sail7seas Posted September 17, 2018 #52 Share Posted September 17, 2018 (edited) Congratulations! The Noordam (let's just call it[u "our Noordam")[u] was our first cruise. For the record, it was my wife's idea and I acquiesced because we sailed out of New Orleans. I was pretty sure that I'd hate it. NO NO,.. NO CAN Happen. Cannot Do. Turns out that she was wise and I am lucky to have her. We're still cruising decades later. NO Way NO, sorry , I CANNOT ca LL anyfhing but the current ship, 'ouR nOOrDAM " aBsolutely not. [/[b[] OUR CURRENT noordam is my dhs ' and MY - ship As long as she sails, she will be my and my d h's ship OUR Noordam . Several l Very senior persons in HAL offFices and Mr. Arison (Carnival Corp), [TOLD Us] and I am quite sure they maenti t. That is OUR Noordam. :) Edited September 17, 2018 by sail7seas
Rare Copper10-8 Posted September 17, 2018 #53 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Indeed, That ship was he first hAL ship on (in) ) which we cruised. Whomever here remembesr Capfain JACK knowsws NOORdAM iIIWAS hIS SHIP. :) Her f vibrations and all. :) Panda may remember whih she sailed if she looks at a photo of each They are so very different. . Noordam III's "take-out" captain was a gentleman by the name of Captain Hans “Eul” Eulderink. He also took out the first and the last of the "S"-class ships; Statendam and Veendam. Captain Jean "Jack" van Coevorden, who spoke fluent Bahasa onboard, was the take out captain for the third "S" Ryndam, the third "R" Zaandam and the first "Vista" Zuiderdam. I'm sure he also had command of Noordam III in his long and illustrious career
Rare Copper10-8 Posted September 17, 2018 #54 Share Posted September 17, 2018 My first HAL cruise was on the 'old' Noordam but I don't remember the year. I think she was Noorcam IV? And current one is Noodam V Noordam III, second and last of the "N"-class ships; with HAL 1984-2004 then to on long term charter to Thomson Cruises as Thomson Celebration; currently sailing for Thomson's "new name" Marella Cruises as Marella Celebration - HAL still owns her! Noordam IV 2006-present; fourth and last of the "Vista"-class ships. The one whose bell you and DH poured champagne on during her naming/christening ceremonies while representing all Mariners :)

HALOnlyCruiser Posted September 17, 2018 #56 Share Posted September 17, 2018 Thank you Jacqui and Krazy for the welcome and all the info. I sure have a long way to go, Awards-wise! Maybe now that we're close to Seattle I can take advantage of last-minute deals.....and no air fare! I've already done several Alaska cruises, but I really enjoy Alaska and would never pass up the chance to go back. I guess by now HAL has stopped giving out tiles. What else has changed in the past 12 years? Thanks again, fellow CC friends. I had forgotten how much I enjoy Copper 10-8's posts!

VennDiagram Posted September 17, 2018 #62 Share Posted September 17, 2018 I’ll be honest which Noordam doesn’t matter to me. I’m just glad I got the credit from sailing on whichever Noordam it was!Sent from my iPhone using Forums Excellent news (y) :) Thanks for letting us know. And I agree -- which of the Noordams you got those days on makes no difference at all.

I thought some of the posters here have said they have sailed HAL since so long ago. We do! We were at the ceremony in port Everglades with the Zuiderdam. DW met AK on one of our early Alaska cruises. She was standing next to him in the Casino when he hit the jackpot on video poker for $4,000. Go figure. Then on another cruise at a party with the senior staff, Capt Jack seem to get upset with my DW for spending too much time talking with HM Nick Burger than with him. I think Cap Jack got over it :D

ithaca gal Posted September 18, 2018 #67 Share Posted September 18, 2018 :( We don't all care about the same things for the same reason. You don't care but .... ;) This is so true. Many of us take no notice of who the Captain is when we sail. It just isn’t important to me who is driving the ship as long as we get there and back safely. I would never be able to recall the name of a Captain a year later much less a decade or two later.
PatsyAnne Posted September 18, 2018 #68 Share Posted September 18, 2018 Years ago (January 1986), I sailed on the Noordam on a B2B cruise to Mexico for 14 days. I never really thought too much about it, because with having kids and then paying for school and college, we weren't cruising. Well, my youngest is almost out of college, dh is retiring soon and now were taking many cruises!! Has anyone heard of getting credit for a cruise from that long ago? I got credit for one in 1970. We rarely see the same captains, etc. even though we sail on some ships more than others. Quite a turn over.

Yes AK Landerman, former President of HAL, hit the $4,000 jackpot on our Alaska cruise! Now the rest of the story. This happened on our 2nd or 3rd cruise on HAL way back in the 80's. Our next HAL cruise was over a year later in the Caribbean. When we went to the MDR on the first nite the wine guy came to our table and offered us a free bottle of wine for dinner compliments of AK Landerman. My DW had only met him once in the casino. That sold us on Holland America ! Maybe some one should start a thread on "How you got Hooked on HAL". PS: The wine guy said we could order any wine on the menu and pointed to this real expensive wine. I told him we prefer ripple wine :D. We did not follow his advice. Rare Essiesmom Posted September 18, 2018 #71 Share Posted September 18, 2018 I wish I could get credit for four sailings on Home Lines in 1972/73 (they were purchased by HAL in 1988) but I have no proof, nothing but memories. EM

silvercruiser Posted September 18, 2018 #74 Share Posted September 18, 2018 I got credit fromRCL for 1977 cruise on Song of Norway. Funny, with so much cruising, I didn't get backto RCL until a couple of years ago, but they were able to find my original cruise.
