for anything but entry into the room. Cappuccino or soda? Included. Wine or cocktail or martini-making class? Most included, some higher end bottles are pay. Gratuities? as SS says, none required, none expected. Dress? comfy during the day for excursions or pool; could be formal (jacket/tie) at night for main dining room or not, depending on schedule, which they publish online ahead of time. Don't want dressy? go to the Grill or Italian. All rooms have a window or balcony along with a couch/chair and table and fabulous closet and bath. A lot of times they run a free bus to city center if the ship docks a bit away. There are no photographers chasing you. Not included...shore excursions, dry cleaning/pressing, pre-fixe restaurant, casino bets, spa treatments.
SeaTheW0rld Posted February 22, 2019 #891 Share Posted February 22, 2019 (edited) MSC has some fire-sale prices on Divina's transatlantic 3/14/2019. I booked a 20 night inside gty, solo, for $983 (1100ish with taxes and fees). I got upgraded to a balcony (YMMV). They have a great status match program, too. Why fly to fll Where will you fly out of? Genoa or ficunteria? I debark in Genoa. I booked a couple weeks ago. Flights back to PA from Genoa were about $3k. I'm going to take the train to FCO (rome airport) $55, booked a room AT the airport $231 and the flight home was $650 by the time I added an exit row and checked luggage. That's one-way. I basically have almost as much in the flight as I do the whole cruise. That's the peril of a re-positioning cruise. Still, $2k for a 21 day cruise in a balcony cabin is a steal. It's a cool itinerary, too. We overnight in NYC, Bermuda, Ponte Delgada and Lisbon. It's rare that cruises do that.
jmsnyc Posted February 22, 2019 #897 Share Posted February 22, 2019 Want to go on NCL from Miami on either March 3 or March 10. Lowest for studio before taxes is $1269. thinking that is not a deal, New Orleans is cheaper but the airfare will offset it for me as I am about an hour from Miami port and 10 minutes from Fort Lauderdale port. Is there a way to search Royal for one person? I can't see single costs until I click through

It was my experience that the fun people found each other regardless of age or whether or not they're were traveling solo.
