$7.95 Room Service Charge

Recommended Posts

I have not read this whole thread, but it doesn't matter anyway. In my opinion if I happened to think the $7.95 charge was too much or whatever, very easy, I just wouldn't call room service to make an order. I personally think it is quite reasonable. It is a choice that I don't mind paying if we want the food delivered to our door.

And yes, the staff who delivers the order should be tipped in line with how large the order was.

rccl will be happy to hear this. I'm sure. Grats are included in the room service charge though.;)

The issue here sense you haven't read the whole post is that they implemented this charge for cruiser already paid in full and for some on a budget wanting it planning on this service daily without notice.

Maybe they should, pay employees a,living wage and include everything in the cost.

lol i agree;p

What's a living wage, and doesn't that vary on where you live?

FWIW, I live in a departure port. I see crew members shopping at the mall most weekends. They seem to have money.

Maybe all of those self centered, greedy, nasty passengers that I keep reading about standing in line at Guest Services are actually there for reasons other than to remove gratuities.

We usually only use room service for breakfast on the balcony. I checked and we can get the "continental" breakfast items with no upcharge (even though we do a cash tip of course) and only pay the $7.95 if we order the "American" items such as eggs, bacon, etc. I figure some mornings we will only want coffee, juice, maybe toast or bagel so there is no upcharge. When we want a fuller breakfast we pay $7.95 for BOTH of us which is a good price I think. We love "free" stuff as much as the next guy (maybe more so) but we can live with this given the price of the cruise which is still a bargain compared to other vacations. Just our perspective; others who use more room service may see it differently.

I certainly am not the person to begrudge anyone who wants to tip anyone for good service. My husband was a house painter and many of his customers have given him 100. more then he asked for his painting service. I love to play in the casino and i think nothing of placing a bet on the roulette wheel. Sometimes that's stupid. I am just saying the service is not free but part of your cruise package. I feel lately the cruise lines have been chipping away at the the cruise experience slowly and surely. And i don't like that. If you want to leave a ten dollar tip for room service that's very generous and not a usual expectation. The room attendants will be waiting by your door to serve you. Also, since they implemented this 7.95 charge they say that grats. are included in the room service charge. I agree with the post above that says they are on vacation and they don't think about an extra gratuity as a big deal. But i do not want people to feel as this is the norm. Its not.

The midnight buffet, The beautiful ice sculptures, The dedicated movie theater with popcorn{free, or included]

The discount coupons we use to get in stateroom with the gifts bags with logo ect. The beautiful artistic food displays worthy of filming and ooh's and aha,s. You would preview the food line first and film it an then you would pass the line and fill your plate. I miss this. I still love cruising. I just miss the old days. I do not use the room service we like to walk to the promenade. So really this change doesn't bother me personally but it is chipping away of the cruise experience again. However i do understand this since the ships are getting bigger and personal room service would be hard for 5,000 people on board this will surely curve the room service . Also i love rccl and always look for a good deal with them so i can cruise a couple times a year . I am talking about the whole cruise industry they all have made these cuts.

We actually had a "midnight buffet" with ice carvings and beautifully displayed food on the Brilliance transatlantic last spring, just a smaller version of the old days. We went in for photos from upper deck, and then back in for eating. This was a special treat we haven't seen on any ship in years.

Just realize that is a totally unique thing so don't expect it on any TA or other sailing for that matter.

Right, which is why I posted it was a special treat we haven't seen on any ship in years. That was my fourth TA, and I've been on 100 cruises. No others last year(16) or this year(3) have had midnight buffet. Brilliance TA did many, many nice events. I was very impressed.

It is the hotel director, F&B director and Cruise Director who can all make things happen. If you have the right combo can also happen other Royal cruises...

wow.... I think there are several of us who could split the Royal saleries and increase the wages for the on-board staff....do away with the new $7.95 charge on room service, lower the price of staterooms, lower the cost of excursions, lower the cost of on-board internet, lower the drink packages, get new IT people to fix the website and still have lots leftover!

So, no free room service for PC?

Hi, Kay

I predict this is going to be a VERY Controversial policy; "$8.00 room service charge" for Pinnacle Club Members. Since they get a Gold Card, they should get ALL the Suite benefits!!!

If not, first MAJOR downgrade of the PC Benefits!!

I doubt that that will be enough money to do even a small portion of what you suggest. Even if you abandoned all your changes that would benefit passengers, splitting executive salary among all staff would in most any company add only modestly to staffs' effective income. There are just too few executive salaries and too many staff people for it to amount to much. In my company, we'd be able to get a couple of dinners out of it.

Interesting thought, let´s have a closer look at it.

So all of the together make $23,263,001. Let´s not take into account that 47.68% of this amount is not actually paid salary, but stock Awards that might or might not get them this amount in the end.

So we have to split up Little over $23 millions.

There are 60.000 shipboard and 6.000 shoreside employees. As I understand it you want to get rid of a number of the shoreside employees, so to make Things easier I just take the shipboard employees into account.

So your list of savings is quite extensive. You can tweak the following percentages to your liking and shift Money from one Point to the next.

I Chose to put 50% of the amount towards the hard working crew onboard and the other 50% to lower all the passenger cost you listed. Oh yeah and I just skipped your lots leftovers and spent the entire amount.

Every shipboard employee would get a whooping $193.86 more per year.

The Overall savings per passenger would be $2.02, to lower stateroom Price, Internet, Excursions, Room Service Charge, Internet and whatever else you wanted to reduce cost on.

Well my Suggestion is to just fire the executives, scrap the salary increase of the shipboard employees and get our cruise fares lowered By $4.04. We´d still have to pay all those add ons including the $7.95 room Service Charge and of Course the Company would have no one to sign contracts and lead operations.

Are Folks really this blindfolded about the reality?

Regularly there is a difference of opinion between loyal royals , who are very often Pinnacle Club Members and generally defend all RC moves and those who are not such frequent cruisers (or posters on CC) . Here is an issue where both sides will be united in being against this move.

I'm betting there are a whole bunch of employees who would be very happy with an increase of $193.86 more per year or even half of that amount .

Your analysis is just fine . No lowering their pay wouldn't make any difference to us, the consumer . I guess many believe that America's top exec's are overpaid .
