patronius Posted November 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2016 I'll be on the EPIC in Feb and I have the UBP. On all my previous cruises I usually bought a bucket of beer, both because it was slightly cheaper and also because I could bring several beers in their bucket of ice back to my cabin. I assume they won't let me get a bucket on the UBP. I know that's to prevent someone from getting drinks for others using the UBP. I understand that and would have no intention of doing that. But that does inconvenience me. My question is how have others dealt with this? I like the convenience of having 3 or 4 cold beers in my cabin. Do I have to leave my cabin every time I want a beer? Or am I missing something? TIA.
NLH Arizona Posted November 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2016 As you said, they are keeping folks from purchasing drinks for others, so there is no way around it that I know of. If you want it covered under your UBP, you'll have to go to a bar and get one. If you don't mind paying for it, you can order a beer from room service, take it from the mini bar or bite the bullet and purchase a bucket of beer, if having multiple ones in your cabin is important to you. MeHeartCruising Posted November 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) Buy one bucket of beer on the first day or have your steward bring you an empty bucket for your cabin. Start at one end of the ship with one other person with you. Get one beer at each bar you pass-- tell the bartender you are taking it back to your cabin for later -- most will probably let you leave with it unopened, especially for a dollar or two tip. If not, move on to the next bar. Have the other person guard the accumulated beers somewhere away from the bar at each stop. By the time you get to your cabin, you have 17 beers to put in your bucket. Add ice. Edited November 12, 2016 by MeHeartCruising

Buford T Justiice Posted November 12, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2016 Sometimes the bartenders don't crack the seal on the aluminum can. If they crack the seal on the can, drink it; it they don't crack the can, take it to the cabin and then get another beer. Give the bartender a buck or two and tell them you'll open it later. Vacationlover2 Posted November 12, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 12, 2016 I always take one or two up to my room per day to hoard lol. Just ask the bartender not to open them. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
SNJCruisers Posted November 13, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 13, 2016 You cruise to stay in cabin drinking beer, right? lol :p Some people like to chill on their balcony. Assuming that the OP has one, what is wrong with watching the sea go by with a cold one in your hand? Or enjoying a beer while you're getting showered and dressed for dinner (no matter what type of cabin you're in) Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app
Valen9 Posted November 13, 2016 #11 Share Posted November 13, 2016 If you have a travelling companion who also has UBP, you can get two beers at a time. They'll give you a bucket of ice if you ask. Then you can do that beer-collecting thing every few days and build up however many beers you want on hand. I found they get a little less strict with the one-drink thing as the cruise goes on, or if they're really busy. Or if you slip them a few bucks. The bartenders know how awkward many of the rules are.

I went on my first cruise on Sky last week of October and had a balcony. I tried to figure some way to bring beers back to the cabin for relaxing on the balcony and ended up having to make rounds at the casino bar to get enough for the trip to the room. There is nothing quite like having your feet up on your balcony, drinking a cold one (with a few on standby), enjoying the view.

OvaDaTop Posted November 14, 2016 #15 Share Posted November 14, 2016 I know this is a tough concept....but it really works. TIP the server, not the bartender a $20 bill on the first day and ask if he can bring you a bucket of beer. I guarantee you that the buckets will not stop coming and you will be more than stocked for the week. They know what they are doing!!! Money talks. Don't be cheap...take care of the help and they will take care of you.

packman1029 Posted November 14, 2016 #18 Share Posted November 14, 2016 Grolsch is amazing, and with the swing top, perfect for the room. In all my years of cruising I have NEVER had the bartender open the bottle for me, ever.
SNJCruisers Posted November 14, 2016 #19 Share Posted November 14, 2016 It will also be good on Harvest Caye to take off the ship to enjoy poolside, assuming you bring a small collapsible cooler with ice, since more than likely the UBP will not be honored there. the_dylaness Posted November 15, 2016 #22 Share Posted November 15, 2016 You cruise to stay in cabin drinking beer, right? lol :p I don't cruise to stay in my cabin drinking beer, per se, but I do spend a lot of time in my cabin, sometimes drinking. Some go on cruises to see all the FUN shows, do tons of FUN activities, have FUN at the pool, FUN at the bar, etc. I don't need a lot of FUN but I could use a little relaxation hence sometimes just drinking wine and reading a book in my room while waiting on my room service order. To each their own!
zaknzoey Posted November 15, 2016 #23 Share Posted November 15, 2016 :confused:Is there a limit on how many drinks you can get a day on the UBP? No. Just one at a time (not a bucket at a time). I was wondering this too. Can't you then just go to 3 or 4 different bars while on your walk back to your room and order one at each place? Put two in your pockets, carry two?? :p (I know that sounds stupid, but you get the point. It would give OP 4 beers to take back)
