Krazy Kruizers Posted August 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 11, 2018 Be out on a deck and see the view as you approach the dock. Great view of El Moro Castle.
OlsSalt Posted August 11, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 11, 2018 This port offers beautiful sunrise views - agree, try to see it coming into port as early as you can. There are those magic few moments when the light is just right at sunrise and sunset. Malta (Valetta) is another one of those early rise ports than just cannot be missed in the early arrival. tennispretzel Posted August 11, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 11, 2018 A little off topic, but if you bring your National Parks card, you can get into the fort for free! We enjoyed that walk and the views from there.
DaveOKC Posted August 11, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2018 HOw to get aroeund Old SAn Juan for free>https://www.touroldsanjuan.com/trolley-map/ Great option. We took the green route to the forts. One tip - walk past the stop closest to the ship and get on at point #13 on the map (if there is a line at stop #14 which is normal on cruise days). Its about 2 blocks away. The trolley fills up very quickly and might even be full by the time it gets to #14..
sail7seas Posted August 11, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 11, 2018 The ships dock in the center of old San Juan, c ross the street to all the shopping, restaurants forts etc. We loved all our many visits to Old San Juan. I have not been since last year's very bad hurricane.
Sea Viewer Posted August 11, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 11, 2018 We were in San Juan this week. We had a great time . Old San Juan is pretty much back to pre hurricane status and everyone was very friendly. Sent from my SM-T230NU using Tapatalk

Rare POA1 Posted August 11, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 11, 2018 If you don't feel like walking up hill, or if it's a hot day, there is a free park service shuttle that will take you up to the two fortes, San Cristobal and El Morro. That way your walk is downhill.
SetAnOpenCourse Posted August 12, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 12, 2018 We usually walk to the fort. Just walk uphill and make various lefts, till the fort appears. Always a slightly new look this way. At the fort we don’t enter, we just enjoy the view of the breakers and the local kids running around, sometimes with kites. We take the trolley back, but sometimes get off it early to enjoy a walk near the bay, on a wide sidewalk that leads to some museum (I think; we just go fo the nice shady walkway). My favorite port thus far on Caribbean cruises.
