cruiser4305 Posted March 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2019 I'm a fairly religious scourer of cruise deals since I have a flexible schedule and live in a cruising mecca. But this year I've seen prices jump more than in years past, with no signs that they are coming down. Last year around this time I was able to book several cruises for about $38-45/nt, now there are only a handful of non-repositioning cruises that are $54/nt, most are much higher. Had anyone else noticed this? Any explanations? Higher demand, or...?
leaveitallbehind Posted March 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2019 If you're assessment is accurate, it would be the result of supply and demand driven by a strong economy. A rise in pricing would not be sustainable otherwise.
navybankerteacher Posted March 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2019 I occasionally check pricing and find that your price point is very low. $54 a night for a non-repositioning cruise is a steal. Most itineraries run closer to $100 a night. In any event, with a strong economy prices are only going to inch up for the time being. When the next recession hits, particularly if the number of newer and larger ships coming on line continues at current rate, there is likely to be a sharp drop. i am curious: what have you seen for $54 a night? Rare MicCanberra Posted March 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2019 Wow, must have been last minute cruises for those prices. The market is supply and demand driven so if more people are cruising, the prices will rise.
marco Posted March 6, 2019 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2019 Wow!!.....I've never seen prices as low as $38-$45 a night. That's as low as $266 or a 7 night cruise and $380 for a 10 day. Good for you to snag those prices!!!
Rare MicCanberra Posted March 6, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 6, 2019 Just was told by a friend, there is a 14 night cruise up the east coast and Canada for $450 USD ($32pp/night), it is advertised here for $1150 AUD.
zqvol Posted March 6, 2019 #7 Share Posted March 6, 2019 I have never seen prices as low as OP is suggesting. I wish I could find them.
Texas Tillie Posted March 6, 2019 #8 Share Posted March 6, 2019 There might be ones this cheap infrequently on the Carnival and NCL old ships. This is not the norm.

Joebucks Posted March 7, 2019 #13 Share Posted March 7, 2019 While I don't believe there was a switch turned on that jumped prices that much overnight, the travel industry is doing very well. For as much as everyone moans and groans that every airline, hotel, and cruise line has taken away their god-given rights, they continue to see record travel. Rare MicCanberra Posted March 7, 2019 #14 Share Posted March 7, 2019 Agreed, there seems to be a real expansion in travel right around the globe.
