Latitudes Priority Checkin....how does it work

There is a separate line for latitudes check in. For the lower levels the queue is often as long as for the standard check in, so the benefit is limited.

You still have to wait for your boarding number to be called to embark. In some ports, you may get a lower boarding number, if they are given out when you actually check in. In my experience, boarding numbers are given when you arrive, so priority check in doesn't speed up boarding.

Under the new latitudes levels announced today there is priority embarkation for some levels, which should be different. It does mean that those people left with just priority check in will be those who don't benefit as much anyway, due to the number of people who have it and the resulting queues.

They have boarded by latitudes tier level at several ports we sailed out of recently including Boston, Port Canaveral, Seattle. They cycle through the latitude tiers before starting with the general boarding group numbers.

Yes, apparently this is the case in some ports.

Now that priority embarkation will be a stated benefit for platinum and above, we will have to see how this affects things.

It's possible that some ports may continue to board by all latitudes levels, but we may find that they restrict it to just those who should get the benefit.

I would suggest that bronze to gold levels turn up expecting just priority check in and see anything else as a bonus should it happen.

For us priority Latitudes boarding has meant we get to stand in line with others who have sailed NCL before. Last May boarding the Gem our first time friends were such a minority that they were checked in before us platinums.

I wonder if the terminal queues will drill down to Ambassador and Platinum Plus. Currently it is often: general (new to NCL), latitudes (at least one prior NCL cruise, and Platinum, suites and accessible. Occasionally I see separate queue for Silver and Gold. Question is will they add separate Platinum Plus and Amabassador lines, or combine with Platinum. I'm sure a lot of variables are considered when designing the check-in layout.

I try to arrive at the terminal for check-in close to when I expect boarding will begin. So if they change the order in which passengers are assigned to board, my lot will be improved.

We boarded in Tampa and didn't see any special check in line for latitudes. But we did get a boarding group number with 'latitudes' printed on it so the lower groups may be reserved for latitudes. We were bronze and got group 2... on about 15 minutes after boarding started so was pleasantly surprised.

How can we estimate when boarding will begin?

We are on Norwegian Bliss, sailing from Seattle on July 28th.

Probably between 11:30 A.M. and Noon. All depends on how long it takes to clear the ship from the previous cruise and whether or not any Coast Guard or Us Public Health inspections are taking place.

Priority boarding will start around 11:00. General boarding 11:15-11:30.

The Garden Cafe Buffet and The Local Grill will be open for lunch at 11:30. Taste/Savor main dining rooms open at noon along with margaritavile (extra charge).

Last time in NY and Miami, Platinum and above were kind of called first, in NY I think they called Casino guests before.  Not sure why since the casino isn't open in port.  The port workers handle multiple lines as contractors and I get the feeling they are not always really sure particularly in the boarding process.  Last time in Miami we were given crazy high boarding number upon entering the waiting area after checking in, when they called Platinum and above we were able to walk right on though.  We like to go to O'Sheehan's sit down and have lunch and a drink or two.  With any luck, it will turn out to be your muster station!

I have met Platinum passengers who were boarding with Haven guests about one year ago. (Miami) They were waiting in the same area as Haven when I struck up a conversation.  They bragged a little about how they spent about 1/4 the money for a balcony but they were boarding just as early as Haven.

I was on the Getaway last week.  I'm a silver member and received boarding group 20, so it's apparently hit or miss.  The only separate lines I've seen at check in are for Platinum and up.
