Kiwi Kruzer Posted October 26, 2017 #26 Share Posted October 26, 2017 I would be surprised if cruise ships which can berth at Portside don't continue to berth there. It is closer to the city and close to airport, ferries, public transport, with lots of motels nearby for passengers to stay pre cruise, if necessary. We will have to wait and see, but I cant see much point in the taxpayers of QLD building and paying for a great facilitity if the ships dont use it. . Carnival wont want to waste money and time going up the river and its not as if P&O even own Portside.

Carnival wont want to waste money and time going up the river and its not as if P&O even own Portside. If the cruise industry keeps building bigger ships, they will use the new terminal. However, I think there will be growth in smaller ships visiting Queensland, in addition to Carnival owned ships. So, as you say we will have to wait and see. Did you notice how many ships the new terminal will take at the one time, as most ships currently visit Australia in the northern winter?
Rare MMDown Under Posted October 26, 2017 #28 Share Posted October 26, 2017 Also more information here:http://www.smh.com.au/queensland/brisbane-s-new-cruise-ship-terminal-gets-the-green-light-to-go-ahead-20171025-p4ywmy.html 326 cruise ships to Brisbane in 2016 seems fanciful. Maybe they counted boats, like the Brisbane boat which cruises to Brisbane from the Gold Coast.

Sydney has three primary berths, and I can see Brisbane attracting similar custom. Brisbane already has enough for two often enough.

I think that number refers to cruise ship visits to Queensland ports.

Rare MicCanberra Posted October 30, 2017 #33 Share Posted October 30, 2017 I will believe when I see it You may have to wait a few years but I am sure with the cruise lines putting up the dosh, it will happen, it just may take a few years.
