If a 3rd Marina class ship -add/subtract/change what?

A couple of issues with the casino haters:

 

1. The casinos are operated by a third Party that pays cash for that Venue. Whatever the casino haters put in that space would have to bring in equivalent , or greater, revenue for O.

 

2. My experiences, over multiple cruises, is that the casino doesn't start rolling until 10:30. - 11:00 and then can go for awhile. Casino Haters are often off to bed by the time the evening show lets out if not beforehand. If O killed the casinos, they would further be writing off those cruisers that have no desire to be tucked in by 10:30 or before. The major cause of the casino haters is to kill all late night entertainment for all, imo.

Sounds about right. My BW is a slots junkie. I could care less. She would kill anyone who takes them away.

Larger outdoor seating in the Terrace Cafe and build some new R ships. I think the R ships are perfect in just about every way.

Thanks for the continued thought provoking comments. Please review your wording before hitting the "Post Reply" button. I did not on the "Darling what are you wearing" thread and may now be forced to suggest the banning of men wearing ties of future "O" class ships. (maybe not bow ties).

I personally think the bathrooms are looking dated , to dark they need to be Just be a tad more upmarket rather than chintzy , its the stone marble look I dislike , oh and the shower is way to small . To be honest sitting on the loo the bathroom iour bathroom was showing signs of age , discolouration for the first 200mm above bath and around the floor / wall area.

 

Not sure what else to say really the ships are comfortable for sure , in some areas might like a bit more of a contemporary feel more line with some of the art works.

 

Yes alfresco dinning would be nice and I don't see why on an upper deck this could not. Be achieved despite of the occasional inclement weather by using movable glass wall type doors to enable open air or the feel of open air depending on weather

 

The AV is really a bit old hat , I would hope a new ship was more cutting edge , most decent hotels far exceed standards here ,stayed in. 4 star. Hotel in Lisbon before cruise and the TV and system were considerably better. I mean 4 channels with a fixed offering is really not on nowadays and crikey go collect a DVD , what's one of them !all the 400 titles ect should be on demand.

 

Waves always feel small bit low rent , like an after thought stuck in a wide corridor , for just misses the mark

 

Not sure the dozen or so brolleys accros the rear open air terrace look or work that well , maybe a few more taught fixed sail type arrangements

I could care less of they closed them down, but my BW is in the other side of this issue. My problem I guess, but neither of us is a hater of the other side. :):):)

For the record, I'm not a gambler and my wife on rare occasions his the slots. So, on a personal level, it doesn't affect me. Here's the issue however. Oceania's ships are already known as being sleepy ships. Many of their passengers are off to bed by 9:00 or immediately after the evening show, if they stay up to watch it. For those that don't want to go beddy bye that early, the casino becomes the only attraction and can get very lively. Killing the casino to replace it with a piano bar(one suggestion) doing Perry Como and Frank Sinatra requests would soon turn O's reputation from a sleepy ship to a floating geriatrics ward! Some cruisers may well excitingly go for that, but it's not in O's long term interest to repel those wanting a minimum of night life.

 

Even though the holder of the gaming license isn't getting my money, they are obviously getting enough of other cruisers so to make the rent payments to O worthwhile. One could make an argument that the casino is subsidizing our cruise fares. Loss the casino, and what is going to replace that lost revenue? Certainly not a piano bar from the geriatrics crowd.

My change would be in the spa. IIRC from my one trip on Riviera, when the door to the women's changing room is opened, anyone out in the spa reception area gets a free show. Has anyone else notice that? Perhaps it's already been fixed.

The best piano bar on a ship is the Avenue Saloon on Crystal ships. Great bar with intimate seating.

IF they could build a ship at the size of the R class But without losing any of the amenities of the O class then I would be all in. I don't want to give up on any of the Speciality Restaurants or other unique features of the O class ships.

Can not happen. The Explorer is 735 feet and the R class is 593. How do you cram 735 into 593? And I think the O class is even longer. Lets build another O class with all that we want in her.

Actually I was attempting to get to a "Goldilocks" sweet spot between those of us who love the O class and those who are R class devotees. Explorer fits between those two with a length of 750 as compared to 784 for the O class and 593 for the R class (56,000 tons as compared to 66,000 and 30,777 respectively and a passenger max of 750 as opposed to 1250 on O class and 684 on R class)

That is the beauty of my dream to tweak the design of Seven Seas Explorer as it doesn't seem to leave anything out from what we O class aficionados like and for the R class folks it reduces the max passenger capacity by 500 PAX. It even has a Culinary Arts Kitchen (something lacking on the R ships) and don't fret there is a Casino too. Since it is the most recent addition to the Regent Fleet I assume that a lot of thought was given to the design so why not leave the "old" designs in the Oceania fleet behind and go with the "latest"

You could very well be right as I am no marketing expert but I can notice that while the price point on Regent Seven Seas is greater than Oceania that price is for a more inclusive experience (Roundtrip BUSINESS CLASS Air fare, UNLIMITED shore excursions, UNLIMTED Beverages, OPEN bars and Lounges, PRE-PAID Gratuities and INCLUDED transfers between airport and ship) Would stripping all of the above bring this ship down to the Oceania price point without having to shrink the cabins et al? I don't know but it doesn't seem to me that building a version of Explorer for Oceania is as far out of reach as we might first think.
