OMG!!! Another cutback!!! I'm devastated (JK)!

You're right. Perhaps "bashing" was too strong a term and I could have said it better. My apologies to the OP. The fact remains though the OP spoke of "complainers." That is a generalization and a negative one at that. The things that the OP doesn't consider cutbacks are all things they care nothing about. In my mind, the biggest difference between a "complainer" and a "cheerleader" , for lack of a better term (not crazy about the word cheerleader either, it just works well here for sake of comparison), is that the complainer has had something go bye bye that was meaningful to them, while the cheerleader hasn't... yet. I didn't state it well, but my whole point was that it is unfair to lump everyone who has ever lamented a CCL cutback into a group called "complainers." Yes, there are those here that have never spoken a positive word about Carnival. I get that. But every person that has ever complained about something Carnival has changed or taken away is not necessarily a habitual complainer or hater. I found it ironic that the OP was asking for positves after having negatively labled a group "complainers." I don't like the whole concept of putting people into "groups" without their consent. Yes there are legitimate "groups" of people with a label. These are generally positive and the people in them gladly accept the label. I don't see calling folks complainers as a positive, for reasons I've already explained.

My apologies if I offended anyone. Yes, I am a "cheerleader" type of personality. In fact, in our house it's called the "Tigger or Eeyore Personality". I always try to find the best in any situation. For me, it makes life a little easier;). It definitely wasn't my intention to group anyone. I just see so many complaints on this site and I just don't get it. I feel so fortunate to be able to go somewhere and have a group of wonderful people take care of me while I lounge around and do nothing. I appreciate it even more when I go to countries where the people are much less fortunate and I see how good I have it.

So, with that said... I do apologize if I offended any one. I really wanted to try to make this a positive post. That's the bad thing about posts - sometimes the intent can be misinterpreted.

Nice recovery I am a go with the flow person but there are certain things I really like that are no longer part of the cruise experience So while I am not swearing off Carnival it is a little less fun. I never eat dinner on the lido deck but understand that some folks hate the dining room. I love trivia games and dislike sitting in the sun. I really, really miss the horse races but understand some folks thought them childish Don't understand why I can't say what I like or dislike without being labeled either a cheerleader or a complainer.
Thanks. Yes, most of us who have been with Carnival for a while have seen things we enjoyed and looked forward to take the big dirt nap. Thing is, I still love Carnival. I just don't love every single thing they do, nor will I ignore those things for the sake of appearing positive. The silver lining is, yes, they HAVE added some nice things. I recognize that and applaud it. They have also added some things that in no universe is an upgrade, though some see it that way. And that's fine too, I guess. Happy cruising! :)

No problem at all. And I appreciate your graciousness. I owe you an apology as well... a direct one. I already apologized to you while responding to another poster. Now I am doing so directly.

Here's the thing. I've seen lots of threads started here similar to yours. I know the intention is good in most cases and was obviously meant that way by you. Not all are though. And since I occasionally have griped a bit about some changes CCL has made I might be interpreted as a "complainer" by some. I don't see it that way though. I really do love most things about Carnival. If I didn't I wouldn't have continued cruising with them for the past fourteen years. I don't love every single thing they do though and I sometimes speak up about it. I also speak up about the good things they do.

I'm neither an Eeyore, nor a Pollyanna, imho. I try to be objective.

I do appreciate your apology, though I'm not sure it is warranted. I just wanted to make a point and wasn't really personally offended all that much. So carry on. I should have kept my opinion to myself in the case of this thread.:) Happy cruising!

Here are two true upgrades that I have not seen mentioned: You no longer have to take your life jackets to muster drill and the digital karaoke is much better than the old "limited" cd's that always got misplaced. At least these are upgrades to me.:D

Ehh... I’d prefer bringing the life jackets to the muster drill. It helps ensure the proper number of life jackets are provided in the room (I was missing one recently on Princess) and gives you the opportunity to make sure the straps are working properly. Believe it or not, the general public has a lot of difficulty putting on the life jackets.

Thank you! I will say one thing... I think we're both showing our age talking about Eeyores and Pollyanna's LOL! The younger ones might not get the reference. ;p No apology necessary. Happy cruising to you as well!

Oh my gosh!! Totally forgot about having to do that! Have to admit I'm glad we don't have to. I would always crack up looking at everyone in their jackets. Of course, I wouldn't be laughing if it was a real emergency:rolleyes:!

