Casino Slots observation

I've only been on a few cruises, but i have noticed that the slots pay very well the first night of the cruise and somewhat tighten up a bit as the cruise goes on. I've noticed this trend on Princess, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean.

I know that the technology exists in Vegas in hotels like Aria to do complete changes of payouts on their slot machines.

Has anyone experiences something similar?

Oh and the slots are much tighter on Royal Caribbean than they are on Princess and Caribbean.

I've done very well with slots on Carnival and Princess but on the Oasis last month I couldn't win but a dollar or so. After losing $100 by day 2, I quit going in the casino except to pass through. Funny thing is I didn't see anyone winning.

So no Royal slots for me, and I'm probably done with them for good.

I've found Princess' slots to be very tight, even on the first night. I've found them to be looser in the past on HAL and X, but I haven't sailed on either for awhile now.

All the machines are networked can be changed at anytime even remotely from the home office.

Machine payouts are a science. There are people with math Doctorates figuring this stuff out to maximise profits.

Basically I can't see any real point to make the machines pay off more on the first day. A cruise ship is a captive audience and there isn't another casino to go too.

I have also noticed that first night pays somewhat "better". Having said that, we used to have fun in the casinos every evening, however, we just don't go there anymore. There hasn't been the win a bit, lose a bit our last few cruises so we stay away. Must admit we miss going:)

I agree with the first night theory and sometimes the last night pays as well.

But the real question is what or who is controlling the payout?

There is no Gambling commissioner as you would have in Vegas or Atlantic City..they can do what they want.

On a recent Princess cruise I did well the first day and a half and then my luck turned.

Much more fun to win than to lose!!

Perhaps word of mouth, to generate excitement- hearing a tablemate or someone talking about their big score the next day. It's long been a rumor that slots near big casino entrances pay more, in order to attract the passers-by. You will often see these machines most crowded in the big casinos. This might be the same philosophy behind the first night theory.

Not me:D. While sailing on the CB back in September I hit a jackpot that caused me to be 10-99'd. My winnings are sitting in the bank and will pay for almost half of my next cruise.....:):):)

I just completed my 1st cruise-and have promptly booked the same itinerary for next year! I'm hooked!

The last night I put AUD$10 into a machine and walked away with AUD$20.25-the last of the big spenders! I really didn't know more than push the button, and somehow managed to double my money! That will pay for my younger cousins' souvenirs for next year!

I do very well on Princess ships. Usually the first night I will win over $1000.00. By the end of the cruise, I am usually up $2500-3000.

Why don't you just stay on ships continuously?

$2500-3000 per 7 or 10 day cruise would be a very good annual income.

They will take your money either way.

My wife and I don't like gambling. We went to Vegas for a friends wedding, he footed food and Hotel and a show. We arrived Friday night, flying a friends airplane he had donated for the trip, gas included RT La and back. We put $.75 in a slot at the airport and lost it. That were the end of our gamblin days. Probably won't be allowed in Vegas no more.

We just got off the Island and, in general, the slots were very tight.

One machine had two big payouts. The rest were awful.

I am not a gamber but enjoy on a cruise or a rare visit to a rsl or club to have a few dollars (on the 1c machines) However I notice that now the casinos on all the ships appear to have removed the machines where you could bet 5c or 7c 9c or 15c etc Now they commence at 25c per button push and this spoils things for me On Carnival Legend last week there was ONE just ONE machine where you could bet less than 25c This means my nightly $3 takes no time at all which is sad:mad:
