Waiting and hoping for the Upsell Fairy

We are getting close, and just received an email and I am looking for input here. We are sailing on the Westerdam. It will be my son & I. We currently are in a Verandah, Signature Suite & perfectly happy - they are offering Neptune Best Availiable - I don't know if that would be so great, for $199/PP USD, what if I get a bad location, and do we REALLY need all that space/ perks, as we are very casual folks. This is my "Bucket List" trip, so if seasoned travelers could chime in I would really appreciate it. We are doing Alaska Sea + Land :)

I sure hope you called!

I would call back pronto and see if they have an aft wrap available! That and breakfast in the pinnacle grill make it totally worth it!

I must be the only person in the world who hates being aft .. and that includes the aft wrap Suites.

Yuck !!!!

If you've booked something less than your ideal, and you are willing to pay a bit more to upgrade, you should not passively sit and wait for the "upgrade fairy" to tap you on the shoulder. You should figure out how much more you are willing to pay for how much of an upgrade - and then proactively and periodically contact the "upgrade fairly" yourself. Be ready to leap if something looks good - if it is a good deal, it is likely to evaporate quickly.

The big advantage in booking with HAL is that you get the email upsell offer directly. Sometimes this is not a big deal, but sometimes it makes all the difference.

On a very recent cruise (7 day) I was in a Vista suite. The Vistas and Neptunes had been "sold out" for months, so I did not not expect an upsell offer. Then 5 days prior to sailing I got the magical upsell offer. I IMMEDIATELY opened it, saw the price of $319 pp and called HAL at the number provided. I had the cabin within 5 minutes of getting the upsell email. I asked the agent how many cabins were available and his response was ONE! I guess it was a last minute cancellation as my HAL agent called just the day before and was told "nothing available".

Since the Vista cabins are so much smaller than the Neptunes, I was sure glad to get the upsell. Sometimes you just get lucky, but you do have to be prepared to move quickly on these offers as they can go fast.

Leave a $5 HAL casino chip under your pillow tonight, the upsell fairy loves casino chips. It works every time.

If you don't have a casino chip left over from you last cruise you can try an old room key cruise card from a previous HAL cruise but it's not a sure thing like the $5 casino chip.

Good Luck,

Paul

You are not alone ;).

I truly do not like aft cab ins. I much, by far prefer cabins along the sides and in my case, port is often my first choice and has been since we first started cruising.

I do not like watching t he wake. and seeing where we have been. i want to see where we are and are going. We had an aft cabin once on Princess and never again booked one.
