Live From The Mariner 13-24 May 2017 (Lite)

"Z", Rachel and Wes, thank you for the TapaTalk information. I downloaded it onto my Android phone (my only Apple product is my desktop). When I open it I see a woman in a bikini - go figure. Don't want to spend your time on this very off topic subject (although hopefully it is helpful to others as well)

Okay - now for Mariner questions:

1. Does you suite look like it needs refurbishment (carpets and other soft goods?).

2, Having been on the Explorer, is it still great to be on Mariner?

3. Who is the current G.M.?

4. If you have dined in La Veranda for lunch or breakfast, did it feel crowded?

Also, the seas from SFO to the inside passage can be rather rough. How has it been? Fortunately you are what is arguably the most stable ship in the fleet.

Knowing that I'll be on the ship in just over 3 months is an unexpected treat for me (although now I have less time to lose weight from my last couple of cruises). Dennis has a way of making all of my wishes and dreams come true!

Please wish Pam a very Happy Mother's Day!

Wes: thanks for the well wishes.

Jackie:

1. No, not really. Everything looks well maintained throughout the ship.

2. Yes. However, the Explorer is over the top in terms of luxury feel and decor. The biggest difference between both vessels is that our Cat F cabin feels very crowded compared to the roomy Cat F2 on the Explorer. The bathroom is about half the size, the closet feels cramped, and the cabin is much narrower. But, it is all in our heads and all good since we are extremely happy with everything.

The crew has been extremely helpful and outstanding.

3. It's Massimo and we are having dinner with him tonight. This will be interesting since no one can really iron clothes due to the laundry being closed during the current code red condition. My shirt will look as if I ironed it after drinking a bottle of mad dog 2020.

4. Not at all even with the extra health precautions and during today's rush hour during a sea day.

The seas are up to 20 foot swells with wind gusts up to 50 knots. It is definitely chilly outside.

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Z & TB your very well written posts reflect a wonderful sense of humor--have choked up twice today (i.e., the no no describing how much Pam liked her cuisine, and spritzing your shirt while ironing with MD2020 :). Thanks Bob, for taking us along....smiling often.

Rachel, Wes, and Ken. Two out of three of you know TB. She is the sweetest, quietest person in the world. At the same time, her temper is epic and historic. As soon as she reads all this, my name is mud and my life is not worth a plug nickel. C'est la vie.

Jackie: Risky, Olivia, and Massimo all say hello.

:wine-glass: When is your funeral ? Then again, for a small monetary and "Rum" consideration, I could forget all about that comment and help preserve your sorry carcass.

Good morning, everyone. We woke this morning to a cloudy and gloomy day in Astoria, Oregon.

Last night was the Captain's reception but we did not attend (been there). Instead, we had a few drinks and swapped some lies at the Mariner lounge prior to dinner. We were invited to eat with Massimo the ship's GM and Olivia, the assistant CD. We were served by one of our favorite servers, Risky and she was excellent, funny, and full of recommendations. We were also joined by two couples who have cruised together over 40 times! I had the crab salad and cod fillets for dinner and The Boss had lobster bisque, risotto, and Maine lobster. I wish we had noted the name of the wonderful white French wine. No food porn today because I totally forgot to take pics. We really had a wonderful time and lingered for about an hour and forty five minutes. The other two couples were really nice and friendly folks and Olivia and Massimo were the perfect hosts with amazing stories. BTW, they send their hellos to Jackie.

The code red is now lifter and it seems we are back to normal.

Today: shot in Astoria tour, brave the weather, and get waxed again at trivia.

Tomorrow: sea day and laundry and ironing day.

Thanks so much for the messages from Risky, Olivia and Massimo. Sadly, at least two of them (plus Donald) will likely not be onboard the Mariner at the end of August but possibly could be on our November Mariner cruise.

Enjoying your blog, your photos and the harassment that you are receiving from those of us who know you:evilsmile:. Roberto, as you probably know, I only say nice things about you behind your back.

