Self service Laundry and Iron on Eclipse

We have just returned from Eclipse and whilst we benefit from a limited amount of laundry/pressing/dry cleaning via CC, we have always taken and used a clothes steamer with no problems or hassle - it's just like a kettle really and I can't see why X would consider it any more of a risk then the provided kettle - apparently they are not allowed but we have sailed with X annually and never had any issues arise.

Still, clothes steamers are forbidden. You may have gotten away with bringing one, but many passengers find themselves in trouble for having brought one. Their luggage is held in the "naughty room" and not delivered to their stateroom until the forbidden item is removed. While it may seem like a safe item to you, Celebrity has a restriction against it.

We take it in our hand luggage with no attempt to conceal, and have done every time - we also take great care in using it.They provide a kettle anyway, and this is simply a smaller version. Should they decide to confiscate it then so be it. We only found out from CC that we shouldn't take it just before our latest cruise having sailed with X (and an unconcealed steamer) multiple times.

Whilst we always stick to the rules, this policy is clearly to protect profit they make through laundry services.

If it really was a safety issue then why do they allow ladies curling tongs and other such appliances that get hot?

And what about these Samsung phones that are bursting into flames?

If safety was the real issue then bringing these items onboard would have been addressed already.

Off topic (a bit) and maybe a silly question....but I've been curious for a while now....would anyone know if the laundry sent from each cabin is washed/dried by the room steward on each deck or does it go to a large laundry somewhere on the ship? Just seems that is an awful lot of laundry which could go missing if it's in a central location....it made sense to me to keep a laundry on each deck and perhaps have staff assigned to it?

Doing your own laundry while on a cruise? Next, will passengers want to prepare their own food or to clean their own cabins?

You are on VACATION. If you or hubby have some underwear or socks to wash in the sink and hang overnight on the shower clothesline - fine - but splurge a little bit and let the ship's laundry take care of anything else.

Irons are on the forbidden list. Obey the rules. I believe electric tea kettles are not allowed from US ports, either.

We had two bags of laundry done on the 3 Oct cruise on Equinox. Undergarments and socks mainly. Nothing delicate. They came back fine, but the "fold" in wash dry fold is a stretch. T shirts were folded. That's about it. No biggie.

Kettles are not provided on any sailings to my knowledge, except ones that roundtrip from the UK.

Laundry is done in one central laundry. Same place the towels and sheets and tablecloths are done. All laundry is done in hot water and fully dried. Do not send anything to the laundry that would suffer from such treatment. There are dry cleaning options on board as well as laundry but of course those cost more. And pressing only options.

Kettles are not provided on cruises in the Caribbean.

The rules are set out for a reason,in particular the safety of the ship and passengers.

Why would it be considered safe to have room kettles on sailings from Southampton and not in the Caribbean.

Surely its racist for Celebrity to assume American passengers are not as safety conscious as UK passengers.

Does the Eclipse have any self service laundry facilities? Last time we were on celebrity in 2014 it was not the case and wonder if anything has changed. Wife wants to know in case she needs touch up ironing. Thanks

There is a full laundry and dry-cleaning service available onboard for reasonable rates.
