Is the Triumph that bad?

It's a horrible and outdated ship. Stains all over the carpets, cracked tiles, rust all over the ship, my bathroom toilet had a permanent black stain that wouldn't come off, nightstand door was cracked, and the ship is just plain worn down! Then again, most of Carnival's ships are either like that or failing CDC inspections.

If this kid actually cruised carnival he’d see just of ridiculous his post are. But then again some people are hopeless.

OP I went through the same thought process last year after I booked a 5 day on the Elation. I could hardly find any positives on it and was concerned. Turns out we had a great time and booked the exact same cruise for this upcoming March. She has since been updated through dry dock, but honestly that wouldn't have mattered as I wouldn't have hesitated to book again as I did. You said it in your first sentence, the cruise is all about what you make it.

That’s funny!!

What isn’t funny is that Carnival will continue to sail these outdated and, in some cases, ragged ships as long as the short cruise market is willing to pay their hard earned cash for them. The clientele is skewed towards the younger party crowd who isn’t very particular about the experience as long as the ship doesn’t run out of alcohol

We are doing a back to back starting March 26th. We sailed the Triumph several years ago and enjoyed it. Like others I'm concerned about the CDC inspection since it was the worst in Carnival ships in 10 years. That being said, I too feel that because of that, heads rolled and that hopefully they moved some better supervision to the kitchen services. I'm not concerned about the worn carpet etc. I'm a bit worn myself lol! In November we sailed the Dream and they had new mattresses and they were good. Because we drive to the port we bring along a memory foam pad to make the bed more comfy. (All 5 cruises on NCL, we had terrible beds.... but the last time we sailed with them was 2011.

We sailed her February 2017. It was certainly not my favorite ship and I probably wouldn't sail her again(maybe after dry dock, but not likely). That being said...a bad day on a boat is better than a good day at work. We had a great time despite some issues with the ship, staff, and other guests.

We've sailed 16 times on Carnival on 11 different ships. The Triumph is my least favorite.

Just cruised on Triumph January 6, and had a good time. Yes she is older but the crew keep her clean. The food was good, and the crew were helpful, and smiling. This was my first time on Carnival, I usually go NCL. I enjoyed it enough that I am ready to try the Dream next, I would certainly sail the Triumph again. I think some people aren’t happy unless they can complain. Go and enjoy yourself.

What would turn you off from the Carnival forum section on Cruise Critic forever?

Can we petition CC to set up some new special boards entitled thusly?

That is absolutely the most ludicrious adage in the cruising universe. You pay the cruise line to feed you and fun you. If you're having to work at having a good time, you got ripped off.

And if you are low class enough and foolish enough to enjoy anything less than someone else’s idea of perfection, you will receive numerous judgmental and even angry replies. The point is, if you are the kind of person who enjoys travel even when it’s not 5 Star, or heck let’s face it, 2 Star, you might enjoy an old Carnival rust bucket. I am one of these filthy low class slobs. I fully understand we offend the senses and sensibilities of smarter, richer, more refined people. Thank God in Heaven there are a couple of cruise lines that allow our kind to board since we don’t know anything about the finer things in life.

We just cruised Triumph January 6th and had a fantastic cruise. Compared to the Splendor and Elation, we found the "entertainment areas" to be much better on this ship. Our 20 year old enjoyed the dance club until the wee hours every morning, there were people in the piano bar and most of the clubs/lounges we went into and were able to find live music to listen to after late dinner. The late night comedy shows were fantastic. We have taken multiple cruises where the ship seems to shut down after late dinner - closed or empty dance clubs and bars, etc., so we highly enjoyed this trip and have this same cruise booked for next January with eight other couples.

  • 2 weeks later...

After my first cruise on the Dream last year, I came off the ship so enthusiastic I signed up immediately for the Triumph in February. 2 weeks and counting. The first thing I read about my Dream cruise was a review about how horrible it was. Shock. What? The Triumph is going to have to be gosh awful bad to be as bad as the Dream was Good.

I have considered the bad reviews and read many of them and I have also read the good ones. I figure each ship has its own character and crew and staff. That I'll find similar food and differences. That my room will not be the same. That the ports will differ. That the steward will, however, still be so nice it will stun me. Because I'm not going on this cruise to look for flaws --- I'm going on this cruise to get away from my routine regular life which involves lots of email, meetings, schedules, planning -- no stewards or Guys or Blue Iguanas.

I checked and the Triumph has Guys, Blue Iguanas, and people who make the beds up and bring room service. Not to mention Mexico and sunshine in February. Sail on.

I was on the triumph for Christmas 2017. It was clean, but older rooms. The casino staff was great. The food was good.

New Orleans has red light cameras that also detect speed. I got a $110 speeding ticket in the mail a few weeks after the cruise.

I'm sure you have a wonderful time. While we've never sailed Triumph, 'our' ship was Destiny and we loved her. Then when they remade her into Sunshine, we loved her even more. Hoping your experience with Triumph now and a couple years from now will be the same. :)

I have sailed on both the Triumph (July 2016) and Liberty (May 2017) and would chose Triumph any day over Liberty. Family felt the same way! We love the Triumph and will be sailing her again September 2019! Leave on the Dream in 35 days! Can't wait!!!!!

You will love the Dream, I was on the Dream in 2013 and would definitely not hesitate to book another trip on her. Have fun!!
