I was just talking with my group that is going on Sunrise in November and a few of us smoke. Now I know enough about what areas smoking is allowed, casino, some decks away from the pool and restaurants but what about vaping? I have a friend going with who is a bit of a bro and will just vape where ever he likes and even tho it's annoying and we tell him not to he still does. Now I don't want to get him kicked off if he does that so what are the vaping policies on the boat?

"Cigarette smoking (including electronic cigarettes and personal vaporizers...)" Carnival lumps smoking any of these things together.  Pipes & cigars are different and have their own designated areas. ("Cigar and tobacco pipes are only permitted...")

8. COMPLIANCE WITH RULES, SOLICITATION, SMOKING, DRINKING, ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, SEARCHES, AND BEVERAGE POLICY

(a) Guest agrees during the course of the voyage to follow the directions of the ship’s Master, or his authorized officer. Guest further agrees not to solicit anyone on the vessel for any commercial or professional purposes. Guest agrees that any violation of this Clause may subject Guest to disembarkation.

(b) Guest acknowledges that smoking is only permitted in designated areas. Guest agrees to refrain from smoking in non-designated areas and agrees that Carnival has the right to assess a $500 charge, per violation, and to disembark the Guest for failure to observe Carnival's Tobacco and Marijuana Smoking Policy ("Smoking Policy").

(c) Any and all forms of smoking, including but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vaporizers, and electronic cigarettes are strictly prohibited on board Carnival's vessels except in specific designated exterior deck areas and designated casino/night club spaces. All staterooms and suite accommodations, including the outside balconies, are NON-SMOKING. In accordance with Carnival's Smoking Policy any marijuana possession or use is strictly prohibited on all Carnival ships at all times, regardless of local, state, or other laws which might permit use or possession of marijuana. Carnival abides by U.S. Federal Law which prohibits the possession or use of marijuana on its ships for any reason. Any Guest who brings marijuana or any illegal controlled substances on board, in violation of Carnival's policy or U.S. or international law, including any law of a port or the flag state, will be reported to local and/or Federal authorities and U.S. Customs & Border Protection for possible detainment and/or enforcement action. Guest agrees to strictly comply with Carnival's Smoking Policy. Guest further agrees that any violation of Carnival's Smoking Policy would also cause Carnival to incur damages, including but not limited to, loss of Guest goodwill, revenue, cleaning, maintenance, fines and/or other costs. Any evidence of smoking in a stateroom or balcony, e.g.; smoke smell/residue, butts, ashes, upholstery/furniture burns, tampering of the smoke alarm, will constitute a violation of Carnival's Smoking Policy. Guests who violate our Smoking Policy will be assessed a $500 charge, per violation, on the Guest's Sail & Sign account, and may also result in the disembarkation of all Guests in the stateroom. Such Guests will be solely responsible for all resulting financial penalties and expenses to return home, and no refund of their unused cruise fare will be provided. Guest further acknowledges and agrees that any violation of this policy shall, in the sole discretion of Carnival, constitute a material breach of this cruise contract. In the event of such breach, Guest forfeits all rights hereunder, including the right to remain on board. Carnival reserves the right to disembark Guest(s), at any port, as determined by Carnival. Carnival shall not be liable for any refund or other compensation or damages whatsoever to any Guest disembarked pursuant to this provision, or who disembarks because another Guest is so disembarked, and all such Guests forfeit all rights under Carnival's "Vacation Guarantee." Such Guests may also be prohibited from sailing with Carnival in the future.

If it's a vape... I doubt anyone will really know if you are doing it assuming it makes no specific smell.

I disagree -- those things usually produce so much smoke (water vapor?) it's like a fog.  More annoying than cigarettes, really.

Approved smoking areas for cigarettes and vaping are the same.  One caveat: if what is being vaped is illegal, that can get your bro and possibly you if you are with him when confronted, kicked off the ship.  No "homemade" blends of cannabis or whatever.

and how would you know? it has no noticeable cannabis odor.

and, you are not going to get kicked off a ship, even for a real joint

You need to pay attention more when the ship stops at ports during the cruise. On more than one occasion I have been hanging out on my balcony when I have watched passengers getting escorted off the ship with their luggage by security personnel. Granted I don’t know the reason behind what I witnessed, but I have heard some good stories concerning passengers getting kicked off ships from senior staff at Diamond parties I have attended.

How very unprofessional of the staff to discuss the misdeeds of guests with others. I'm disappointed at this lack of discretion on the part of the ships' company.

You must really get upset with the CDs who frequently telll stories about passengers in response to questions they get at Q&A sessions during the cruise.

Nope, I went to one of those once and it was a bunch of nosy people who only wanted to know how much they get paid. I wouldn't subject myself to boredom when after all Carnival is the fun ships.

We always have balconies, never saw this and it's not going to happen for a joint.

There was a recent YouTube video about this exact issue, passengers getting kicked off a ship for having pot in their cabin. I think it was a video by Don Terriis, but not certain about that.

He will most likely not get kicked off the ship

BUT

he will be reported more times than not, he will be told every single time that its not allowed, he might get kicked out of the venue (example theater) if he doesn't listen, he will get into arguments and it will probably not be a very enjoyable time. If he vapes in his room or on a balcony and gets caught, there could be a fine

We have stayed in cabins that our neighbors smoked cigars the entire cruise and guest services didn't care! Not even a little bit . Even after we continued to complain the entire cruise they did it .

As far as vaping weed , I do it legally and you would never know I did it or am doing it 😉. Zero smell and minimal smoke. I wouldn't take it or smoke it onboard though because I'm legal in my home state but it's still federally banned for now so not worth the risk for me

I am guessing the majority of commentators have little first hand experience. Yes, odorless/almost smokeless. And also, alot of people do use it for tobacco.

Ok just to clarify there is NO tobacco in e-cig juice(thus much safer than smoking), just nicotine and the user can control how much of that.  There is every flavor you can imagine available thus lots of smells-all good.  That being said, remind your friend that yes, allowed only in smoking areas and to make sure all of his batteries are in his carry-on, not checked luggage.  They aren't allowed because the pressure during  flight can cause them to explode.  If TSA finds them in his checked luggage, they will throw them out so he will get on the ship and won't be vaping lol.
