Seavoyage Posted December 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Hello - can anyone advise if there are any perks for booking specialty restaurants such as the Pinnacle or Canaletto the first night? Do they still offer a free bottle of house wine or 50% off better selections? Thank you.
Rare Crew News Posted December 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2017 No advantage to booking the first night. I have noticed that the first night seems to be HAL's night of choice for those booking with sales giving free Pinnacle Grill dinners.
Krazy Kruizers Posted December 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2017 We always book a specialty restaurant for the first night. Can't stand the confusion in the dining room on that night. Never have gotten a free bottle of house wine. But many, many years ago we use to get the Pinnacle Grill for 1/2 price. That offer is long gone. CruiserBruce Posted December 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Long time ago, used to be 50% the first night. But that was a long time ago.
RocketMan275 Posted December 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2017 I wouldn't view the house wine as an incentive.
Seavoyage Posted December 29, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted December 29, 2017 I wouldn't view the house wine as an incentive. Hey Thanks. Wasn't the question - but I'm so glad you got that out. #j***

That offer is long gone. Agree 100%. First night confusion in MDR delays things. If we have fixed dining, we still go to the MDR for the first night, to meet our tablemates. If Open dining, we often go to one of the specialty dining options.
Sage Posted December 29, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2017 I also like going to the speciality dining the first night. I generally know what they have, and they don't seem as rushed. If you are a four star mariner or higher, you get 50% off your meal.
EeyoreFan1967 Posted December 29, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 29, 2017 I have read a few recent reports that there have been offers on board to book Tamarind first night for 25% off. There have been cards on the tables in Lido with the offer. I don't know if this extends to all restaurants or all sailings. Perhaps they just offer this when/where there's availability? I won't count on this being offered, and it isn't offered in advance, just on board.

Seavoyage Posted December 29, 2017 Author #11 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Thank you all. Thinking about booking the Tamarind first night....We have the beverage package but was just wondering....I think on our last Maasdam cruise they offered wine in the Pinnacle....just can't remember. Rare Vict0riann Posted December 29, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 29, 2017 We have Tamarind booked for the first night, the last night, and one in between for the first leg of our cruise, :D then the Pinnacle for the first night of the second leg, with friends. I have a feeling that, on the second leg, we will eat most evenings in a specialty restaurant. I don't think we got any discounts. We should get our 5-star benefit once we have the dinners. Aquahound Posted December 29, 2017 #13 Share Posted December 29, 2017 On Koningsdam, all specialty restaurants are 25% off on the first night.
DeepWaterMariner Posted December 29, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 29, 2017 I remember the 50% off special on the first night but haven't seen it in awhile. We usually have dinner at Canaletto the first and the last night of a cruise. Its become a tradition. We have open sitting so we aren't worried about meeting tablemates or last night goodbyes. ilovhywd Posted December 29, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Yes, we were offered 25% off any specialty restaurant on the Koningsdam the first night on our recent cruise. I guess it depends on availability. Definitely a great deal! We loved Tamarind! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
DeepWaterMariner Posted December 30, 2017 #16 Share Posted December 30, 2017 Crazy question - any meatballs in the Canaletto? Don't see on menu....Oh and I don't mean people - lol:') Absolutely. They are on the appetizer menu and they are excellent.
Rare VMax1700 Posted December 31, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 31, 2017 On Koningsdam, all specialty restaurants are 25% off on the first night. Do you know if they still give the mariner discount on top of this offer? Is it only bookable on board?
Aquahound Posted December 31, 2017 #18 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Do you know if they still give the mariner discount on top of this offer? Is it only bookable on board? Sorry, I really don't know about the Mariner discount part. I'm only 2 Star, so that's not something I have experience with. I'm pretty sure you'll only get the discount if you don't pre-pay it. On board, when you pay, they charge you the full amount, but the 25% is discounted later. You have to check your account to make sure they credited it correctly. kennystwin Posted January 2, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 2, 2018 I was on the Eurodam Decc. 10-17 and they were offering 25% off on all specialty dining the first night. They were advertising it heavily with tent cards on every table in Lido. I took advantage of it for a great dinner in Tamarind (I had checked out the MDR menu and was underwhelmed). There was availability for almost any time I wanted so I wouldn't worry about pre-reserving. Food and service was outstanding as usual. Great way for a foodie to start a cruise! I don't know if additional Mariner discounts apply. This was my last cruise as a 2 star - I'm looking forward to the 25% discount any day on my future cruises!
