realnurse2 Posted March 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Does anyone know the recent cost of a taxi from Ft Lauderdale airport to the cruise port as compared to the HAL transfer cost?Which is the best in your opinion? Thanks!
PageTurner Posted March 7, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Taxi from FLL to Cruise Port is about a 10 minute ride. Unsure of fare.
CruiserBruce Posted March 7, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Last time I heard, HAL's price was about $23 per person. Taxi is about $15 for the taxi, before tip. And taxi is far more convenient- no waiting for the bus to fill up. Lots of info on the Florida Departures Board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
Krazy Kruizers Posted March 7, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Definitely take a taxi. There are plenty of them both at the airport and at the pier. And cheaper.
mame42 Posted March 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Do NOT take the HAL transfer; it is a long trek to the bus hauling luggage, and one must often wait quite a while with no place to sit for the bus to move into place in the bus queue for pick up. Harry1954 Posted March 7, 2017 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2017 We have used taxi many times and it will always be cheaper that HAL. This is one of the few places where it is a no brainer to use taxi. Typically we pay 20-25, including tip, depending on traffic. harry

InFLL always a taxi from port to/from airport and hotels in port area particuularly if three are two of you. Cost is lower than buying two HAL traansfers, it is s much more convenient. Airport is so near, you can see it from Port Everglades and hotels nearby.
NukeTim Posted March 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Only problem with a taxi going TO the port is that if it's a weekend and there are 8 ships in port, even though the distance to the port may be short the wait time in a taxi could be long - as the meter is ticking. Usually we take the transfer to the port from the cruise line - it was $19pp a month ago and nice thing is that they take the luggage from you at the airport and transport it to the port on a truck. On the way back we took a cab and it was $20 for the two of us (actual fare was about $15).

Lauderdale (not for a cruise unfortunately). Our flight arrived on a Friday night at around 8:00pm. The traffic was horrible and there was absolutely no road traffic control staff anywhere. Friends picked us up and it took roughly 30 minutes to get out of the airport and on the road to our hotel. I thought about how loud the taxi meter would sound if we were loaded in heading for Port Everglades hotels.
just_cruising_along Posted March 7, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Just was there, and would highly recommend taking a taxi. The trip is very quick and around $15 plus tip. Even with a lot of ships in port, the taxi will be quick, the ride is less than 10 minutes. Have a great cruise.
easyboy Posted March 8, 2017 #11 Share Posted March 8, 2017 We always take an Uber. Just like a taxi, it takes off after you board, unlike a bus.
sppunk Posted March 9, 2017 #12 Share Posted March 9, 2017 Uber costs like $9.40. I avoid fll taxis like the plague.
Rare POA1 Posted March 9, 2017 #13 Share Posted March 9, 2017 It's probably around $12-15 for a cab.
msteries Posted March 10, 2017 #14 Share Posted March 10, 2017 I always take a taxi unless my flight is scheduled to land after 10:30pm. Unless things have changed, in the late hours a nice HAL person will greet you and help you with your luggage, and mini bus comes in less that 15-20 minutes. As a solo traveller, I feel more comfortable doing it that way.
pumpkinpatch4 Posted March 18, 2017 #15 Share Posted March 18, 2017 Uber cost our family of 4 (so an XL vehicle) about $12. We only had to wait 3 minutes after requesting it on my phone. SOOOO easy. I can't imagine why everyone doesn't use Uber.

pumpkinpatch4 Posted March 18, 2017 #17 Share Posted March 18, 2017 No extra charge for luggage and you don't have to tip. So the price you are quoted is the price you pay, no matter how many traffic delays!

Rare Hlitner Posted March 19, 2017 #22 Share Posted March 19, 2017 Do NOT take the HAL transfer; it is a long trek to the bus hauling luggage, and one must often wait quite a while with no place to sit for the bus to move into place in the bus queue for pick up. Taxi should be $14-$18 depending on the traffic. And that is for an entire taxi...not per person. And by the way, Uber costs less then $40 from FLL to the Port of Miami....for an entire car....not per person. One wonders why anyone bothers with cruise line transfers.
