Got an email that St Thomas was changed to St Kitts.....

St Thomas and St John was the only reason I booked this cruise over Mediterranean cruise, now it has been taken away from the trip, from the researches I have done, St Kitts is not known for its beaches (I am a huge blue water, white sands beach fan). Now I will be heading over 2 ports (San Juan, St Kitt) that I think is boring and Labadee that I have been there already...

This really disappointed me, I called in and see if we're getting any sort of compensation due to the changes... NO, asked if I can cancel this cruise and book for something else, NO

sigh....

St. Thomas/St. John was the only reason you chose a Caribbean cruise over a Mediterranean cruise? The only one? You have a lot riding on just 8 hours of port time to make/break your trip...which is unfortunate.

The cruise ticket contract states the cruise may cancel/deviate/substitute any port of call/sailing/etc. Obviously their goal is to not do this, however given the condition of certain ports, visiting is not viable. They have no responsibility to compensate for a substituted port and have no obligation to offer cancellation.

I'm glad that Harmony was one of your reasons. She is a wonderful ship with a great crew as well as fantastic shows. The show "Columbus", written by Royal Caribbean, is our favorite. I think we have seen it 8 times over the four cruises that we sailed on the HM...now we have booked the HM for 7 more!!!! Love that ship!! Please dine at Wonderland...it is the most beautiful restaurant in the fleet. Also, ride those slides!!!

Hopefully you will have a wonderful cruise.

Glad to hear as well. I haven't been on Harmony yet...but I love Oasis class. Also never been to St. Kitts (one of the few I haven't been to). I hope you find something enjoyable to do!

Great!!! They have their own bar on deck 12 just inside the enterance. Do go early and have a drink at the bar...a great area. You will then be escorted down the grand staircase to your table...really impressive. Whatever you do save room for dessert...the chocolate ball. I am so happy for you. Enjoy!!

As an aside: we have cruised many times and have only taken one excursion in St. Kitts. We anticipate that several of our upcoming cruises will be switched from St. Martin to St. Kitts. We are deterimined to find the perfect beach and enjoy ourselves.

Even if you were to get "compensation", you should immediately turn around and donate it to recovering the islands you wanted to go to so much.

I don't think enough people realize how devastated these islands are. This wasn't a normal hurricane. It will take years for some of them to recover. But hey, as long as you get a few hundred dollars in obc who cares.

Well said.

If you can afford to cruise then you can afford to give something to the relief efforts for one of the devastated islands.

Just read this to Mr Ski....he says maybe they will drop you off on St T /St J and you can help with the cleanup of rubble, debris, demolished houses, etc.

My thoughts....So very sad that you would even think that you should be compensated. First off, the devastation on the islands is so very sad and should be everyone's first thought with prayers for the islands. Having a port changed is always a possibility....hurricane season or not. However, it is a higher possibility when you cruise during hurricane season. The chance you take when you book during the hurricane season. You are fortunate St Kitts has space for the ship and you get a "substitute port" and not just another seaday. We have enjoyed beaches at St Kitts. The Marriott offers a day pass. Carambola has very nice facilities, service, and food. We have heard good things about Reggae Bar and are going to check it out this year.

Have you been to San Juan? Why do you think it boring? We love San Juan.

You should visit Carambola Beach Club. It's a wonderful blue water, nice sand location! Here is a review I did from our cruise in January and I post a few pics on there. The taxi is pretty cheap to get there!

To follow up on my earlier post. These images of before and after from NASA show how much devastation there was to just the vegetation alone.

I will be interested to see if our St. Thomas port gets switched on the Oct 1 Allure cruise. We originally were going to Nassau, St. Kitts, and St. Thomas. Last month they swapped St. Kitts for San Juan due to Allure propulsion issue. I am not sure where we will be going now if St Thomas is not ready by Oct 1. Maybe Labadee if there is capacity that week.

As others have stated, cruising this time of the year increases the chances of changes to itineraries due to weather. That is part of cruising in the Caribbean. Wherever we go, it will be an enjoyable cruise. Especially on the Oasis class ships where there is so much to do.

It is extremely unlikely you will be going to St. Thomas next month. Look at the image I just posted above your post.

I am not sure how accurate it is to look at those 2 satellite photos Look at the difference in water color in the 2 photos.
