Or Broke Down Palace

And you are subject to other countries' laws when you travel or cruise out of the country.

I am a civil lawyer so I can't speak for Criminal but for civil your ticket contract has a forum selection clause where civil cases (slip/fall' date=' breach of contract) must be filed in United States District Court Southern.

I can't argue with a word you wrote. But I maintain feeding them to the Nassau police was a punishment that far exceeded the crime. But again, you're correct.

If you or they think it's excessive, then the snowflakes shouldn't have taken illegal drugs into the freakn' Bahamas. I'm so sorry to hear the Bahamian police didn't offer them a safe space.

But they didn't take illegal drugs into the Bahamas, they smoked a joint in International waters.

What would happen if the next port of call was Seattle where pot is legal?

Who ever has to do all the paper work on this is not going to be very happy.

If this is true, it is well over blown.

Those questions were already explained in this thread.

There hasn't been an explanation posted yet.

So we have arrived in FLL and we still haven't been able to find anything out! Our cabin steward isn't talking and I think he is actually the one who is cleaning that cabin so we probably won't ever find out. The guard is STILL sitting there... maybe they will be the last to disembark?

All you guys out there that read everything associated with cruises - please - post here if you see anything! We're traveling with a one-year-old so we aren't going to be able to check back on here very often today! Thanks!!!!

My point is they were in international waters...at sea...when the cabin attendant found their dangerous contraband, but were delivered the following day to a foreign country in which they committed no crime. I understand foreign countries have different laws. I understand they were stupid for bringing a small amount of a pot with them on a weekend cruise. What I don't understand is why Royal had to go the route they did...rather than escort them off the ship and send them on their way, they chose to call in police from a country that had no interest and no gripe with them.

Aside from everything Aquahound already told you about the legal matters I wholeheartly agree with how RCI handled the Situation.

When it happened, as you said they were on a ship in international Waters and they agreed to RCI´s T&C´s By signing the cruise contract and this is how RCI handles the Situation. It doesn´t matter if they are good Kids otherwise or not.

If the Country had no interest and no gripe with them, why did the called Police of this Country put them in front of a judge and why were they fined and asked to leave the Country ASAP? All this from a Country that had no interest and no gripe with them?

I think your opinion is a bit rose colored because you know the Kids and try to defend them and with this can´t see the rational and Facts about what happened.

Fortunately we live in the USA.

Well but unfortunately the Kids Chose to leave the US with the Joint and thus made themselves available to other countries laws. The ship is not US territory.

OK, never mind. The use of the word "drugs" when speaking about a joint reflects a mindset that shows we will have to agree to disagree.

I´m not quite sure you are opposed to the use of the word drug? It is a matter of fact that it is a drug. If it´s a legal or illegal drug is another matter, the fact it´s a drug still remains.

AFAIK it´s not even legal all around the US.

Travel the world and you will Experience how Things are classified very differently around the world.

Take some OTC medicine like cough medicine or Melatonin into the UAE and you will face several years in jail. This could even happen to you if you don´t bring in the actual meds, but will be suspected of using it and taken to a blood test verifying you used it before.

Over here you can buy a bread roll with poppy seeds in every bakery. Bringing it into the UAE send you to jail.

There´s a whole workd outside the US and you Need to think what happens if you cross the border.

I had to read this twice - just came across it. I have friends on that sailing and about an hour after eating the buffet the daughter (mid 20s) was sick like never before and was medical quarantine... her mom said she was perfectly fine in days and weeks leading to embarkation. I had wondered if it was a guard for her but they are aft balcony.

On board arrest - Australia recently had 2 young Canadian girls smuggle in 90kgs of cocaine with street value of $30M as guest on a cruise ship that arrived into Sydney....biggest smuggling bust ever! Currently awaiting sentencing but highly likely it will be life in prison.

Not sure how that is relevant to being subject to the laws of foreign countries, regardless of citizenship.

Holy crap, cocaine is expensive there! That's about $333,333 ($243,465 US) a key.

Can I put a twist on this? What about Medical Marijuana? What if they were card carrying legally approved from their state?

I know they where out of their state, which I assume they still would be on the illegal side of the fence.

Would the punishment be less harsh in this case?

There were electronic signs at Port Canaveral, specifically mentioning no marijuana allowed at any time, regardless of use. We saw a few people taken aside for hand searches.
