excitedofharpenden Posted June 7, 2018 #76 Share Posted June 7, 2018 Well if they put it up to show the England games, it won't be up for too long [emoji14][emoji14][emoji14] OK OK I know fans from here haven't been bothering the passport office too much lately......at least England is there (briefly) PS I’ve told my DH I will buy him a cruise if England win the World Cup LOL! Tell him I'll buy him one too. ;) Phil

lahore Posted June 8, 2018 #78 Share Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) Thank you Bonnie. Good to know that those of us who ran away from Princess MUTS can stay happily on Azamara in peace. Edited June 8, 2018 by lahore
Spursgirl Posted June 8, 2018 #79 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Thank you Bonnie. Good to know that those of us who ran away from Princess MUTS can stay happily on Azamara in peace. Think some people have lost the plot on these threads lately. Isn't disagreement healthy as long as it is expressed in a measured and polite way? Bobal Posted June 8, 2018 #81 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Here's my take on this - and I'm almost afraid to step into the fray since I feel I almost haven't earned enough Azamara points to have a say ;p Our first Azamara cruise was 4 years ago during the last World Cup. On that occasion we - along with other football fans - would gather to watch the games in the casino. We had a delightful young couple onboard who were significantly younger than most of us. One was Dutch and the other German and we loved their enthusiasm and supported their teams whenever they were playing and built up a great friendship group. Now, as Phil - and others - have pointed out the screens being used are pop-up and not available to be used during the day. I, along with many others, am very excited for the World Cup and love watching it by the pool on a big screen (we were onboard RC ships during the last two Euros). Since the matches will not be shown during the day time and the pool deck is barely occupied during the evenings I see no problem with them showing the games, indeed I'm sure there will be a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people. Believe it or not there are many many football fans - not least among the crew - who I am sure are very excited for it. It happens once every four years and lasts just a few weeks and I salute Azamara for showing the initiative in providing an opportunity to watch it on deck. It also frees up the casino bar for those who don't want football on in the background and there are other places to go onboard to get away from it on the few occasions it's being shown. Rare uktog Posted June 8, 2018 #82 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Gosh I remember four years ago :) Someone has just told me it is estimated 3.2 billion people watched the World Cup and 1 billion watched the final on TV. It is such a big event and when we were onboard last time (it was the last 16 by then including the epic Germany v Brazil semi) we too made friends and had so many laughs with both the other guests and the crew during the time onboard. The crew have lots of parties below stairs to mark the progress of various teams. I am really looking forward to that banter again and hopefully some nights on the pool deck following the progress of some teams.

I have no idea how the information on this thread can be interpreted that the screen will be used during the world cup. I doubt it. I sincerely hope it won’t. The screens have never been used for sports events. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rare uktog Posted June 9, 2018 #89 Share Posted June 9, 2018 I have no idea if it will be used or not however I was told when onboard that Journey because the two cruises were sold as World Cup cruises were looking at various ways to show the games. Time will tell! Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I actually think that is why they have the screens out and, unlike you, think some people will enjoy it. There's a silent majority out there who are happy for change and don't want everything to always be as it has before. It's only 4 weeks out of every 4 years - and will no doubt only happen on a few evenings when it won't clash with other events. Surely you don't begrudge the football fans the few games they will show? Edited June 9, 2018 by Bobal

I'd have no issue at all with them showing the World Cup football, even though I’m not a fan of it. However, if it interferes with me having my Long Island Iced Tea or Moscow Mule at the Pool Bar, there maybe trouble ahead.:D Phil

Grandma Cruising Posted June 9, 2018 #94 Share Posted June 9, 2018 Just been looking at my July cruise details on Voyage Planner and there’s an insert about the World Cup saying you can watch games in the Cabaret Lounge, in Spirits or in your stateroom. Situation could arise where the use of the Big Inflatable Mega Screen would be sensible. All depends on popularity of the event. Magnum60 Posted June 25, 2018 #98 Share Posted June 25, 2018 Watching competitive sports can be very exciting - if you like watching competitive sports. I watch competitive sports every now and then but when fixed or inflatable screened events trespass on deck space that belongs to all guests, guests who paid for an ocean cruise and not a drive in movie experience it might be time to draw a line. The small ship experience should be preserved and not turned into a poolside sports bar or MUTS venue like a mega ship. Want to catch the game? Simple. Take a six pack back to your cabin and watch the game on your TV. The outside deck space should be left to our fellow passengers. Let them enjoy the spectacle and sounds that Mother Nature provides every evening while they're at sea.
