kruisey Posted September 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) Threads for those organizing private tours? Potstech Posted September 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2016 I thought that was one of the reasons for having a roll call for an individual cruise. Along with people on that cruise giving and obtaining information on that ship and particular ports they were going to. What do you think the Roll Calls are for? JF - retired RRT Posted September 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2016 There wouldn't be many posts on a thread, if you take out the ones about excursions. IMHO the problem is that a lot of roll calls don't have an organizer who makes a separate spreadsheet or Shutterfly page to keep all the tour info in one place. vampiress Posted September 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2016 what do you think a roll call should be? and how would you keep chatter separated int he threads? personally i feel 1 thread per cruise seems appropriate for coordination amongst guests for excursions/dinners and also for introducing yourself. splitting those into separate threads would seem to remove the chance of finding people on your cruise to interact with. Rare JimmyVWine Posted September 6, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 6, 2016 Not separate threads. But if members of a roll call want to organize tours and the like, they can always set up a shared document in the cloud. Better than having this site host all of those details. Carolyn R Posted September 6, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2016 Short answer, no.
skynight Posted September 6, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 6, 2016 It's no for me also. Without the tour information a roll call would be idle chatter, not worth even logging in.
sherryf Posted September 6, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2016 Personally, I've never been on a roll call where any tours were arranged. Maybe it doesn't happen much on Alaska cruises? My roll calls have all been just chit chat, talk about ports, etc. A couple of times there have been meet & greets arranged, but not all the time. My most recent roll call was really slow and hardly worth being on at all.
Colo Cruiser Posted September 6, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) I would not participate in a sepreate thread roll call. :( Edited September 6, 2016 by Colo Cruiser

On the first about 400 of the 2000 passengers had previously sailed with Princess. On the second it was about 600 of 2600. For each there were less than 100 posts. Rare Kinkacruiser Posted September 6, 2016 #14 Share Posted September 6, 2016 Sharing private tour information is the main reason I join a roll call since I'm not big on chatter. Couldn't agree more. One needs to subscribe to the thread in order to nominate for an organised private tour. If you "subscribe to a thread" you can tune in when the tours pop up. Please - no separate threads. Princess ended up combining the Platinum/Elite get together with the Most Traveled get together because most of the passengers on the ship had blue cards. In contrast, there are quite active roll calls for my next two cruises and they are 397 days and 558 days in the future! kruisey Posted September 6, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted September 6, 2016 I like interaction on Roll Calls. Take the Princess tours because being old and decrepit:eek:I need the easy ones marked easy going:) One can open up a big roll call and the page can consist example we have so many spaces left ........'Oh add me ' OK your added ''....it goes on and on like that for pages. The only time some folks are on the roll call is to 'Promote' a tour.Do they get a kickback or something when they are so persistent about their tour.? Please lets also talk about Ports of Call and those interested in organizing events on board during the long sea days as well all. FREE no charge.;):) Oh deary me I am in for another blast off from someone no doubt:eek:
myfuzzy Posted September 6, 2016 #17 Share Posted September 6, 2016 I live in an area where the only cruising is done in a five foot row boat in the local creek, so when I book a cruise, I get so excited, I look forward to joining the roll call to "meet" others and find out information on the ship and islands and look forward to joining in on activities on sea days (keeps me out of the casino LOL). This upcoming cruise, I gained no insight on the ship or islands, tours were pre planned outside the roll call, and no activities are scheduled on board. My question is, if one posts on a roll call, I would surmise there would be interest to discuss upcoming plans, why would one post, "I'm on this cruise" and never hear from them again. Doesn't make sense, if you aren't going to post, then why post just once. Another is why are threads for roll calls allowed to be made up years in advance? There are roll calls forward of 2018, most are typos on the dates, therefor, wouldn't those be deleted? Lately, I notice the cruise lines are having multiple "legs" on a larger itineraries, its hard for some people to follow multiple "legs" and only want one roll call for that particular itinerary, I think shorter "leg" roll calls are better, focusing on only the ports for that particular leg, and people only on that leg. I'm not going to "blast" you, but you seem to be operating under the impression that the former of your two statements is unnecessary and unwelcome whereas the latter is the "true" purpose of a Roll Call. Suffice it to say that many people disagree with that. The Roll Call serves both purposes (off ship and on ship planning) equally and should continue to do so. You are just going to have to train your eyes to skip over the "Who else want to go Cave Tubing" posts just as I train my eyes to skip over the "Slot Pull" and "Cabin Crawl" posts. To advertise ones private tours is part of the roll( I mention PART) call there seems such urgency in some of these appeals that take up whole pages. Do some get kickbacks or a free excursion for all the sweat some go through to get these places filled?;) Folks might want to check out Princess and the private tours before making their choices but the private tours always are promoted months before Princess opens up:cool:. Its nice to have a mixture on every subject .The roll call was never supposed to be for folks arranging private tours only.
Rare JimmyVWine Posted September 6, 2016 #22 Share Posted September 6, 2016 The roll call was never supposed to be for folks arranging private tours only. I guess that I am missing your point then, because I have never seen a Roll Call whose "only" purpose was to arrange private tours. Of course, I generally don't troll Roll Calls for cruises that I am not on unless I am looking to find some specific information, so my sample size may be too small to matter. Perhaps you can provide a link to such a thread so that we can see what all the folderol is about.

Nan_Sea Posted September 6, 2016 #25 Share Posted September 6, 2016 My introduction to CC was several years ago for a 28 day cruise LA to Tahiti. Someone on that roll call setup a shutterfy page with the Rollcall list, tours, activities etc. It was very organized and a great help. People still chatted on the regular roll call but there was no need to keep posting shore excursions etc over and over again. I found it to be a big help.
