Mean & Nasty Passengers

There are ones on every cruise unfortunately.

There was a guy on our recent cruise (10/7 to 10/21) who thought it was perfectly fine to use his Vape Cigarette everywhere. When my husband, who is a smoker, asked him to please use the designated area for smokers like he has to, the guy called him an a_sh_o_e.

I know I’ll catch hell for this, but the worst are from the east coast. Now I know many New Yorkers/New Jersey folks are lovely, but I’ve noticed that there are also some real jerks. Like the little old lady who literally pushed me to get in line at a tender, or the family who took our seats on the bus and scattered our belongings all over, or the woman who threw her garbage on the floor of the Sistine Chapel and then told me it wasnt hers when i politely picked it up and and said, “Excuse me, you dropped this.” Or the man who walked to the front of the line at the pursers desk and then made a scene because he was told he had to wait in line like everyone else.

Did you ask them where they were from?

No City, nor State, nor Region have a monopoly on being jerks and inconsiderate. After living for nearly 3 decades in a Beach Resort in SC (Myrtle Beach), I can assure you they come from everywhere.

I am so sorry that you mother had to experience that!!!!:( I really wish I had been there to lend your mom some support and defense! PS I think I have a God-given gift for gently but firmly defending folks from this kind of brutish and disgusting behavior.

If I was near that "POS", The muster station would have been able to do a live "man over board" rescue. The only way for "evil to flourish is for the good to do nothing". If ANYONE sees a situation like this, GET involved! They'd love me on the "What would you Do?" show.

I convinced that the cook staff makes all the difference in the world. A good chef can work wonders with just basic ingredients.

I think you hit the nail on the head! I asked our waiter why the Maître D was taking the chef around to so many tables. His response was, due to all the complaints about poor food quality, the chef had to explain himself to the pax who were very disappointed(us included) I certainly hope this guy is no longer the Ex. chef on the Eclipse(or any OTHER ship, for that matter)

I suppose you did see this article the other day.

Not only are the passengers sometimes rude but I've seen Head Waiters who are very rude to their waiters in the MDR for no apparent reason at all. When I see how hard the waiters are trying to please the pax this really bothers me.

Our elevator stopped at our floor. Before we could exit, a crowd pushed into the elevator. Once settled, I politely asked that those who shoved their way into the elevator, now back up so that we could disembark. Several, who had watched the shoving, applauded.

Be polite, you get the point across.

I always block an elevator access to allow for someone in a wheelchair- too many times they just back up and wait. Been ther, done that with my father. I always said thank you to someone who gave way - and usually also was able to squeeze on,

We go on cruises with our 85 year old parents/in-laws. Mom is in a scooter. If someone is rude to her, she gives it right back! No shrinking violet, she. The only time she is truly aggressive is when she wants a certain machine in the casino at the same time someone else wants it. So tell Mom not to take any rudeness. She has just as much right to be there as anyone.

just off the regal. i cannot recall off the top of my head anyone being mean. and excluding the muster elevator situation i dont think anyone rude either. but you do gotta love the 'squeeze one more on' mentality.

oh wait, i did see someone. they were traditional dining and tried to get in anytime. we were 2nd in line behind them. the head waiter gave them a quick lesson and they were on their way.

i saw many acts of kindness including those holding open elevators for slow walkers.

I totally agree. That's why I always get involved. PS Part of the gift I have for handling these types is the fearless anger that shows on my face when I politely suggest that the brutes modify their behavior immediately. :D

to c-boy and smixsell - You get in my face and I call security immediately and get your sorry bully asses thrown off the ship before it even sails. Think about that before taking matters in your bully hands. That is what security is for

Nothing rude about it at all. If security wants to get in my face, I have to deal with that - another passenger, not so much. what part of Appalachia are youz from ? and I too read the post about calling out people and asking if they were from NY - weak sauce,

Neither said they would get in someone's face, which implies a physical altercation. I'm not sure how politely dealing with someone's boorish and inappropriate behavior towards another passenger is interpreted as bullying. I think the point of the entire thread is we all need to remember to be considerate and realize we all have to live together for a finite period of time on ship. There's nothing wrong with politely letting someone know they have overstepped boundaries, especially if they are boorish to someone who cannot stand up for themselves (often literally) and that is not going to get soemone thrown off of the ship. Some people can do this with class and grace.

"Fearless anger showing in my face"?

The great majority of people we encountered on our Princess cruise were polite and thoughtful. It is a vacation, after all; and people are there to relax and have a fun time.

In the muster drill case, where the man was leaning against the railing, and the mom thought that his posterior was too close to her, she asked him to move. He didn't want to move, ( or he did not see any place else to move) and the situation then escalated into an a series of back-and-forth insults which became so unpleasant and heated that mom and daughter felt their cruise was ruined from the very first day.

So, you have to pick your battles. You can win the battle ( by quote "getting in the guy's face" and blowing up about it, at which point an already argumentative passenger will push back), or you can look at the larger picture, which is that muster drill is about 20 minutes out of the entire cruise.

You don't have to "go to the mats" whereby you win the battle, but lose the war. - EBC

If there is a passenger v passenger 'situation' - that is not up to another passenger to play judge , jury, and executioner.. that's up to Princess security to handle. Now if the confrontation gets physical between the first two passengers, then it is perfectly acceptable to control the situation until security arrives

Well, here is one for the books - on our LA to Sidney cruise (31 days) - before we hit Hawaii (5 days) two women were put off the ship for shoplifting. Two couples were put off somewhere in the Pacific islands for a fight in the laundry. Two men were also pit off the ship when they had a deckhand by the neck on the floor because he removed their towels and stuff from chairs after over an hour.

I asked the Capt later if this was normal - he answered - No, I have dealt with much worse

We had a guy at Crooner's threaten to "beat you up and your fat wife, too". The bartender's watched him and were about to call security when his friend got him out of there.

I later learned that he and his wife had been banned from any place that was selling alcohol.

I would have had the bartender's call security ASAP instead of waiting, but I guess they have their rules.
