KPfromCT Posted April 11, 2017 #27 Share Posted April 11, 2017 We just ask to keep our ice bucket and collapsible cooler full. One robe. Towel animals each night. Always give them a $20 when we meet them, and always have gotten what we requested. If the great service continues, they get another $20-40 on the last morning. Never had a BAD room steward. Always chat with us in the hallway, address us by name. 74 more days!!!!:')
HawkIVette Posted April 11, 2017 #28 Share Posted April 11, 2017 I feel we are pretty easy. Ice filled 2 x a day (since they stopped doing that regularly, and we bring our own Coke). That's it. No "Run down to the kitchen and get me a little chocolate for my pillow like you used to do". No "I need a fluffy white robe so I can run around on the Lido deck and look like a fool". No "Please turn my bed down for me as I can't do that for myself because I am special". Oh and far as tips, I leave or give them a $5 bill for the Ice request first day, and give another $20 for normal service and $40 for exceptional service last day of cruise, on top of the Auto Tips. I think the room stewards are the hardest working employees on the ship. They deserve better treatment from management and passengers.
cb at sea Posted April 11, 2017 #29 Share Posted April 11, 2017 Have NEVER needed to bribe them for towels or ice....we tip additionally, if warranted, at the END of the cruise, as is customary when cruising.
Nettiejeanne Posted April 11, 2017 #30 Share Posted April 11, 2017 Ice bucket kept filled and service twice a day. It's always been done for us, even though this year, in January, we were offered Morning service OR Evening....I just said both and it wasn't a problem. Drazil65 Posted April 11, 2017 #31 Share Posted April 11, 2017 $20 extra the first day, 2 extra pillows, extra towels and ice in our cooler when needed, then another $20 on last day. If we are in a suite then double the last day tip as cabin and bathroom (plus tub and some other extras) are larger and takes more time. Never had to ask again for any of these items. bakersdozen12 Posted April 12, 2017 #32 Share Posted April 12, 2017 I ask for extra pillows, blankets, and for ice everyday. And they always happily provide. I do not give them money in the beginning because in my opinion that would be a bribe. I do, however, tip them generously at the end of the cruise. Have NEVER needed to bribe them for towels or ice....we tip additionally, if warranted, at the END of the cruise, as is customary when cruising. I'm glad at least one person agrees with me about the bribing. Sorry, but I don't feel like I should have to bribe the stewards for good service. It's their job. And if they do it well, then by all means they more than deserve a nice, extra tip at the end. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
KevnSue Posted April 12, 2017 #33 Share Posted April 12, 2017 These collapsable coolers y'all speak of: is this on the list of "recommended things to bring" or is it something provided by Carnival?
Woodfaerie Posted April 12, 2017 #34 Share Posted April 12, 2017 I buy a card at the Dollar Store, we all sign it and put a $20 in it. It goes to our room steward on day 1, we ask for daily ice and robes for all.

gardn198 Posted April 12, 2017 #37 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Just ice... and if I don't have room for a fan, I will request one of those! We roasted at night the last few cruises. Oh no! Is this a common problem? I can't sleep at all if I'm hot.:o
GUT2407 Posted April 12, 2017 #38 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Curious to hear what people have asked for. In the past it was extra pillows and keep the ice filled in the PM. And always handing a $20.00 bill upon meeting. I guess any excuse to give them an early bribe.
GUT2407 Posted April 12, 2017 #39 Share Posted April 12, 2017 For those that do the pre-tip on first day do you find you get better service for the week? We always tip extra on the next to last night of cruise. Considering splitting it 20/20 instead of typical 40 at end? Any comparison would be appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using Forums I've always had great service without bribing them.
caddykid12 Posted April 12, 2017 #40 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Hand them 10$ p.p. (usually 2 or 3) 1st day. Introduce ourselves. Love towel animals. Make sure they can turn down room 2x a day. It seems like tipping helps for me cuz someone is usually napping at odd times and out steward always finds a way to turn the room down even if it was 10pm when we went to a show. Always have they worked around our schedule I usually give 20$ half way thru for Amazing work Last cruise we had diamond levels next door and they asked me if we were getting service and towels changed daily and said yes. They said they were not liking his service and only getting 1 turn down after requesting 2. Maybe they didn't tip or just were not friendly? The last night i see my stewards I gave him a 100$ bill. Personally with a hand shake. If i can blow 100 in a casino or on drinks. Sure can give 100+ for the week to a caring generous individual that Is supporting his family back home and will always be smiling no matter how hard his day really is. Best thing is coming back to a clean cabin to sleep and wake up in.
MMastell Posted April 12, 2017 #41 Share Posted April 12, 2017 I am thoroughly amazed at how many people pre-tip for ice and a robe. That's their job and the automatic gratuities cover that. The only time I have pre-tipped in 45 cruises, without a major request, was on Celebrity and I received the worst service of any cruise. I actually had to call the Head Housekeeper. I have pre-tipped when I asked for a lounge chair on our extended, aft balcony, cabin. I have pre-tipped when I had the steward store boxes I had for the group cruise I was hosting. Otherwise I do not. At the end of the cruise it's a different story. If they fulfill my request for ice twice a day and two extra towels each day then they will get extra even though this isn't outside their normal scope of duty. I had a duffel bag that was torn by the airlines. I duct taped it at the pre-cruise hotel and the next day I boarded. Our steward noticed the tear and said he could have it fixed. He did and it was perfect. I won't say how much I tipped him and the ship's upholsterer but it was much, much more than what I paid for the rolling duffel bag. That was about six years ago and we still use the bag. That is going above and beyond their scope of duty. I think you will find you will get the same service if you don't pre-tip. You can pre-tip if it makes you feel better but it is not necessary. For all of the pre-tippers. Try not pre-tipping on your next cruise and see if it makes a difference. Take care, Mike

sgttami Posted April 12, 2017 #45 Share Posted April 12, 2017 I usually just ask to have the robes removed. Last cruise I sailed solo and had 3 robes. Guess they thought I'd be having company...lol They're too heavy for me and take up too much closet space.
salvagegirl Posted April 12, 2017 #46 Share Posted April 12, 2017 We ask for daily ice and a couple of extra towels since they only do one a day service. We tip extra at the end of the cruise and leave any unopen wine or drinks we might have. Have always had good to excellent service.

2Shoes2Go Posted April 12, 2017 #49 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Two extra pillows, if not in closet. One extra box of tissue, if not already in bathroom. No ice needed. That's usually it. We tip in addition to the standard gratuities, on last day. DH gives for an additional two people. Easy math. Of course, additional needs are also tipped individually. We are always certain to personally express our thanks to our steward and assistant. There usually are a couple of email surveys for each cruise. We often mention the very good ones by name. Rare MandyMooToo Posted April 12, 2017 #50 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Just ice... and if I don't have room for a fan, I will request one of those! We roasted at night the last few cruises. And this is a question I had. On another cruise line that we have previously frequented we could email special requests and I always did so a month ahead of time to ask for a fan to be placed in our room. The one time it wasn't there yet I gave the steward $20 and he immediately brought one. This will be our first Carnival cruise and I am wondering if we need to bring on a "box fan" of our own? We like the noise and I need the air, I get hot easily!!
