Majestic Princess

Recommended Posts

Hi OzKiwi and also CheznAndy,

I'll be really interested in your feedback from these cabins. I've booked the 2nd march 2019 Auckland to Sydney (such a long time to wait!) in E425 which from the website I think you are referring to is a similar cabin to the ones that you've both booked (also not obstructed if my research is correct). I'm so excited, first time on Princess and first time in a balcony!!!!!

If either of you have a moment can you look on the plans at the cabin number I've booked and tell me your thoughts, thanks so much :)

The cabin you have booked has no lifeboats or metal structures in front, that area looks down onto the Promenade deck and out to sea. It is also a larger balcony.

It is about two cabins forward from the one we have booked.

Here is link ( a bit old) but it has photos of those cabins views on the Regal (sister ship)

Your cabin will look down on the area that has the chairs on promenade, You can see further aft and forward the cabins are obstructed by lifeboats and machinery

Good choice:D

We have booked a balcony on Royal since it's the Med with lots of ports, and we'll be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. We probably won't use it for long periods of time but it will be nice to pop outside in the mornings, and again in the late afternoons before changing for dinner.

If you've never had a balcony before you'll be surprised at how frequently you venture outside. Room service breakfast without the cost of special balcony breakfast. Every time you sail into a port, and a lot of sailaways. And on sea days you'll soak up the sun, read a book, doze. In the evenings your balcony is just a wonderful personal space. We wouldn't be without one. Enjoy.

Thanks cheznandy, yes it's as I thought, I've got an obstructed pretty much with no obstruction :D

I'd love to hear your report and pics if possible when you've sailed on her?

wishfulone yes I'm really excited first time on a balcony!! Even just to get the fresh air will be amazing. I presume we can we have the door open at night?

We had a balcony on our first Princess cruise and that's when we decided we could do without one most of the time. I find I can't sit in the balcony chairs for very long or I end up with a sore back. I took inflatable cushions with me, they helped a little but not enough. On itineraries with lots of sea days we'd much rather book and inside cabin and spend some of the savings on the Sanctuary where we can relax in comfort. The only thing I miss by doing that is being able to have a balcony dinner.

We usually book a balcony on Celebrity but don't really use it that much, although the chairs are much more comfortable than on Princess. We usually go up to the Sky Lounge during sailaways on Solstice. Awesome views from there! And we scored an amazing deal on a Vista Suite on Carnival last year. Now, that's a balcony!

Unfortunately that's not a good idea, it messes up the ship's air-conditioning. The air-con in your cabin has to work harder as it's trying to cool the ocean as well the cabin, and that stuffs up the air-con in cabins around you.

They could just turn the A/C off, which would alleviate the A?C issues, however, the OP should be aware though that the ship guidelines state that the door shouldn't be left open whether the passenger is inside or outside and definitely not when no one is in the cabin at all. It is not just for the A/C issues but also for safety, having the Balcony door open causes a vacuum for the main door which is a heavy fireproof door and may cause it to slam, it can also have something blow out or into the cabin which may cause litter or worse something blow into the cabin, a possible fire risk.

I don't think you can actually turn the air-con off on most ships, the only control you have is the temperature.

I suppose it would depend on the ship, the point is that there are other reasons why the door shouldn't be left open than just the A/C.

Agreed. Although some of the more modern ones have more flexibility; the ones on Quantum/Ovation allowed a few additional settings so Majestic may do that too.

I've been thinking about booking the Tasmania cruise on majestic, but waiting for royal Caribbean to release their prices as ovation is doing a tassie cruise similar dates and I really want to see ovation.

Can I be lazy and ask about the obstructed balconies, it seems there are less obstructed ones, is there specific cabins that are better? Or maybe even a thread that may have the information?

I've never been on princess do most of you recommend booking directly??

Thanks

Have a look at the deck plans. The obstructed balconies are on deck 8. Most of them have slight obstruction downwards from the lifeboats below. There are a few cabins that overlook the promenade deck instead - Port side E414 to E432 and Starboard side E415 to E433. Some of these have extended balconies.

Note that the Premium Balcony cabins don't have bigger balconies, just a slightly bigger cabin with a small sofa instead of a chair.

Also note that Majestic is different from most Princess ships in that she's been designed for the Chinese market so less bars, less outdoor deck areas, karaoke rooms, more gaming areas, some different speciality restaurants. And Princess doesn't have the same level of amusements that Royal Caribbean has.

On the topic of more gaming area's any ideas on what they mean by the "gaming vista lounge"? Is it set out like the other Vista lounges or something else? Haven't found any pictures yet.

Apparently the back section of the Vista Lounge has mahjong tables but the rest of it looks like a regular Vista Lounge.

There are heaps of pictures of Majestic in this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2480969

There are some Vista Lounge pictures on page 4.

CanadianBurger did a wonderful job of documenting the ship for us all.

more thinking of that outdoor gym equipment, what a waste of space.

I reckon the VIP gaming room will be a ghost town based on how busy the main casino is in general on every cruise we have been on so far, as for the private gaming room........... All useful spaces for the Australian season as far as I can see.

The VIP Gaming area is where Club 6 is on Royal. I wonder if they've made that area flexible or whether it is fixed as a gaming area. Essentially it removes yet another bar.

I'll try to remember to suss out Club 6 on Royal in September, see how much it is utilized.

With Crooners gone as well there could be a shortage of bar seating on Majestic.
