Getting Your Mariner Stars Back

I noticed that a fair number of people had broken image links in their signatures where the Holland America Mariner Stars images used to be. The images used to come from the HAL site, but they took them down, leaving a bunch of fine people with busted signatures.

The images are no longer on the Holland America website, but they are available from the Wayback Machine.  So, as a public service - and because I care - I gathered up the 1 Star, 2 Star, 3 Star, 4 Star and 5 Star images and put them somewhere you can access them for your signature.

I also wrote up some instructions on how to put the image into your signature in case some of your are unfamiliar with the way that the new system works.

If you already know how to edit your signature, I'll save you some time and give you the file links.  You can either download the files to your computer / device / robot and reupload them, or you can use the direct external image linking method to place the images. I'll use the latter in my instructions.  However, if you know what you're doing, here are the links - in code boxes so you can easily copy and paste the text:

1 Star Image

2 Star Image

3 Star Image

4 Star Image

How To Add An Image To Your Signature:

To add an image to your signature, you'll first need to find the Signature panel under your Account Settings.  Click on your username to open the drop down.

On the drop down, click Account Settings.

Next, click Signature on the Settings screen.

00c-sig.JPG.30d0c6a9badce859ca3d0325ad5de367.JPG

Place you cursor where you'd like to insert the image. If you have broken links or other leftover junk, go ahead and clean it up first, and then put your cursor where you want to insert the image. I chose the beginning of the line. I've only got one line in my signature, but you can have up to 10. Be aware that only one or two lines show up in the unexpanded view of your signature.

Once you've got your cursor placed, click on the Insert other media button and then click Insert image from URL.

This will open an overlay dialog box where you can enter the URL of the appropriate image.  (They're up near the top of this post, but I'll repeat them at the bottom for your convenience.

Copy and paste the correct URL for your particular Mariner status.  I'm using the 4 star image in this example.

Then, click the Insert into post button to place your image.

The image shows up where your cursor was, at the beginning of the first line in this example.  Don't forget to click the Save button. Otherwise, you've just wasted your time.

For those who could care less or are bored with signatures, there is an option in settings that lets you turn them off.  We have not seen any signatures in years...but somehow survive :).

Hank

There is an option to block people like you, but I'll be perfectly honest, you make my day. You left out the part about hundreds of cruises on dozens of cruise lines. That's my favorite!

I tried it but obviously need remedial help.

It looks like you missed the part with the pop-up image from URL window.

Just re-read the example. I did it with the four star image.  Copy the four star image URL and paste it into the box.  Don't worry, the extra tries are free!

Brian, the difference I notice is that mine have a little box around them - yours in your signature is clear.   I guess I took a shortcut, and wound up with a slightly different format.   I shall experiment!    5starMariner.gif  Yay! It worked .  I needed to put it in the spot that said "Insert other media"

I see that you said that in your instructions - I'm always in too much of a hurry.  That's one of my problems with the new CC - I'm in a hurry, and CC is slow.

If you wanna go all web ninja, use this in place of your 5-star Lucky Charms logo. It will insert the logo and the logo will hyperlink to the big explanation graphic.

The little box seems to come from uploading the image to the CC server.  The boxless ones are being pulled from my server at theinstituteofcheer.com - and at the Institute, we keep our servers squeaky clean and well-oiled so you never get that nasty "ring-around-the-collar*" stain. :classic_biggrin:

* - Did you have those Wisk ads in Canada? If not, never mind.

Okay - I tried and the URL turned pink, but it wouldn't insert.  Might it have been too long?  I see yours worked.  Of course five is more than four....:classic_ohmy:

It could be that the machines are out to get you.  Let's see if it works for me. If it does, you can probably copy & paste it.

I cut and pasted into my signature and I still have the box.  What I will have to do is type that URL in manually.  Just hope I don't make a typo.

Can't you just copy the text from the code box and paste it into your signature?  That's what I did. But, of course, the machines love me.

Customer survey says 5 stars for POA1 to the rescue!  Thank you!

From me, too.  But I'm afraid that "ring around the collar" persists.  I tried with the link you sent me, Brian, and it wouldn't take, so I tried typing it in manually, and that didn't work either.  But I'm happy with my lucky charms as is.
