Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 21, 2017 Author #426 Share Posted January 21, 2017 And as we were recovering the passengers from the last tender we saw a boat approaching at high speed Just before sunset we made a turn to head West I moved quickly forward to the red viewing point for a close encounter with the Insignia This may be the closest we get to an Oceania cruise ship Goodbye Belize ! chamima Posted January 21, 2017 #427 Share Posted January 21, 2017 (edited) I think the Insignia is one of the 7 Renaissance ships. The Pacific Princess is the last one of these that Princess still owns. Our favorite ship!!! (They sold the Ocean and Royal several years ago.) Our favorite ship!!! (They sold the Ocean and Royal several years ago.) Yes. Insignia caught fire (engine room) at the dock in St Lucia in Dec 2014. 3 crew were killed and she was out of service until Feb 2015 when she headed to Singapore and started her world cruise in March 2015. Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 21, 2017 Author #433 Share Posted January 21, 2017 (edited) Next up was the clam chowder followed by the main course . This wasn't the best version of the CS . That was on the Regal and it wasn't the best version on the CB either . But our server Vladimar was great . He is from Ukraine as were a number of the workers on the CB . He also took this photo of us and his reflection . For dessert we went International with me having the Sachertorte from Austria While Pat had the Pavlova . The origin of it is disputed by New Zealand and Australia . And in this article , the inventors may have been British or gulp , American ! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/food/article-3270176/Pavlova-NOT-Australian-New-Zealand-Researchers-debunk-Antipodean-origins-beloved-dessert.html I had wanted to practice my failing Russian skills with Vladimir , but I held my tongue . But Pat couldn't resist scribbling Thank you in Cyrillic , to which he wrote You're welcome with a meme . Duck Creek Posted January 22, 2017 #438 Share Posted January 22, 2017 Hi Scubacruiser As an Aussie I have to ask, was the pavlova sitting on a biscuit type base or was the meringue just a bit brown??? Just looks a bit different to what aussies and kiwis would do While Pat had the Pavlova . The origin of it is disputed by New Zealand and Australia . And in this article , the inventors may have been British or gulp , American ! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/food/article-3270176/Pavlova-NOT-Australian-New-Zealand-Researchers-debunk-Antipodean-origins-beloved-dessert.html
Rare MicCanberra Posted January 22, 2017 #439 Share Posted January 22, 2017 I don't care who invented it, when done correctly it is a very nice dessert. Unfortunately, cruise ships do not always do it justice although that version doesn't look too bad.

It's a graham cracker/biscuit type crust/base I have had this a few times on Princess. I hate meringue, if it ever had meringue I would never eat it. I know what you are talking about but I have not noticed it ever called Pavlova. Edited January 22, 2017 by Colo Cruiser

And the Pav pictured here , again from the Regal , might be like the oldest found recipe for a Strawberry Pavlova . But it may be disqualified because of the strawberry cream or the chocolate drizzle . And while Pat's favorite Pav was found in Ireland , my oldest favorite dessert is a Key Lime pie . But don't get me started on a proper Key Lime pie because it is near and dear to my heart ( and my stomach ) :D

Might pass as a 'mini' pavlova. Love your review and all your pictures. It takes me to places that I have never been but can dream about! I will pass on that meringue dressed as a mini pav. This is what they normally serve as Pav on many ships and without the soft filling, it just doesn't cut it. I would prefer the one with the biscuit crust as at least that has the soft filling.
