Yes you can just ask that they not open the beer at the bar and no the refrigerators are actually not very cold at all. Why not get a bucket it’s cheaper.

As long as you are not in the beverage package, you can bring any drinks back to your room. We usually get the bucket of beer special, drink one and bring the rest back in the bucket of ice. We ask the room attendant to replenish the ice daily. The refrigerators in the room do not keep drinks cold, even when you have the preloaded drinks removed so you have room. The ice bucket is the only way to keep drinks cold. Make sure you pack a bottle opener!

In your situation, I would order the "bucket of beer" as there is a bit of a deal when you get it. You can ask that the beers not be opened and yes, you can certainly take them back to the cabin.

You could take them in the bucket and have the ice replenished if you want.

The mini fridge will keep them cool but if you want the beers really cold, you can use the bucket.

The mini fridge has been cold enough for DH on our cruises ;)

After numerous discussions here on the HAL Forum, I measured my minibar on several cruises with an infrared thermometer and discovered that items stored at the back of the top shelf were 43 degrees and items stored in the door were 47 degrees. You will have to decide if those temps are good enough for whatever you store in the minibar.

So if you have the signature drink pkg, you cannot get an unopened beer at a bar? Or a can of soda? Is the soda served by the glass (ie on tap). Can you use a beverage card for this? Can you use a beverage card for mini bar in your cabin? We have the sbp and TA giving us a $50 beverage card. We are not wine drinkers so trying to figure out what we can do with this. Any suggestions?

Of course if you have the Signature package you can request an unopened beer and a can of soda.

Soda should be served by the can. Just ask but it has always been served by the can in our experience unless you had the soda card.

You can use the beverage card for anything - a can of soda, a beer, a glass of wine, a bottle of wine, whatever.

BUT you CANNOT use it for the mini bar.

Or where you go to get off the ship and pick up a bottle of water. Or at HMC.

Beverage cards and Signature packages can only be used where there is access to the ship's computer (most public spaces have access to the bars).

Hope this helps.

please explain the mini bar. You pay separately if you use it versus using your drink card at the bar?

We have been to resorts where the liquor in the room is included.

Any drink you take from your mini bar is charged to your on board account. Not your beverage card or package.

Certainly we have been to resorts where liquor in the room is included too but that is not the case on HAL ;)

You can bring drinks back to your cabin even if you are on the beverage package. Just ask for unopened beer.

We routinely bring bottles of water back, even if we have the beverage package.

I had the beverage package and a couple times took a glass of wine from the bar back to my cabin. Not a problem.

Ha ha. Looks like we are all posting at the same time! At least our answers agree :)

Here's a beverage card question for you. Is there a name, number or any identification on a beverage card that connects it with you? We are getting one from our TA as a perk, but we already have the beverage pkg. from the Explore4. Can't see us using it at all. Don't drink wine to buy a bottle at supper or cabin. Will NEVER consume the maximum allowed drinks and everything we do drink is covered in allotted dollar value. We're thinking maybe we could trade them once onboard. Is that possible?

It is my understanding that if you have the SBP, you cannot drink those drinks in your cabin. Is that not informed?

Other than the person that rang up your drink and yourself, nobody has any way of knowing whether the drink in your hand was part of the package or individually bought. They all look the same. :)

If the beverage card has been ordered, it will have your name on it. Activiate it and, if you don't use it, you will be credited back whatever the value of it is.

You can use it to buy other people drinks as well.

I don't know of an ability to trade it, but the credit will basically give you OBC.

I read cabinluvin's question to ask whether the minibar drinks ("those drinks in your cabin") are included in the beverage package.

Minibar drinks aren't included in your package.

But I agree that you can buy a drink at a bar (package or not) and carry it anywhere on the ship, including your cabin.

Thanks Kazu. Not sure how we will get the beverage card as it is a perk from our travel agent. But you are saying that if we don't use it, the amount will be credited to our onboard account even if we didn't purchase it (it was a gift)? If that's the case, that's awesome!

Yes, it should be. Just make sure you take the card to a bar and present it with your room key so that it is activated. You don't have to use it but if it's not activated, there can be an issue getting it credited back to your account from what I have heard.

We buy beverage cards for our cruises (and had one gifted) & any unused portion was refunded the last night of the cruise.

The beverage card should arrive in your cabin on embarkation day.
