Or unruly children, on some cruises playing tag in the elevators and in the hall ways. Or allowing their small children to snorkel in the hot tub due to the fact that the pool is too deep . And Keep your hands out of the food at the Lido Buffet, HAL provides utensils to grab the food, I do not care how many cruises you have been on. You may be able to board, and depart before me . but if I'am in line at the buffet , Or to enter the theater . You have no right what so ever to crowd in front of me and my wife . There are people aboard ship that had to scrimp and save even to be able to take a cruise don't be a jerk about ,they and I do not care how many cruises you have been on !!!! smi889 Posted October 16, 2019 #327 Share Posted October 16, 2019 Don't tell it like it is.😂 The crusaders will hunt you down.Smoking is the greatest topic to draw the ire of many. sprinkles Posted October 22, 2019 #328 Share Posted October 22, 2019 Question for the smokers only (PLEASE). It’s been 3 years since being on a HAL ship. Do they still let you buy cartons (benson and hedges menthol) and take them back to your cabin, during the cruise ? Just got off Princess and was pleasantly surprised that they are now allowing it. Hoping HAL still does. Leaving for a b2b in two weeks, just trying to plan. Also, am I correct that the only smoking area on the Eurodam is at the aft sea view bar? Thanks, Happy Sailing Everybody

And yes, the only designated smoking area on Eurodam is deck 9 aft, starboard side near the seaview pool and bar.
wwcruisers Posted October 23, 2019 #330 Share Posted October 23, 2019 Do the smoking areas near the seaview pool actually affect the folks using the pool? I ask because one of X's primary designated smoking areas is near the main pool. But, I've never noticed it when I was in the pool. And, I do my best to avoid walking past that area, on my way to/from the pool. Hoping that the situation on HAL is similar.

If you walk in and out on the port side from the lido you “should” not have a problem. It is a very small area. However if you choose to walk in and out on the starboard side you will pass right by it. The aft area is a rather large area, I guess for extra insurance, pick lounge chairs on the starboard side as well (New York Pizza side) and order drinks from a server and you would not be exposed at all. As in my above post this is the ONLY area left we are allowed to smoke. I have seen too many times the same passengers purposefully walking by during the entire cruise, waving hands, holding noses, etc. just to make fun of us, when all they have to do is use the other door. It gets annoying, I don’t travel with children. If I choose to go to “their” pool, I don’t get angry, when they are acting like children. So I usually go to the aft pool. Happy Sailing Everybody, we all deserve restful happy cruises.
wwcruisers Posted October 24, 2019 #332 Share Posted October 24, 2019 Thanks, Sprinkles! It does sound very similar to the pool-side smoking area on X ships -- so it should be no problem for us. I too am searching for an 'adult pool', so if I need to walk a little further to circumvent the smoking area -- no worries!😎

sprinkles Posted October 24, 2019 #335 Share Posted October 24, 2019 Yup you are correct, i just mentioned it in passing. I’m dealing with just realizing that cigars and pipes are also allowed in the one and only smoking area (we all have our “issues” lol). That’s a bummer for me, as just off Princess and it had a cigar bar. Oh well at least I know they are allowed there. But got my guarantee cabin assignments today and too happy about location and not having to change cabins during the back to back. So hip hip hurray, live and let live. But this will be interesting, the one outdoor smoking area I just had on Princess was way bigger and often packed to capacity. So quit or shut up lol. KroozNut Posted October 24, 2019 #336 Share Posted October 24, 2019 On our recent Eurodam sailing, the smoking area never seemed over crowded, or packed to capacity. There were always plenty of comfortable chairs and tables to accommodate everyone.

Thanks, Happy Sailing Everybody We always buy cigarettes on board "Royal Caribbean, Holland ,Carnival ", as well as in Port on the island. We take them back to our cabin . The responsibility of Duty is yours. If you smoke them while in port or in the smoking areas on ship you do not have to pay duty. Oren Posted November 4, 2019 #341 Share Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) Change in Casino Smoking Policy (per HAL FAQ's posted October 2019): Per the most recent FAQ on HAL's website, the smoking policy in the casinos fleetwide has changed to allow casino smoking on "designated nights, active players only". Question: Has anyone seen this in effect? Does this mean its 100% non-smoking at all other times? Recent HAL cruisers, please chime in if this is hopefully being enforced... There were 2 non-smoking nights . I was pleasantly surprises how little residual smell of smoke there was . On smoking nights, only gamblers were allowed to smoke . You could cheat but I did see a few not gamblers being told to butt out . Perhaps it's gone from designated non-smoking nights to designated smoking nights but that's really not a change is it ? The heading on the section is "Designated Smoking Areas" followed by bullet-points stating where it is allowed and when. It is clear to me that it means that smoking is on designated nights only. Whether they follow this on the cruise ship is another story.

They've always had "non-smoking" nights in some of the casinos. Bottom line is that smoking is still allowed in the casino on some ships, which is what people who don't like indoor smoking want to know.

Curly-Q Posted December 8, 2019 #346 Share Posted December 8, 2019 So disappointing that HAL doesn't eliminate all smoking in the casinos like most cruise companies have done. There is a lot that I like about HAL and began cruising with them when they changed their original smoking policy, but feel restricted to those non-smoking ships that have blah itineraries IMO--specially the Veendam that is now out of Tampa, how nice it would be to have that one go smoke-free! I won't be cruising any of HAL's ships that allow smoking in the casino. and may go with Celebrity instead.

nini Posted December 10, 2019 #348 Share Posted December 10, 2019 We are considering HAL/ Nieuw Statendam again because of an offered itinerary; but would like to know the designated smoking areas before we select a cabin. We are usually on Princess which is our favorite, but the itinerary on HAL appears better.
qoap24 Posted December 10, 2019 #349 Share Posted December 10, 2019 I do not know all of the smoking areas on NS but I do know that on Lido deck aft starboard. We were in Neptune suite 4211 and we could smell the smoke while in port and would find cigarette buds on our balcony
