Brisbane41 Posted February 17, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 17, 2019 Does anyone know why there is an itinerary change for Arcadia on its current world cruise. Marine Traffic has it heading to Newcastle tomorrow the 19th February and this is confirmed by Newcastle Port Authority but it is not on the Newcastle cruise schedule listing nor is it on the itinerary for its world cruise. Must be a late change to the itinerary but why?
Kiwi Kruzer Posted February 17, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2019 Could be due to Cyclone Oma. I did note that she missed Port Vila and went direct to Noumea. Perhaps she has a spare day to fill in Newcastle had a vacancy. Newcastle is a great port to reprovision the ships ,
GUT2407 Posted February 18, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2019 It’s been on a list of Fort Scrathley’s fun firing for a couple of weeks at least.

Rare MicCanberra Posted February 18, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2019 Interesting, perhaps she is calling in to see some of the local wildlife, hey GUT? And sample some of the local vintages as well.
megsie Posted February 19, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 19, 2019 (edited) On our way to the Bay, saw this girl in Newcastle. Weird sort of day for them - warm, some blustering wind and dusty plus looks like rain clouds building up. Rare MicCanberra Posted February 19, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 19, 2019 Arcadia is a nice looking ship.
megsie Posted February 19, 2019 #8 Share Posted February 19, 2019 I prefer the dark hulls on the Vista class. They don't seem to show the markings of the longer voyages as much. Not that it really matters, it probably is a beautiful ship.
SeaDog-46 Posted February 20, 2019 #9 Share Posted February 20, 2019 Are the HAL vista better looking? see attached of Westerdam. Where the accommodation bends in fore & aft to allow space for the boats - inside the alleyways / corridors also have a double bend. On Arcadia this caused unsightly damage where trolleys hit as they went around. HAL have done away with trolleys & I did not notice any damage on Noordam. If booking a balcony on a Vista class - they are smaller in size in the area above the boats compared to the fore & aft areas.
Rare MicCanberra Posted February 20, 2019 #10 Share Posted February 20, 2019 Just off the Maasdam, straight corridors.
SeaDog-46 Posted February 20, 2019 #11 Share Posted February 20, 2019 But Mic - Maasdam is an S class not a vista class.
Rare MicCanberra Posted February 21, 2019 #12 Share Posted February 21, 2019 Yep, I agree, but it has nice lines and the dark hull. Just like P&O Aria and Eden.

NSWP Posted February 23, 2019 #17 Share Posted February 23, 2019 (edited) Nice pics, thanks. Love the Arcadia, did 49 days on her in 2012, Sydney to Southampton via Africa, then another year a Med cruise on her. I like the Vista Class ships, just the right size. Our next ship - Noordam is also Vista Class. Edited February 23, 2019 by NSWP

Brisbane41 Posted February 24, 2019 Author #22 Share Posted February 24, 2019 Arcadia was never intended to be a P&O ship. It was originally a HAL ship but was designed later to go to Cunard. It was supposed to be the Queen Victoria and painted in a black hull. If you look carefully at its profile and design you will see featrues that are unique to Cunard line only. The mast for example how the top of it tilts forward was a feature that came out with the design of QE2 and apparently to give it a modern look and if you look at the funnel shape and structures around its base it resembles the similar shape and profile as the funnel of the QE2. All Cunard ships have tried to mimic this profile ever since. Arcadia is unique as it was never intended to be a P&O ship.
