Is the BREAKAWAY OK!!???

I've empathized repeatedly with people who were scared. I'd be scared, too. What I have contradicted are those who said they were unsafe. That is simply not true. That isn't bashing, but merely stating a fact. I've said it 10 times - being scared and being safe are 2 different things.

I am just saying that the fear is very real for them. i empathize with them. and fear can be heightened d/t the lack of info.

we have all the facts now, but they didn't. i cannot fault someone for how they acted based on how little info they had.

I totally agree with that and I understand the contemporaneous videos I viewed through that lens. My only point is that now that the facts are known, we should stick to those and not what someone "thought" happened.

No he did not sail a safe distance behind it. If he had there would be no issues.

Like why on the next cruise did they not have a balcony door?

Hey. Yes we did make finally and joined the masses waiting for the ship to arrive then waiting to check in then waiting to board but after siting in a cold dry terminal for over 6 hours we finally made it on board and found our balcony room without a balcony door and ice piled up everywhere on balcony, but what the heck, here we are sitting in is Osheehans having some wings and beer and we are happy. It is now 3:30 and still sitting in New York with promises of leaving within next hour or so.

I am so sorry to hear that you guys didn’t make it. There’s always a next time.

So because some damage occurred to the ship one can find, more probably than not, that the captain was negligent in the operation of the vessel?

There are so many failed logic points that I don't know where to start. So I won't. But I will say, obviously, for those cabins that are uninhabitable or in such a state that they materially diminish the value for the cruise, of course accommodation should be made (and most likely was). But that does not reflect the majority of the comments on here, which seem to be based on the returning cruise.

That is not how someone deals with PTSD (or rather adjustment disorder in this case, but it can become PTSD). you cannot tell someone to just deal with the facts. what people are experiencing is a bona fide DSM5 diagnosis and they should get the proper treatment for it.

Just as you cannot tell a rape victim or army vet to just deal with the facts, you cannot tell others with adjustment disorder/PTSD to just deal with the facts. life threatening (as perceived by the individual) cannot just be forgotten so easily devoid of the emotional trauma.

but i understand where you are coming from, which why you work in a field that deals mostly with the pertinent facts of the case

I hadn't looked at it from that angle. Thank you for the perspective.

Thank you. Maritime law is very confusing indeed, probably because it roots in the law go back further than almost anything. I only tangentially get involved with maritime issues (to the extent my client buyer's/seller's assets include a shipping fleet). And the one thing I learned about maritime law ... when the issue comes up, walk down the hall and talk to an expert! Ha

With the hurricane on the Jewel, we did have one wave were I'd estimate we listed somewhere between 10 and 15 degrees. That was almost enough to roll me out of bed. No, you wouldn't have been able to walk normally at that angle. But that was as we crested the lead 40 foot wave, and then we went into much calmer water. (Relatively. The waves were about 20-25 feet after that.)

We had one cracked shop window, a lot of liquor bottles on the floor in the shops, and one railing that had to be re-soldered.

In contrast, when we were on the Breakaway 3 weeks ago we were amazed at how stable she was. Fifteen to 20 foot waves and you never felt them at all.

Honestly, if you're concerned about movement on a ship then stick to floors 6 to about 10, preferably mid-ship, because of course the higher you go on the ship the more movement there will be.

I getting totally confused as well. On FB there is a poster who was on the cruise and is now telling folks what the ship is like right now (that there is vomit smell and mold). I swear one of her posts said she was home, so I'm wondering how she knows what the ship is like now.

Exactly!!!! I understand there were some hardships for a few days...but it sounds like some people are have cloned themselves and are giving varying perspectives (prior and current!!) LOL

every passenger on that ship should be refunded in full...no exceptions. First honestly who sails in Jan. from NY and to compare this to a storm in the tropics? I don't think so. Everyone knew this was coming and it was very bad...why did they continue right into it? I simply am amazed at what these cruise lines do to passengers. That was a major failure in judgement and put these people thru hell.

Bad weather on a ship in the Atlantic and full refunds?

