i can only speak from my own experiences and i pretty much only book balconies at this point in my life (8C).

the best rate i've booked (cost of room, port fees and taxes only) can range from $111 per person/per day (4 people in a room booking) to $181 per person/per day (2 people in a room booking).

from there i just run my math, "is it worth it for this trip," and make a decision.

there are so many ways to go on vacation and cruises continue to be some of the best values in the market.

the season you cruise in, itinerary, ship and number of ports all derive the price and value of a cruise. and the number of people in your room will always drive down per person pricing.

if you want to be in a specific place on a certain date, book what you can afford.

as for buying trip insurance through Carnival, there are MANY better options elsewhere with MUCH better coverage. it all depends what you need/want in your insurance strategy.

most importantly, enjoy your cruise and vacations. that's what this web forum is all about, right?

From reading this thread, I feel like I may have paid too much. We booked directly with CCL and although I have booked my last three NCL cruises with a TA and received great discounts, I cannot give this booking to a TA since I'm very worried about loosing my

Havana Cabana on Deck 5.

Sailing Carnival Vista on November 12, 2017

6 Day Western Caribbean (Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios)

Booked 8E Balcony on Lido Deck under Early Saver Rate

Three Passengers

Cruise Rate - $1447.00

Taxes, Fees, Port Charges - $358.59

Total Cost - $1805.59

Received $50 OBC at time of booking

Trip was booked in April, 2016

I feel pretty good about the rate we got when we booked. I've been checking rates pretty closely since then and they've done nothing but increase! Current cruise only rate is $1947 (an increase of $500 since we booked).

I redid below to add "suite" after the Havana Cabana since I booked a suite not the Havana cabana lanai, which I think is really the same just a little bigger layout inside the cabin.

Carnival prices just like the airlines. They use demand based pricing which factors for days till sailing date.

A company this large has to use an algorithm to maximize its revenue and profits.

Example, a cruise I booked on Vista on Nov 27 2016 for Nov 4 2017 sailing. The price has gone down $2 since my booking.

Another example; I booked on Dec 15 2017 for July 14 2018 sailing and the price has decreased $30 and we picked up $100 OBC.

What sells quickly, rises in price quickly (demand overpowering supply). What sells slowly gets discounted quickly (so that prices can rise again once excess supply is depleted), run rate to balance the rooms left to sell and maximize profits per fare paying customer.

There's a cost of sailing a ship. Once the base costs are covered then profit maximization takes effect.

Carnival even runs models on past guest on-board expenditures. They know very well how much they'll make on any sailing.

Unfortunately, there are no obc or price drops once you book a flight. At least with cruises you can get the lower rate if the price drops.

We got extremely lucky and got a Premier casino invite last year that included the Vista for 10 days in Europe....My offer included a Free Ocean view and $1,000 cash, my wife got $500 cash and MIL got $400

I called to get pricing and was able to Upgrade to a Grand Suite for only $1,777 total for the 3 of us 😜 If u take into account the $1,900 cash we got the cruise itself was free

And the Good Luck continued....MIL Won over $2,400

On the slots. Plus the Turkey port was canceled pre cruise and we had purchased Nationwide Cruise Ins and they have a add on cruise only benefit where if a port is canceled pre cruise you get the benefit ....in our case we had purchased the middle plan so my wife and myself both received checks for $750 each after we got back from the cruise 😃

So all in all besides this Europe cruise being our Favorite cruise it wound up

Being totally free and we were basically paid big on

Top of it 😝😜😜💰💰💰💰......WE LOVED THE VISTA

Honestly, I wouldn't feel like I got too bad of a deal paying current prices to cruise on Carnival's (current) newest ship. But happy to have got booked when we did! I had the "good timing fairies" on my side back then!

There is a thread about Vista prices jumping that was started here a few weeks after js booked. I have not noticed any price drops for Vista. So, even if they paid more, it's not as much as they may have paid if they waited.
