Is MDR at 9:30 too late?

For a group of 11, I have one day where we are at port until 10PM, so the plan was to get back on the ship at 8:30PM, rest/get ready for an hour, and go to the MDR at 9:30PM. Is this considered too late?

 

Select Dining says I can go anytime between 6 and 9:30, but is the 9:30 really them saying you can come in at 9:30 latest or is it more "please for the love of God finish your meal around this time or be halfway done at least."

As long as you get through the door by 9:30 pm, you should be ok.  I would go about 10 minutes before just to be safe.

You might give the Maitre’d a heads up the day prior that you’ll be coming in just prior to 9:30pm with 11 people.

Try it once.  It is possible that a lot of people do this, after seeing the show.  If, however, you are the only folks in the dining room, you are probably keeping waitstaff and kitchen staff that could use the 30 minutes of rest, 30 minutes too late.  Crew staff can be quite accommodating, smiling while they are working harder than most of us can imagine.  It is the job that they applied for and were happy to be hired to perform.  However, once you have a chance to assess the situation, be as good a person as you can be.   Enjoy your cruise.

I’m guessing there will be almost nobody waiting in line to get in at 9:30 .  Heck I’m usually ready for bed at 9:30

I say skip the rest and go to the MDR when you get back.  11 people at 9:30 will keep the employees there until at least 11:00.  Or you could always choose the buffet.

Have our considered dinner at a restaurant at the port ?

You could try to research a good restaurant and reserve a table,by e mail, for a group of 11. Or, it may be easier,once on board, to get something at the Oceanview Cafe.

take into account that you will be the last to attend and maybe the food is not freshly made and the service will not be the best, at that time the employees already want to go to rest.