Our most recent cruise was the Regal Princess Transatlantic. We crossed the entire ocean and noticed when packing on the last night of the cruise that we were missing a life jacket. Luckily there wasn’t a real emergency but had we been required to bring our life jackets to the muster drill (the procedure changed just a few months prior), this would have been discovered much sooner. It only makes me wonder how long the stateroom had been missing one.

LOL indeed. As I was typing "Pollyanna," I was wondering if anyone would know who that was. I tried to think of a modern equivalent, but couldn't. I'm glad you got it at least, that's the important thing.

Now, in keeping with the spirit of your thread, some positive notes. I LOVE what others call the "new" Carnival pizza. I have defended it multiple time here on CCL. I also enjoy Guys and "Blue Iguana." I'm also pleased the cabin fridge is empty now when you move in. Embarkation is MUCH improved.:)

They say in muster that the cabins have an adequate amount of life jackets and if not let them know.

We sail on the Paradise quite often (3 times this year so far) and was so glad to see after its dry dock this year that Guy's and the Blue Iguana Cantina had been added. Also, the Red Frog Pub. They also added a slew of Junior Suite cabins on Deck 14. The casino was rearranged for a better traffic flow and new slots were added. Can't wait to sail on her again in Nov.

I just want to say I'm jealous of your cruise history. 5 in 2018?? nice. you're slacking off this year. lol.

  • 4 weeks later...

From the perspective of someone who just started cruising:

Serenity Deck.

I love having a nice lounging area where you can get away from kids. I can't imagine being on a ship where the only place to get away from kids is the stateroom. I'd go CRAZY.

I think the OP misunderstood. Someone had sent John a letter saying they should get rid of the ship on a stick.Cause "no one" likes them. John did do a poll about rather they should keep them or not. But said there is no plans to do away with the ship on a stick. And of course "no one" likes them yet 85+% of those voting said to keep the ship on a stick.

I agree much more options now then there was back in the early 90’s. I remember my first cruise on the festivale. Basically lido, main dining room and room service. The only thing that I think was better was the food in the dining room was delicious I remember having stuffed crab soooo good and my waiter back then brought me two every night although it wasn’t on the menu every night it was just because I liked it the first night. Also the service in the dining room was excellent every night he would move my chair to for me to sit and put the napkin on my lap just little things like that made it more special

Yes, you're right. It was a misunderstanding. Thanks!

On one of my first cruises, my husband was injured the first three days (dog scratched his cornea). He was miserable and was wearing a huge eye patch - very painful. When he didn't show for dinner the second night our waiter had someone deliver his meal to him in the room after late dining was over. Now that's customer service. :)

When I first cruised 9 years ago the decks only seemed to have loungers which I’m not a fan of. I love all the new clam shells and different types of seating now available.

I like that the dining rooms now have varied seating arrangements and not just big tables for 8-10. We enjoy meeting new people but don’t always want to be at a table for so many.

Also love the alchemy bar. We don’t drink much on a cruise, but really enjoy watching them make drinks and trying something new or different.

I had to post after hearing about J. Heald saying that they are going to stop giving out the "ship on a stick". I haven't seen any posts yet (but I have to admit, I didn't look too hard;p).

It got me to thinking about all the people who are constantly complaining about the cutbacks. I don't know about ya'll, but I can live without the chocolates, table cloths, "ships/stick" etc. The one thing I never see mentioned is all the upgrades that have been done.

So with that said.... how about a positive post for once! :D

Name your favorite upgrade you've seen on the ships. I'll start it off ..... Guys Burgers!!!! Absolutely love them!!

BIGGEST laugh of all is your thread and how you began it.....with a COMPLAINT that you profess you don't care about but will bring out all those who possibly do care about ANOTHER cut back. So why post this at all??? And then pretend to be a 'positive' poster???......LOL!!!

??Really? Every person, reviewer etc I have ever read show them to be the best at sea. Which line has better for free??

Limited hours, limited menu, and resulted in a change to food provided late at night. I prefer the old menu at the grill where it had additional items such as hot dogs, grilled chicken, steaks sandwiches, chicken fingers and even a cheese sauce for nachos and fries.

Regarding which line has better burgers for free, I'm perfectly content with the included burgers at the grill on Princess.

The old burgers sucked. There is no chance I would want them over Guy's. I wouldn't mind the additional options though.
