What time did you get to the port for embarkation?

And how would you rate that experience?

(thanks for taking time for questions/review)

So, at this point I must mention that I am in the Yacht Club, so my embarkation experience was a bit different. I can tell you more about that, if you’re interested, of course.

I have friends in a regular balcony cabin, though. They arrived at about 11, their boarding number was 1, and they got to board almost immediately.

For YC, what time did you arrive at port? (We'll be in YC on Seaside in January. Our first time with MSC.)

What are your impressions so far of YC? Happy with your room?

Ok. This is my first time in the YC so I cannot compare to other YC experiences as other people can. I was on the Divina in a Fantastica Balcony cabin last year so that’s it for comparison.

Embarkation was a bit different than expected and not as quick or smooth as I thought it would be. We went to the tent where someone took our luggage and then asked us to wait there for a butler. There were probably about ten other persons already waiting. This was a bit strange, at least to me.

After a few minutes a butler came and escorted our by now fairly sizable group through security. As usual, I picked the slow lane. My son and I watched the butler disappear up the escalator with the rest of the group. I managed to catch his eye as he was riding up and, to his credit, he did return and meet us at the top of the escalator.

He escorted us to the waiting area, took our passports, and people started working on the paperwork.

Meanwhile, we sat and drank champagne and ate little hors d‘oevre. Drinks available were champagne, water, and some cherry juice or something like that. Snacks were pralines, cookies, and brownies.

After maybe 10 minutes, we were called to the desk, and given our boarding supplies. We were told to go to any of the butlers and be escorted to the ship.

I found a butler who told me to sit somewhere and we would be escorted to the ship once a larger group was ready.

Okay, we sat and drank, and waited. After a few minutes, the y were ready. Right outside the lounge was the embarkation photo booth and the butler hurriedly asked if we wanted to have a photo taken. Weirdly, I didn’t even have an opportunity to respond in the affirmative before he turned and walked ahead for us to meet another butler who would then escort us to the ship. No embarkation photos then, I guess...

We were taken to the YC where we waited in line for two people to check us all in. I used the time to register my credit card real quick but of the course one desk libe turned into two and now we had to wait even longer. Well, when it was our turn, we were told out stateroom wasn’t ready yet. The butler who had escorted us up had already told us she was also the butler assigned to our cabin and to she would give us a tour after we checked in. However, she was busy talking to other passengers, so we just went to the topsail lounge and waited there.

By then, it was already 1 pm; we had arrived at 11:30 am.

We were comfortable and attended to mist of the time, of course, but I still think it took way too long and seemed inefficient.

I mean I am definitely not unhappy about it but somewhat surprised perhaps.

The cabin is large in my opinion. Other YC passengers thought it was small, not sure why but in my opinion it is large.

We have a deluxe suite.

The balcony is large as well. It would greatly improve with a lounger. Why there are just two small chairs and a footstool I don’t know. What’s the purpose of a large balcony then?

I love sitting on my balcony but I was thinking that for me, an inside cabin would have been enough because the public YC areas are so quiet and comfortable.

The shower is absolutely wonderful!

I love it.

Our experience was different. Our butler/escort actually stuck his arm out to stop the "general boarding" photo line and allowed us to take a picture. We just stepped in-front of whomever was supposed to be next, took our photo ($9.99 on the ship, $7.99 online), and were on our way. I actually bought the photo after we returned home.

This is why I asked. I've read different experiences, and even viewed YouTube videos of people boarding Seaside YC where it seems like it went perfectly without a hitch.

One footstool for 2 chairs?

From photos I've seen, the shower does look really nice. I know a lot of people prefer tubs in suites on other lines, but I've never been a fan of stepping in and out of them. Was really happy to see all the YC rooms have showers.

I am solo in an inside YC. So glad to hear about the nice places I can go in YC with quiet and comfort - and views! Thanks.

*******

Happy to hear you liked the shower.

I HATE large balconies where all you get in the way of furniture is two tiny chairs and perhaps a footstool and/or a little table. Put a lounge chair there!

Has anyone asked for a lounger and been told "no"?

If they will fit (and the guest wants one), either the steward or the butler should make it happen. I know from experience that NCL stewards will put one on any balcony that is large enough for one (not all are large enough, though).

Not on MSC.

However, on Celebrity you have to book a Conceirge cabin or better to get a footstool.

I've heard that on Princess loungers are considered fire hazards.

I don't believe you can get a lounger on Royal Caribbean's Oasis Class "Large Balconies" If you could then why would some passengers resort to carrying them down from the pool deck in the dead of night?

Well, the royals have loungers. So I don’t think they are considered fire hazards here. I admit I haven’t ASKED for one but honestly, my question remains: Why have a large balcony if you cannot use it? Why not put one lounger on every YC balcony. Two wouldn’t fit but one plus the chairs easily. Or put a real table on the balcony so that people can dine there comfortably.

Just to clarify - if you have a balcony in the YC and specifically ask for a lounger - that request will be denied?? Seems odd. Also, have heard by now of quite a few YC boarding incidents plagued with confusion - really poor way to start as the old saying goes - you never get a second chance to make a first impression - hope MSC is listening!

I don’t know whether I would’ve been denied a lounger. I did NOT ask for one.

The first impression was fine! I did not make it sound like embarkation was a bad experience - just not as efficient as expected.

You would not be happy with the YC inside room because it has a very small shower.

That you will have, Yc is wonderful and if you are a pool person there are always padded loungers available.
