Live From The Mariner 13-24 May 2017 (Lite)

Recommended Posts

Great photo of "the bridge"! How can you walk so far with the "boot" (or has it finally been removed)?

Enjoy the Hunan style smoked ham!

Oh we are bootless as if two weeks ago. However, my foot is a little stiff from all the walking. We ended up taking almost 16000 steps yesterday. Pam had surgery on both her feet about three years ago and is also a little stiff but we are ready to hit the road today and live like Bacchus (roman god of wine).

:D Bubba Z : drinks, baseball, more drinks, wine tours : I've seen this movie before. ;p

A question : I don't see on your spreadsheet any reminders to take your medication ?

Please promise me you won't get into any embarrassing situations like you did in Santorini where you were cussing at that parked van.

Some Canadian advice while in Alaska - don't eat yellow snow. Have fun, Putz.

"Z", we booked a 10 night cruise - Vancouver to S.F. a couple of hours ago. Regent is having a heck of a time selling the 7 night August 23rd cruise and the 10 night August 30th cruise so the price was amazing. So, I'll be even more interested in your posts than before. I won't bug you until you get onboard and get settled. Then I will definitely have questions.

Hope that you enjoy every moment of your cruise!

Jackie

P.S. BTW, this means that we will become Titanium when we board the Mariner in November. I'm not sure why this suddenly became important to me but when you get so close, it takes on a life of its own. Thankfully, I'm married to one of the most amazing men on earth!:halo:

I'm not sure what is going on with the "quote feature". Either this or the next post is a duplicate!

I'm having a serious case of insomnia and been awake since 3AM.

Rachel: lol. We also had matching speedos to go with our polos.

Ken: squat on a flare, bro. Actually miss you.

Bill: had lots of encounters with him especially my senior year.

Jackie: serious kudos. Still waiting for the adoption papers to come through so I can call you mom.

Linda: I actually thought of the M and BM society meetings onboard the Explorer during our second pitcher.

Good morning. I finally got myself a cup of coffee and am ready to board the Mariner. The Boss is on strike and won't get up, but we have ways to motivate her.

Yesterday was a gloriously beautiful day. It was picture perfect weather as we headed to Sonoma. We visited four vineyards and tasted everything from red zins to pinots and even sparkling wines. Karen and John made the tour more fun as we swapped war stories and had a few laughs. I bought and shipped a case and a half of wine from Cline cellars and Jacuzzi vineyards. Jacuzzi wine tasting is located in a stunningly beautiful Italian style building. We also purchased some tapanade and olive oil.

I have more pics on my camera which I will download and post later on today or during tomorrow's sea day.

BTW, we used silver lion tours for our wine tasting venture and they were excellent.

Dinner was a little disappointing. We went to a Chinese restaurant that we had been to on our last trip to SFO. It was not up to par with the food being way too spicy (my fault).

Today: quick jaunt to Fisherman's Wharf to see the sea lions then we head out to the cruise port to board the Mariner.

Roberto! Dusted off and plugged in my Chuckle-Meter as soon as I saw your thread. I love me my Zqueeze posts and will be happily following along on what I hope will be a terrific cruise for you and Pam. I'd ask you to hold your nose and down a piña colada for us (back story here, which you may or may not recall), but I don't have to, as Gin and I board the Mariner after you along with Little Boss Shauna!

Rich: great to hear from you. We will down a few and then some for yous.

Had a wonderful morning walking around and seeing all the sea lions. The Boss swears that there is a similarity in physique between them and me.

We are now waiting to board and this is our first view of the Mariner:

Jackie: FYI, I saw some "Risky" business in Compass Rose.

Apparently there was a high level of sick folks and crew members in the last cruise, so Regent is taking several precautions such as plenty of hand sanitizer stations, food served by crew members, no salt and pepper shakers, and, sort of new to me, the closing down of the laundry room. Now I have to wear a shirt that looks as if it was ironed by my cross-eyed cousin Raul.

The weather is unreal with lots of sunshine and a brisk, 24-knot breeze. What a beautiful day:

Lunch was superb with the best ever mashed potatoes, prime rib, shrimp, rock fish, and red cabbage. The Boss looks as if she swallowed a bowling ball. (Please don't tell her I said that).

So sorry to hear that the crew have been sick. That is so unusual for a sailing this time of the year. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon. Assume the laundry room is closed as well? I would love to see a photo of you ironing your shirt!

So, Risky is there? Hope she will still. onboard at the end of August!

Okay - there is one small favor I have (I know - it will cost me - eventually ). Please see who the F&B Director is. I think it is Donald and also think he will leave before we are onboard. We adore this man. If he is there and you find him (he is a rather short man - from Honduras -- usually can be found lunch time at the outdoor barbecues outside of La Veranda, please tell him that we send our love (not regards...... love) and we hope to see him in November. The Captain may be Capt. Teo. If it is, please send our regards. Okay - I know - that was two favors but I had to ask. Now I owe you two favors.

You may have Capt. Teo, Davor (G.M. - I hesitate to ask you to say hi to him as well) and Donald. The main reason we want to return to the Mariner is the crew that tend to stay with that ship. Prior to the Explorer, we sailed only on the Mariner for a long time.

Continue to have a great time!

P.S. If you happen to be hugging Risky, please hug her for us too (way too many favors!).

Capt John: glad we could bring you a little stroll down memory lane.

Jackie: I just spoke with Donald and he was elated to hear from you and sends his regards. He also said that the captain is Captain Melani. I will reach out and say hi for yous.

The internet has baffled me for most of our time onboard, but, thanks to the IT specialist, I am now reconnected. I now have to move some pics from my camera to my cell so I can post them through Tapatalk.

The sail away was totally breathtaking and very exciting. Imagine the magnificent presence of the Golden Gate Bridge, add the natural beauty of the surrounding hills, and throw in a blistering wind that almost rips your camera from your hand. Terry Breen had a running commentary as we left SFO and approached the bridge. The air was electric with everyone's excitement to go under the bridge and with the start of a wonderful new cruise adventure. Thanks Karen and John for saving us some seats in the lounge.

We went to the Mariner bar afterwards and had a couple of drinks prior to dinner at Prime 7. Wow! It was superb. The Boss had Maine Lobster and I had a New York strip steak with a lobster tail. We really like the Riesling wine poured onboard.

It is also nice to see so many crew members from past cruises.

Weather is gorgeous but the seas are rough and the rocking is sporty.

Today: our first lecture by Terry Breen, sampling more wines, and dinner with the GM.

Tomorrow: The Boss gets to yell, "hey you guys" while swinging from the mast of a pirate ship as she reenacts a scene from "The Gooneys" in Astoria.

Loving the photos. Wish I had you teach me Tapatalk while we were on the Explorer. Do you just use wifi on the phone? Think I'll Google it.

Thanks for contacting Donald - he is a super nice person. I haven't met Captain Melani but did read about her. I believe that he was the first Captain on Oceania newest ship, Sirina.

Enjoy Astoria -- it is a fun place!

Jackie, Tapatalk is BY FAR the easiest way to upload pics to cc, the only way I have gotten to reliably work for me. And Z taught me.

Z, you better be glad I am not onboard to let TB know what you said about her stomach. You would be swimming with the fishes.

Rachel: you are so right. Sometimes I type faster than I think :)

Jackie: it is real easy to use. To add pics, just tap on the circled plus sign, then tap the icon that looks like twin mountain peaks, and select the pic you want to load. Easy peasy.