Sorry, but it appears your parents did not school you in basic weather, economics, logistics and reality. Guessing you would also e the person that wants to refund everyone that was on the followup cruise that was delayed.

I am still looking for pictures and/or videos of BA pax from last week in the life vests, ready to abandon ship ;p   - it's a good thing that social media posters, including those on YT, aren't always one-sided.

Here's one that I just read, with a countering post, challenging some of the claims made by 2 (GTA) pax giving stories to a Toronto station ... verbatium:

"There are many things said in this interview that are not factual. I was on the same cruise and you can reach out if you’re interested. There was plenty of communication regarding the sea and wind situation including the captain making a 3am announcement although it was heard everywhere just not the staterooms so anyone that was sleeping would not wake up. Another announcement was made at 8am and pretty much every 2 hours from there. A pre storm force wind announcement was also made at approximately 8pm that was fed into the restaurants and staterooms so it couldn’t be missed. Many facts missing here "

Where is the "evidence" that the BA sail into the storm - when it was really trailing the storm, hundreds of nautical miles apart. Ship left Bahamas early doing 15 knots before going out of AIS range and further slowed down, sometime between Wednesday & Thursday, to around 11, maybe 10 knots when it was reported to be off the Carolinas. It was a massive storm, fast moving - but the ship was nowhere near the eye and/or center of the storm or close to the red zone with the highest waves in the big Atlantic (oceanweather's data/chart)

Not discounting that it was nerve wrecking and nowhere near a smooth ride, it was not.

Tuffyleigh is posting both ways. Unless they are on B2B she is full of bologna. Still no pic of the missing balcony doors either.

The reason people are saying that the ship sailed into the storm was because some news media reported it that way. If they didn't sail into the storm, then it seems like the captain could have chosen to keep a safer distance from the storm. I wonder if other cruise ships arrived at the port that same day and whether they had the same experience or if they sailed at a safer distance. Just because the ship didn't sink, doesn't mean the passengers weren't put through a horrible experience.

We were on the dawn in September captain went all the way up to Nova Scotia to avoid storm . We still had bumpy ride but could’ve been worse .cant believe captain went through it!

We were on this cruise too. We really didn't find it very bumpy at all except for a couple of hours one afternoon on the way back. And we had a 93 year old in wheel chair and walker. It was a very good cruise.

Many people have mentioned full refunds or not, but really, a cruise is not unlike any other product which any company is selling. Pretty simple.

1) Determine what is being sold here. Go to the Norwegian web site, look at the pamphlets, and guess what? THAT is what they are selling. Days in the spa, evening romantic diners, swimming in the pool, going to the casino, etc. That is the product people are buying because that is what is being sold.

2) Determine which days customers received what was being sold and what days they didn't. This is fairly cut-and-dry. If Norwegian wants to put a disclaimer in about storms, people being confined to their rooms, and services being cancelled because of these storms, then this needs to be clearly conveyed. I do not see this mentioned in the Norwegian advertisements, so this tells me this is not acceptable during a cruise.

3) Finally simple math calculates the refund. If 3 days of a 10 day cruise are not as promised, then customers need to get 30% of what they paid back in some way, maybe on-board credit.

This is not rocket science here. So should these people get 100% of their cruise back? I don't think so because most of the cruise was fine, but was it all as advertised? Nope. This system is not perfect, but it would go a long way at making happy customers, or I should at least say happier customers.

Its a simple matter of standing behind the products you sell. Was the storm Norweigian's fault? Of course not. You buy a TV from Walmart, turn it on and discover it doesn't work? Was that Walmart's fault? Likely no, but they stand behind their products. They don't say tough, TV's may be broken. They make it right, and Norwegian needs to as well.

The guy who interviewed himself already turned down an offer of $500 per person according to another "exclusive" interview he did. He's also used twitter to disparage NCL, telling people to cruise RCL instead and retweeting more inflammatory tweets. $500 per person is generous. I'd be telling him he can have the offer only as long as he never sets foot on one of their ships again.
