iloveislands24 Posted March 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2018 I have what may be a silly question. We booked our cruise around Valentine's day, and received a free gift bottle of wine. Do we need to bring a corkscrew with us on the cruise? Or is that something our cabin steward can bring to us for the purpose of opening the bottle? We won't be bringing any wine with us, so we would only need the corkscrew once. So I'm kind of hoping that's something we won't need to worry about packing. Thanks! delaware32 Posted March 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2018 Just ask your cabin steward . He will provide one .
mjkacmom Posted March 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2018 It’s sparkling wine, you pop the top.

It is probably a screw top anyway, but you wouldn't have any problem have a cork screw delivered to your room.
iloveislands24 Posted March 23, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted March 23, 2018 Okay, perfect - thanks so much everyone for your help! A screw top would be perfect, but good to know we could probably get a corkscrew if needed.

Cruisercl Posted March 23, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 23, 2018 When you get/order a bottle of wine for your cabin (not the sparkling wine for Latitudes members) a corkscrew comes with the bottle so you open it at your leisure. I believe it is yours to keep as a souvenir. I can't remember if they automatically give you wine glasses. Cheers!

iloveislands24 Posted March 26, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted March 26, 2018 Wonderful, thanks for the added tips! Getting wine glasses to use for it would be nice. :)
casofilia Posted March 26, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 26, 2018 We have had wine comped by senior officers while on board and it has always been screw topped. There has never been a problem getting wine glasses from the steward.
Georgie562 Posted March 26, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 26, 2018 Make sure they don't try charging you a corkage fee as part of their Nickel and Dimeing It will be absurd if they do as the bottle is part of a promotion.
casofilia Posted March 26, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 26, 2018 ...corkage fee .... That is charged on wine YOU carry on board at the time YOU carry it on board.

I have never had that happen when I received/bought wine in the cabin and we usually order some to have in our cabin when we cruise NCL. Have you had that happen when you cruise on NCL and that is why you are giving the OP a heads-up? Cheers!

Have you had that happen when you cruise on NCL and that is why you are giving the OP a heads-up? Cheers! Yes that is correct. I was given a bottle from the Casino and when I took it to dinner that night for consumption, the drink server said I would have to be charged a corkage fee. I explained that it was a complimentary bottle from the Casino and that I was not going to pay any fee. I then proceeded to ask to speak with the Maitre'd and all of a sudden there was no fee. doones2 Posted March 27, 2018 #15 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Someone mentioned latitudes members get a bottle of bubbly in their cabin. Is this something new?
casofilia Posted March 27, 2018 #16 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Someone mentioned latitudes members get a bottle of bubbly in their cabin. Is this something new? Relatively; when they change the "perks" for Latitudes in Feb 2017 what was a perk for Gold and above was applied to everyone. Look at https://www.ncl.com/nz/en/shorex/225902259/latitudes#!#tab-rewards-3 for all the perks.

casofilia Posted March 27, 2018 #18 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Has anyone been able to get it switched to a white or red wine (no bubbles)? Thanks I did once on a B2B at the end of last year but it was a special favour and I was told it was no longer allowed. It used to be common but I am sure it has been stopped completely. That stuff is so cheap (bad) that it costs too much to NCL to exchange for even the cheapest normal wine. We drink it 50:50 with apple juice!!
