No more Coffee Cards

Unbelievable! The whining over a $2.33 cappuccino after spending $$thousands for a cruise.

Lol exactly the "Accept Anything" attitude they are hoping for.

When will Princess learn to charge what they want in the fare and don't nickel and dime once onboard.

They do both, fares up way up, all they can see is short term profit

like giving bonuses to those employees who cut maintenance costs or save on waste disposal costs by pumping oily water into the sea using "magic pipes"

Like I said I am ashamed to be a stockholder who profits from these practices

Not everyone pays "$$thousands" for a cruise. The email I got from Princess yesterday has Alaska cruises at $35/day, so a daily cappuccino at $2.33 is 6.6% of the cruise fare, which is not exactly small potatoes.

We only occasionally drink the specialty coffees, so we save a coffee card from one cruise and use the extra punches on the next one. The new expiration date that was added retroactively means that we'll lose some punches on our existing card (which we paid for with actual money) since we won't be sailing again before they expire. A $15 or $20 loss is obviously not going to break us, but it leaves an unpleasant taste, and this new policy means that coffee cards are not a good buy for us any longer. We'll end up drinking less specialty coffee and Princess will make less money from us.

I certainly had an unpleasant taste in my mouth, when I booked a cruise on the sip & sail promo a year + out......

My siblings decided to come along so we had 4 cabins on Emerald deck in a row , I had my favorite E731 the aft mini with the extended balcony.

About 6 months before the cruise all the minis dropped 150. pp...plus OBC was given as a promo..I noticed the change and all my relatives took advantage of it ....

I stayed with my sip & sale promo...even though now in value it was a "BOGO" or less.

Why? because I wanted that 40% bottle wine discount that I could share with my siblings on a bottle or 2 or 3 every night at dinner.....but alas Princess changes the AIDP to the PDP in early November, my cruise is 3 weeks later discount down to 20%.

Just sayin':D

I love cruising and policies change..life goes on.......My first cruise was my honeymoon 34 years ago...I certainly have seen changes.

Unbelievable! The whining over a $2.33 cappuccino after spending $$thousands for a cruise. Again, we all must thank those who abused the system so that Princess had to restructure the "coffee card" benefit to protect others.

You will still be able to purchase multiple cups on one "card" and refill or get a new "card" when it runs out.

If you don't like the rules, don't cruise. Simple.

+1000. The whining over a cup of coffee coupon gathering dust in ones junk drawer. I’ll buy one a cup if they promise not to open a new thread. I can’t even imagine the dinner conversation on this one at TD

And this pretty much sums up why Princess is looking for a new demographic with new venues, specialty dining, and onboard spending. It has to to stay profitable. They want the passenger buying the drink package, at the casino, at Gastropub and Share; where the profit is, rather than the one doing an analysis on their coffee cost as a percentage of daily fare cost.

That's hardly the answer to the problem is it?

I might as well sell them in fact as I get no benefit from them anymore as the class of fare I now book does not attract any OBC

I absolutely agree, anyway this is just one more pennypinching reason why Princess is no longer my first choice for cruises,

why Princess don't just have decent free regular coffee on all their ships like almost every other line I do not know.

Well actually I do know, they are too mean and nickel and diming to do it................. its very shortsighted of them, no way to encourage passenger loyalty, they get your money and then provide as little for it as they possibly can

And after 71 cruises on Princess I think I am qualified to comment, its going downhill big time

I am ashamed to be a stockholder in the company which owns Princess

Agree:mad::mad:

Wonder if a ‘coffee card donation’ thread should be started for people wanting to ‘pay it forward’ for partially used old cards that will expire before they cruise again? I certainly wouldn’t say ‘no’. :)

I was wondering when reality and reason were going to show themselves on this board. I thought for a moment, I was the only one. THANK YOU.

While I am guilty as charged for having actually sold ALL of my Elite benefit-sourced coffee cards, I applaud Princess for taking this decision.

It is insane to even think that any kind of package (coffee or otherwise) purchased on one cruise can carry on to another cruise.

Just plain insane and definitely a poor business idea.

Yeah you're right! I remember that one Christmas I received (from my employer at the time) a $150 gift card to a national restaurant chain…I used it once for $41.89 (lovely dinner) and then threw the card away.

I mean, it's only right, right? How DARE a customer think that they can spend X amount of dollars on a product and expect to use it in multiple locations of the same operation….shocking! SHOCKING I tell you!! :D

The benefit I referred to is the stockholder OBC.

And I have received a lot of it over the years, many times the original cost of the stock. But not now due to my fare class.

I'm curious. What fare class isn't eligible for stockholder OBC? I don't recall ever seeing any restrictions of that nature.

No matter what date is on your card. It seems to me you would be entitled to the 15 punches. They are basically a prepaid credit card. And should be honored. Doesn't matter who uses it.

I wish Princess could explain why they chose to have expiration dates on the already issued undated cards. It won't cost them much to just let them be useful until they are used up. Even if it's 10 + years down the road, the load won't be all that great anyway.

I just got off the phone with customer relations..

I had asked if the "coffee card" part was on one spouses card, could the other take the card and get coffee....the answer....NO

Actually the program (what she said) rolls out tomorrow across the fleet.

I just mentioned that if one spouse had the "coffee card" on their "side" and the other wants a coffee, then, If the one with the coffee side, needed to stop what they were doing (pool, spa, lecture, theater, casino) and go get the coffee. I told her that it sounded inconvenient, she agreed and said "sorry"

AND IF/WHEN you purchased the card, and designated who should get the card, and you change your mind, she said you would have to cancel the purchase and repurchase with the new person....(this is obviously before the 3 day window)....really? Then she said they "might" be able to transfer the coffee to the other person on board, but she wasn't sure....

This sounds like a big hassle to me...maybe I will just give up paid coffee for the "free" stuff in the dining room

Any Canadian cruisers out there that might want to bring a Tim Hortons....

For example Employee, Friends and Family, or Interline.

Its on a "need to know" basis for those who are entitled.

Guess you aren't entitled and that's why you won't have seen it.

Fares are low but no OBC. And offered only on certain cruises.

Usually but not always works out cheaper overall, often considerably cheaper on longer cruises, and is usually offered on cruises which don't sell well for some reason, like length, itinerary, repositioning, short notice, or unpopular date like just before Christmas.

Better to fill a cabin at a low price than have it go empty.

2 thumbs up..............I concur! (y)(y)NO OBCs of any kind but the HUGE SAVINGS far outweigh any other kind of obc's combined, and then some! PLUS, you still get ALL the onboard Elite benefits.

Did you really think Princess corporate was going to say that you could use someone else's Cruise Card for a transaction? I'm sure they know it happens on the ship -- husband and wife with unlimited drink package, one of them brings both cards to the bar and gets two drinks, for example -- but they're not going to officially tell you that's allowed.
