Dogs on Regal 2/19-26???

I have been traveling with my service animal for years and have yet to have anyone challenge my reasons. I fear being touched, and my service animal is there to ward off anyone trying to touch me. We seem to be able to walk around anywhere we want without anyone approaching me. Not sure why, but I am not complaining.

I wonder if it is just princess. When we were on HAL we met a lovely couple and she had a service dog. She said the amount of paperwork they had to fill out to get the dog on was insane. She said she had to specifically call out what the dog helped her with how he warned her or others. She suffered from seizures and the dog could tell when one was coming on and alert her. Also she was deathly allergic to some food items and the dog could sniff out if the item was in the food she would eat...didn't elaborate on what she was allergic to. But the dog had a little vest and became the mascot of the ship. People were respectful and asked if they could pet...she would give a command and his demeanor would change and then she would say ok. It wore a vest too...

Saw the poodles a couple of years ago. The lady didn't speak English but many people asked to have their picture taken with the dogs. They were treating her and the dogs like a celebrity. She would leave them tied to a chair while she went for lunch. They were like a companion dog.

I am very allergic to anything with fur on my last flight I was able change seats so I didn't have an asthma attack. It is sad that folks abuse a system created to help those who need help.

Exactly! We were on the Crown awhile ago & there were about 9 animals onboard. Clearly about half were not service dogs. Each had a little "bathroom area" with the dogs name on them all over the Promenade deck. We ended up not walking it like we usually do because we didn't want to keep passing "toilets". The funny part of the whole thing that there were about 3 blind people & they didn't have dogs, just canes!

Oh lord, here comes the 'Service Dog' terminated equine again..

But yes, the prior poster was probably right. Some over entitled person (who also can't be bothered to take her pet to the relief area) paid to have his/her beloved pets tagged as service/therapy dogs (and if one peed like that, they were not trained, period), and without a lot of hassle the ship cannot deny boarding from a US port. They could disembark her for damaging the ship (sounds like that could have happened if no one saw her after) which if they did would have been a whole lot of fun for her given possible quarantine protocols).

Until the rules for service/therapy animals are codified to require actual training, etc, this will continue to happen.

Absolutely, and if someone can get their physician/therapist to list their boa constrictor or pet rat as a needed therapy animal due to PTSD, you might see them onboard too!

I was on the 2/19 cruise also. One night the lady brought one of her two dressed up dogs in the casino. She sat down to play baccarat. The dog sat on the chair next to her while she played.

The next day she had both the dogs dressed up on the running/walking track. She had them tied up while she went onto the basketball court for Zumba.

It's so crazy that Princess allows this... Princess may not have a choice, but what if every passenger decides to bring there dogs on a cruise?

Yeesh, if Princess allows this to continue I am going to bring my "therapy" cat with me on my next cruise. His litter box will look so nice on my balcony. Surely my neighbors will be thrilled.

If my darling spoiled rotten feline didn't hate travel so much, I would bring him along. He really does not enjoy car rides, so I cannot imagine how he would manage a flight to the cruise port, let alone a limo ride to the pier, etc. It is far less stress for him to remain in his home, with a cat nanny while we travel, but he really does provide outstanding companionship and stress management for me when I am home. On a cruise I just have to rely upon my husband for those things..........:D but I really miss my cat.

Wonder if I could bring "Elvis" from the Miami Vice series along as a therapy animal. He will protect me from the other therapy animals on board. Look him up as he stayed on Crocketts boat.

I think Elvis would snap up the opportunity to protect you ...

I would probably need him if I saw what others are describing. No problems saying something to the front desk. Pictures also help. But he would be a way for me to keep my sanity.

  • 3 months later...
On our last RCI cruise a lady in a wheelchair had a small dog in her lap feeding it from the table in the MDR. That should have never been acceptable. They take advantage of the fact that nobody is going to confront them.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

While she shouldn't have been feeding him in the MDR, dogs do a lot for people in wheelchairs, they are often trained to pick things up and jump into their owners lap to return the item.
