Hello my experienced cruisers.

This is going to be my second cruise, first long cruise. I am going on a 15 day Hawaiian cruise in October and I know there is tons to do on the cruise, but i'm curious about what you all bring to keep you "entertained" in your down time.

I know i'm going to bring a couple of books, but anything else you suggest?

Thanks,
Emily.

If colouring books are your thing, you could bring one of those.  I normally can't justify the time to do them, though I am jealous of people who do lovely ones, so I bought one to take on a cruise - though I ended up not having any spare time to even get it out lol!  (I've only done 7 day cruises so far)

If you're cruising with friends/family who might like to play some card games or things like cards against humanity, you could bring those - you'll find quiet places around the ship you'd be able to play those I'm sure.

In addition to books, a Kindle, and the games on our IPad we also bring puzzle and logic problem books.  We have also attended many of the educational lectures that they offer on board (not shopping talks).  When we sailed on the Royal we took the Ultimate Ship’s Tour which is $150 pp, but in our opinion it was worth it.  There are also complimentary cooking demonstrations that are held from time to time.  We have never been bored on a cruise and the only time we turn on the TV is to check the ship’s course and progress and to see the view from the front webcam.

Like others have said, I bring my iPad with about 5 new books downloaded. DH brings his kindle Fire, not for books (the fire is a hand me down from me) but because the man can stay happily occupied playing solitaire for hours.

You may want to consider doing a "Live From" on this forum. I hope to do one from our next trip on the Regal because we now have unlimited internet. Writing a review when I was waiting for buses or trains while on our land tour in Alaska was a great way to pass the time.

I always bring my tablet with a lot of games and puzzles. I also bring an MP3 player with a ton of audiobooks on it. I have purchased complete series; like Jesse Stone (17 books) or Kinsey Millhone (25 books); I got these on ebay dvd mp3 format for about $35 for each series. I hope this helps.

Music on your phone.  Put it in a glass for a speaker for inside listening.  Listen to your music on your balcony (with earphones so as not to disturb neighbors) with a bottle of wine and a good book.  (all together, multitask)

If you have MedallionNet, watch hulu, netflix, amazon prime, if you have them. Better on tablet or laptop but I've used my iphone. (again, much better on balcony with wine and earphones)

I download a number of audiobooks (nothing beats sitting on a balcony listening to a great book), deck of cards, puzzle books (sudoku), my iPad and a portable DVD player.  We like to binge on shows during long cruises—I watched season 1 of Outlander on a 15-day cruise!  I’m able to hook my DVD player to the tv so no need for internet.  Also, I play numerous games (on a USB drive) on the player—it comes with a controller.  The games are fun with friends after a little drinking!

Many times though, I find myself not using any of it.  Love, love cruising!

For your 15 day RT to Hawaii, bring some warm clothes bc the first and last 2 days can be chilly.  I see you're from BC, so you may not think it is as chilly as we did from FL, so you will be better prepared.   Day 3 - 13 are true island weather, or were for us.  ENJOY!!!!

iPad, ukulele,  and a couple of cases of Dr. Pepper.

Plenty of Hawaiian themed activities on board.  Ukulele, hula, lei making classes, etc.

Enjoy your cruise.   I do.

Can you even get tapes to play on that dinosaur?      :classic_biggrin:

I've seen a few people bring their craft projects with them, e.g. knitting, jewelry making, crocheting, etc.

I usually bring a couple of books, or watch movies on the MUTS screen by the pool.

My dad and my aunt like to play cards, so she will bring cards and teach us some game to play.

Be sure & join the roll call for your cruise - you might be able to identify people looking to play cards or other games.  LCR is fun & doesn't require a lot of packing space.  Also, a deck of cards doesn't take up too much room.  We usually take our cribbage board and I download lots of stuff (books & movies) to my IPad.  We've done the cruise to Hawaii plus some other sea-day intensive cruises - haven't run out of stuff to do yet!!  There's also usually games available in the library as well as jigsaw puzzles.

DW brings her Kindle and I bring nothing, with that said we're out on deck in almost all weather, sometimes it's layering and sometimes just sunscreen and light clothing. On the really nice days at sea buckets of beer, people watch, MUTS or casino. For us it's the total relaxation away from the stresses of regular life. Just saying.