Anxious to hear about your visit to Astoria. I suspect that it could be cold and wet (at least it is up here in Washington). In a couple of days it is expected to be in the 70's and sunny but am not sure how it affects the areas where you will be.

Have a Mexican Butterly for me!

Don't know how I missed the Astoria photos -- they look similar to the weather I am seeing outside my window. I forgot to ask who the Cruise Director is. I know who it's not (John Barron or Paul Reynolds) but am curious who is onboard.

Astoria looks pretty bleak today! But I am sure you brightened things up.

Hopefully your weather will improve. We did Vancouver to Vancouver this time last year and had perfect weather, so there is hope.

ZSQUEEZE ! CRUISECRITIC PARTY !

Also onboard

Called yesterday because most cruisecritic parties are on the first sea day . Thought I might have missed it but they said they knew nothing about it and would get back to me. They did not so I just called again.

I had finally got the conformation email that we had reached the minimum and there would be a party but did not bring a copy.

They reception guy just called me back and said...

As soon as we reach 12.....I CAN ARRANGE THE PARTY

Do you know what is going on?

I will defer to you...YOU CAN ARRANGE the party. :)

As I have posted previously, "we" do not need Cruise Critic to have a "Meet and Greet" (no offense to CC but Regent cruisers are notorious for not joining Roll Call and - even if they do - many do not show up for the M&G.). I understand that CC is really trying and Regent likely is as well but one cannot predict what Regent cruisers will do. For instance, there are less passengers this summer on Alaska cruises than I have ever seen. Most sailing do not have a Roll Call. This sailing had mixed messages (yes you will have a M&M and no, you did to meet the minimum).

For the future, I suggest that there be a back-up plan to CC's "Meet and Mingle". Otherwise it you risk of chance of not meeting each other. Unless this "new" "M&M" takes off, I will not be signing up for our five future cruises.

P.S. "Z" knows just how wonderful a M&G can be. He arranged one on our November Explorer cruise. It was wonderful. Officers attended (the Captain stayed for a long time)....... it was a blast!

Thank you for posting the Astoria pics. My nephew is stationed there--Coast Guard. He'll make sure to keep the waters safe for you!:)

Enjoy the rest of your cruise!

Just after reading your email we sailed past the USCG air station. So far, the waters have behaved although they look really gloomy and dark.

Shippy: I spoke with the F&B manager yesterday and he said we would be having a M&M but not sure when. I will check with him as soon as I find him and will try to post update here. Hang in there because one way or another we will have a get together.

Ok. Ask and you shall receive. I just cornered the F&B manager and the GM and after they smacked me around, they promised to have an event during a sea day at 1100 or so, possibly on the 18th. They will look and see what other events are available and deconflict before letting us know. There will be Sangria. Stand by for more info.

P.S. I am usually at the Mariner Lounge at 6PM if anyone onboard would like to say hi.

We are on the middle of our second main course since the first one was not enough. I had incredible pork chops and The Boss had chicken Kiev. However, she is out to break her lobster record so she just ordered another one along wit pano crusted shrimp for me. Here's The Boss enjoying Compass Rose :

Of course we can get together on our own.

I like the casual get together of the Meet & Greet with the officers in an somewhat organized manner.

The point of my post was that we were confirmed to have the meeting.

"Z", we booked a 10 night cruise - Vancouver to S.F. a couple of hours ago. Regent is having a heck of a time selling the 7 night August 23rd cruise and the 10 night August 30th cruise so the price was amazing.

Jackie

Jackie, thank you for this info. We are considering this cruise. What is the new price per diem?]

OOOOO! That looks really good! Also like the looks of that French white.....how was it?

Has there been a wine tasting of what Regent is currently serving? In the past they've done that and I really like it as then we know what's available gratis....

Hope you're having a wonderful time!

This wine was superb and went well with my previous dish, pan seared pork chop. There was one wine tasting on Sunday but we missed it due to the great briefing from Terry Breen. There is another one scheduled for the 18th and we hope to attend.

Having a great time despite the fact that we feel like icicles and we haven't made it to Alaska yet.
