What do you miss about your NCL experience?

Hi everyone!

I was just reading that at the introduction of Freestyle 2.0 these services – among others – were offered:

- A “bubbly welcome” – a welcome aboard glass of champagne for everyone

- New dining menus with expanded choices in every restaurant

- Lobster Galore –Lobster in the main restaurant twice per cruise and in every specialty restaurant every night of the cruise.

For Balcony cabins:

- Elemis bathroom amenities

- Bathrobes included

- Customized Fruit Menu

- Fresh-baked cookie at turn down on last night of cruise

- Personal escort to stateroom on embarkation day

Did any of these remain? I heard that the sparkling wine welcome is gone.

Weren't there Andes Candies (chocolate mints) put on the bed at turndown service?

I kind of miss that but no big deal.

I miss having trays in the buffet but to be honest I can't remember if it was on NCL

or some other line.

Trays in the buffet went out the year the Jewel went into the water: 2005, I think all lines or most have followed. As for the mints, yep, I sorta missed them this last cruise as well, but we usually just took them home with us and gave them to the grandkids.

That's a shame about the trays. If the buffet is really crowded and I am with my grandkids someone has to sit with the kids hold the table while the other gets food. Trays are a better thing than trying to juggle multiple plates of food!

I don’t miss the chocolate buffet. We went once, were invited to the “preview”, and my wife wanted to take photos.

I assumed “early access” meant “well-behaved”. Oops.

The doors opened, and a ravenous pack of hounds descended on the items (which wasn’t that impressive to me.) Pick up a piece, study it, put it back. Ugh. I was so grossed out, I left and I’m not exactly known for cleanliness. It was disgusting and those were the VIPs.

Good riddance.

(I do miss steak for lunch in the MDRs on embarkation day.)

I agree...they say it's due to sanitary reasons but I say BS.....it's to make sure you don't overeat. LOL

Things we miss in the MDRs:

crème brulee

shrimp cocktail

escargot

chilled fruit soups

Things we miss in O'Sheehan's:

mozzarella sticks

brownie sundae

other things we miss:

chocolates on the pillows

dining certificates for EACH platinum member

midnight buffet (before the chocoholic buffet debuted)

chocoholic buffet

the glass fishbowls for the DOD Rebellious Fish

But the thing we miss most is actually some specific people who were NCL to us:

Karan Arora

Denis Prguda

Tony (last name escapes me at the moment but he was a FBD from the UK)

Yannis Kazalis

Kevin Sheehan

Tony's last name is Lockett. He left NCL a few years ago and worked at a resort in Jordan. He is now retired. You may find him on facebook.

Ah yes, the NCL Latitudes member luggage tags. When I would receive my packet of cruise reservation documents in the mail about a month before the cruise, it would include these. You would punch them out of the plastic backing, then write your name, room, ship, sail date, and such on them with permanent marker and attach them to your luggage. Thanks for bringing back such fond memories.

Remember these ... over 10 years ago. Just found them in the drawer.e47cca15a6000e6c0f596362ac84f4f2.jpg

The crew!

We had wonderful bartenders and wait staff at our main hangout spot on Pride of America. The Waikiki Bar (deck 13, aft) is the only smoking area on the ship so we were there most of the time if we weren't on land. I can't tell you how much better they made our experience. We were a small percentage of young married couples with no kids on the ship and that bar is the most chill area onboard. The front of the ship constantly had stuff going on...activities, music, loud noises etc, but the Waikiki Bar was so laid back and the coolest guests/employees seem to all hang/work there. I was a little annoyed at first that they only allowed smoking in one designated area but now I realize I wouldn't have met so many amazing people if that wasn't the case so...you lose some, you win some!

I'll second that emotion. I miss not being on an NCL cruise soon enough. These next three months are going to drag by so slowly, in anticipation of this wonderful vacation.

Bathrobes are still included for balcony rooms and above.

You can order fresh fruit plates for desert at dinner. We do that.

Cookies are scarce, but are sometimes available in the buffet.

Sadly Elimis products were replaced with something else.

Wait. I'm currently packing for our Escape cruise on Saturday. We decided to pack bathrobes since they were only available at the spa on the Jade and the Getaway. Are you sure you've seen robes included with balcony cabins? What ships and when?
