Am I going to be out of place on Celebrity?

My wife and I are booked for the May 5th Equinox sailing and I still find myself concerned for a few reasons listed below.

1. We are both 40

2. I could care less what others wear to dinner

3. I could care less with which hands you use for your knife and fork, or which way the tines of your fork are pointing.

Reading these things, along with others comments, here on CC scare the crap out of me and make me wonder if we made the right choice in Celebrity.

Not at all. My wife and I are both in our late 30s, and are looking forward to our 3rd Celebrity cruise this May. On the whole, we've met nothing but pleasant people of all ages and demographics on our cruises (both on Celebrity and other cruise lines). Though the staff and ships on X keeps us coming back as our favorite.

The critics on Cruise Critic are the minority of what you will see on the ships. Don't be discouraged. Especially if you're laid back in your approach to cruising and don't set unrealistic expectations, you'll have a great time! Enjoy!

You will be fine and I assure you both will enjoy it. That ship and itinerary will have a diverse age spread and not so many elites and above. If you were on NE, Pacific Coastal, Transcanal or any other trans sailing I would provide caveats. However, we fit in your category and enjoy X a great deal.

My wife and I first sailed Celebrity in our early 30's and had a fabulous time. We've enjoyed the folks we have met on board and the ambience. Neither of us is pretentious, and being lesbians, tend not be fancy dressers (more casual and business casual). We're now in our mid-fifties and we're also sailing on the May 5 Equinox. We have always enjoyed the good cocktails, decent meals, and very friendly staff. It is a lovely, relaxing cruise line.

The other 95% of the passengers that don't post on here don't care what you wear to dinner either.;)

You will be fine, and I'm sure you'll have a great time. There's a slice of society that live to find faults in everything. They tend to not hang out where people are having fun so you probably wont even notice them on your cruise.

Although you won't be using a walker, dining in the MDR placing your false teeth next to your plate and then eating with your fingers at the early seating so you can be in bed at your normal 8PM bedtime, you probably will be OK.

On my last cruise, I'd swear I saw a youngster....about 70 years old in the casino at 8:15PM......I tell you, that celebrity thrust towards the youngin's is starting to work.

OP...we are well into our 60's and agree with your "I could care less..." 2 and 3. We have always enjoyed all of our Celebrity Cruises. Looking forward to the future ones. Your Cruise is what you make it.

Bradley K and others. We are also on the May 5, 2017 ten day Equinox cruise. Linda and I have been privileged to sail on multiple ships over several different cruise lines over the years. We have enjoyed each cruise very much and have another cruise planned for September of this year. Each cruise has had its ups and downs, but never once have we regretted taking the cruise.

We have never seen a more active roll call than the one for this voyage. That alone should tell you what a great time and group of people you are sharing the Equinox with. You will enjoy the experience on-board Equinox! Happy Cruising! Bob and Linda

We also don't care about which cabin you are in, which class you are, or what you are wearing to dinner. We have made great friends on Celebrity ships and only once have encountered people who have been mean and snobby to the crew and to us. We should have changed tables but didn't. After that we have chosen select dining and always hope to meet people to dine with. So far we have. You will love Celebrity. The crew is wonderful and you are truly treated like a celebrity which in real life I am not!

We are both in our 30's and haven't cruised any other cruise line except Celebrity. Love it and probably don't see ourselves cruising any others.

I think you mean you couldn't care less what others are wearing or doing, so you will be fine as their comments won't matter in the slightest ;). Go and enjoy what you like and forget everyone else. You'll meet some wonderful people - honestly :). Btw, you won't be the youngest - our kids have been cruising for years and they are definitely much younger than you (young teens) :D.

If you don't care what anybody thinks, then why are you concerned with whether you will fit in or not?

Last time I checked, youngish unkempt ill-mannered people are not thrown off the ship.

That is not what I wrote. I do care if I will fit in with the clientele.

What I wrote was that I do not care what other do. Nor am I ill mannered or unkempt. But you definitely seem to be.

You'll be fine and have a great time. Ignore the grumpy formal posters who have nothing better to do than complain about youth. Literally, hit your ignore button on by their name. You'll enjoy CC much more.

We're early 50's, a little older than you. We've cruised Celebrity once, and had a great time. No one gave a rat's @$$ how we dressed for dinner. The fork thing is a European joke; most Europeans keep their fork in the non-dominant (usually left) hand and don't do the quaint American thing of switching hands. If you live in Europe for awhile, you'll adopt their method for the rest of your life.

Hey Bib and Linda!!! I am really looking forward to meeting you both. Are you going to the precruise drinks and dinner on the 4th?

I'm in my mid-30's and DH is 40 and we loved our Celebrity Equinox cruise so much last March that we booked another one for next March! We did a different itinerary that you will have (actually, your cruise is closer to what we'll do next year with the ABC islands!), but I wrote a very detailed review of our Equinox cruise which may help give you an idea of what to expect. The link is in my signature below if you want to take a look :) Have a wonderful cruise and I hope you enjoy every minute of it!!
