Muster question

I read in a thread in the last few months that they have started checking S&S cards via a tablet during muster. Can some one Shar with me the changes and if this is speeding up the process? Hate standing there waiting for the late arrivals. TIA

They do scan 1 S&S card from each cabin to see who isn't there. Those who do not attend are made to attend one in a different area and watch a video and from what I heard, the video is longer. I felt it made the process quicker as we were not standing around waiting for the crew to count each person with the ticker they used to use.

I think the new process is better, but the thing I found tedious was when the staff would start calling out names of people not yet signed in, either in the muster area or over the PA. Once or twice is fine, but after the 4th time calling out a list of people, move on! Make those who didn't show up in the first 15 minutes go to the make up muster drill and let the rest of us who have respect for others by showing up on time get on with our cruise!

We found this to be the case on our recent Magic and Elation cruises. They didn't wait long, and if you hadn't been scanned in, off to the "special" muster drill for you!!!

When they start enforcing this fleet-wide, 2 things will happen- 1- people will stop grumbling about how long musters take and 2- people will start showing up on time, making # 1 even better!

Like children, if people never experience the consequences of their bad behavior they never have a reason to change it! Be consistent with the 15 min rule and most will pay attention. Those who don't will pay the price later.

Muster was slow and agonizing for us despite the new technology. We were standing out in the heat for what seemed like forever while late people were showing up, and they were allowed to show late. My disabled husband almost passed out and had to be escorted inside. I have osteoarthritis and heat sensitivity so it felt like torture. I wish they would do it indoors with ac and seating. Until that happens, we will be anticipating the muster drill with extreme dread when we sail Carnival.

Whenever I've taken a dream class ship the muster has been in side and pretty painless. However I took the liberty one time and it was outside and I was in the back row, five rows deep. It was so hot and I was so claustrophobic with all those people around I almost lost it. My mother was on the victory last week and the same thing happened to her.

I am unable to stand for any length of time so we check in at the muster station and then I am told I can go inside and sit down. I don't have to climb stairs to the actual lifeboats either. If you have a similar issue, just tell the muster station crew member your problem. Holland America actually has inside muster drills for those like myself and those are greatly appreciated.

Next time just identify yourselves in advance of the muster tone to a crew member an tell them of your disability.

First off it gets you elevator privileges when muster is called, that you don't have to head down to the promenade deck extra early. On ship's that still have the briefing outside, you will be escorted or directed to a certain lounge, library, card room, or conference room, to be inside and seated for the safety meeting.

The check-in people will note your cabin # and muster station, that if there is every an actual emergency special assistant is waiting for you. The best part of all is that is HC meeting is usually done before the general one, that you don't get caught in the dismissal crunch either.

I have not sailed Carnival for over 7 years, but the last couple of times I informed the Guest Services desk and they told me where to go for my muster and I was allowed to bring one person with me.

Just FYI for those of you who have mentioned it... Carnival has no control over where the muster drills are held. That is determined by the group SOLAS (Safety of Life At Sea) who prefer to have the muster at the lifeboat station, like on the older ships... but on the newer ships there is insufficient room to do that, so they designated places like the theater, dining rooms and larger lounges for it.

If other cruiselines' ships were inside, seated, chances are that it's a newer ship for that cruiseline as well.

Just thought you might want to know that Carnival would probably prefer to put everyone in a comfy air-conditioned spot (including their employees!) but they have to do as instructed by the authorities in charge of it.

Ironically, my one non-Carnival muster drill was inside on the former Celebration (now the Grand Celebration), and it of course is older than any ship sailing for Carnival.

What does this mean? You were allowed to bring one person with you, everyone must attend

Wow! I guess it really all has to do with whether there is sufficient space by the lifeboats as to where they locate the muster drill... all I know is that the cruiseline doesn't get to decide where it is.

Once, just once, it would be so awesome there was a mass protest against this indignity and half the ship skipped the drill. Obviously people are sheep so I don't see this happening unless a couple big groups got together and agreed to so it beforehand.

Can you just tell them this? Or would I need some kind of proof? I have really bad arthritis in my back and have a hard time standing for very long.

Then the ship would not be allowed to leave port. I don't know why people make such a big deal about the safety drill.
