just got back from the 10-day sailing. don't know if a thread was posted about 2 (yes, 2) medvac's within 4 days on this ship. The 1st happened onboard during Half Moon Cay. A helicopter had to fly in from FL to Half Moon and take the seriously injured passenger to Nassau -some 80- miles away. Sail away time was delayed about an hr. Then 2 days later it happened again. no details were given, but someone was choppered off the island.

then we had to delay slightly from Aruba (or Bonaire) as we awaited medical supplies to be flown in. Too much commotion for me. never ever got an update on the poor passengers.

I was also on this cruise. There were a lot of rumours going around about the HMC injury. I don't understand why they had to wait for a Coast Guard helicopter to come all the way from Florida. You would think that the Bahamas would have one which could have arrived much quicker. The patient was taken to a Bahamas hospital rather than back to Florida. Also, I heard there was at least one death, hopefully of natural causes.

oh, i didn't know someone died. I must say there were a ton of older people on this cruise ship. I felt like i was part of a nursing home excursion. And I am glad these folks are up for taking cruises but there were a lot of wheel chairs, scooters and walkers around ship. It definitely is the last time we sail with HAL.

How compassionate. Yes, Carnival would probably be a better fit for you, since you are young, able bodied and healthy. Sorry that your cruise did not live up to your expectations. Perhaps you did not research the demographics of cruise ships prior to booking.

you are dead wrong. I'm in my 60's. I cared for my mother with Parkinson's that eventually killed her. My father is in his 90's with dementia. Still, i wouldn't take them on a cruise. I saw people fall on this ship. What a dangerous situation if they had fractured something. How dare you make assumptions about me.

Wow .... I hope you can stay young forever.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the cruise because of the age of the passengers. With a little bit of research or a decent travel agent, you would have immediately known that HAL may not be suitable for you. However, I hate to break this to you, but older people, some with physical disabilities, can even be found on Carnival, Disney, or the monster-of-the-seas ships. That generation has saved their hard-earned money and is determined to enjoy it before they have to leave for the cruise ship in the sky.

My first HAL cruise was at 40 and I was the youngster on that ship. 20 years later and thankfully still being able-bodied, I still feel like a youngster on HAL. I'm not going to deny that cruising with older people can sometimes requires a little bit of patience but I treat them the way I would want other people to treat my mother who loves to cruise but has slowed down quite a bit. I have cruised on ships with a younger clientele but have found that HAL positives by far outweigh its negatives. I prefer being stuck behind a slow walking oldster and almost losing my toes to a scooter than to obnoxious drunks, children running amok while their parents ignore them, and stupid tricks by young people trying to walk on balcony rails.

In any event, with a little research everyone can find a cruise line or a specific ship that will cater to their idea of great cruisers. Happy sailing.

It's unfortunate that serious accidents happen. Travellers are prime candidates for accidents. Many are excited to be visiting new areas and eager to try out new adventures, some which are more dangerous than others. Twisted ankles and broken bones are common as travellers trip while not watching where they are going.

I remember our first visit to Key West the HOHO driver was clear to tell us to watch out for passengers driving the motorized scooters as they have accidents all the time.

I was in the process of typing my "ridiculous" response before the OP had posted her age. That was not the main point of my response. You can disagree with a response without calling ridiculous.

We're in our 60's, but this is exactly why we always buy cruise insurance. You never know when an accident might happen. But one thing is for sure, those helicopter rides and private flights to get you back home are not cheap. I've heard north of $25,000 is not an unheard of transportation bill, not counting medical costs.

I'm getting scared. DH and I are 63 and 48. I saw a post the other day from a cruiser who didn't like BB King Band's "Hard Rock" and was lamenting the lack of big band swing music. Like Glenn Miller???? What the heck?

We were on the K'dam last July and the BB King Lounge was packed every night and people were on the dance floor having a great time. But the chances of the R & B bands that perform in that venue playing "big band" music from the 40's may be pretty slim. Better chances are for hearing songs from the 50's through the 70's, but I could be wrong.

My husband and I are 68 and 69 years young. We love Big Band Music. We also love Bruno Mars and Adele. I have a crush on Alicia Keyes and adore her music. I don't think age has anything to do with it. I know people in their 40's who are so dull! Don't judge us by our grey hair, or in some cases, by the walkers and scooters. Why does thread have to be about age? Cruising is for everyone and all tastes, so let's enjoy ourselves!

Typically, there are more persons in wheelchairs, scooters or otherwise less mobile when the itinerary is from FLL to FLL, or from San Diego-San Diego or Seattle to Seattle.

You tend to see younger crowds in Europe for example, or if the cruise starts in one port and finishes in another country.

People who are mobility challenged hate to travel to the ship.

So that can help you choose your next voyage.

We sailed on Nieuw Amsterdam in October. BB Kings was packed every night. Plenty of people dancing in the various venues. Food was great. Casino was full every night. We're in our 60's and travel with friends also in their 60's. We don't begrudge anyone of any age traveling as they please. We do are own thing, on our own schedule, and try not let others affect our enjoyment. We hope to be able to cruise for many years to come.

Just off this cruise and I need to report that the lady that was helicoptered off in Half Moon Cay was able to rejoin the ship a few days later (according to her husband who I met and also the Captain who mentioned it in during his presentation).
