Question about future cruise credit?

I was reading that you can buy future cruise credit on the ship. I was reading about it but I'm still not sure I understand, how many can you buy? Do they give you onboard credit for each one you buy? How many can you use at one time?

We bought 2 cruise next certificates when we were on Norwegian last year. Does Princess future cruise program kind of work that same way?

TIA

You can use one per passenger per cruise. As it counts as your deposit.

A limit of 1,000,000 per passenger is set by Princess, but I've never seen it in print. ;p

The practical limit is around 100 per passenger as the purchase price will be refunded to you after two years(If you don't extend the deadline)

Never been on NCL, so can't speak about differences/similarities. That being said, I've bought a LOT of Future Cruise Deposits on Princess.

You can buy as many as you want while you're on the ship.

Each FCD cost's $100. Be sure to buy one for each of you (unless you sail solo). All passengers who buy a FCD must be on the ship.

When you "cash" the FCD in during the booking process, you'll receive OBC that varies by the length of the cruise. The OBC ranges from $15 to $150 depending on the length of the cruise and category of cabin that you book.

You can use as many as you want at one time, BUT you'll only get OBC for one.

The FCD is refundable (unless you use it for a non-refundable deposit and cancel the cruise) and will be automatically refunded if not used within 2 years. You can request a 2 year extension.

I've never seen a downside to FCC (or their equivalent) on any line we've cruised. Worst case' date=' you get your money refunded if you don't book another cruise. Best case, you get a good benefit from the line.[/quote']

RCI does not give the money back so it is use it or lose it.

FYI..You can buy some after your cruise with a limited time period, with a smaller amount of OBC.

Make sure you understand FCD cover your next cruise deposit and give you OBC on your next cruise , as not all travel agents understand this!

We changed from booking directly with Princess to a large , high street, worldwide, travel agent as their price was £500 per person cheaper, but the clerk had to phone Princess about using the FCD. Sad to say she was meant to be a cruise specialist !!

With Carnival's previous program, they did not refund the money after they expired. We purchased two of theirs on a cruise six years ago. When I called to see about the money after we decided we weren't sailing on them again anytime soon, they said the certificates had expired and we would not receive a refund like Princess sends automatically. While there's no refund and no onboard credit benefit left to those expired certificates, if we do decide to sail again, we can use the amount we paid for the certificates against our cruise fare.
