alaska cruise on Jewel later this month.

for a Casinos at Sea cruise, i can pick my own cabin.

it's an 'free' Inside cabin but i forgot to specify cabin # and was given a IF category.

called back and they wont let me specify a cabin #.

person said all the CAS assigned cabins are booked. i have to wait till the computer picks one for me.

W T F??  i've booked many CAS cruises and this has never happened to me before.

This new for CAS?

also, IF category is 4th +5th floors.

if i would have known this, i would never have booked and chosen another cruise. :classic_angry:

My son called CAS a few weeks ago and booked one week before his cruise sailed (Boston to Bermuda) and they told him same thing.   He was assigned to an IF category but no room number yet.   I had checked and there were only Family Insides (Deck5) showing available so I thought they would assign him one of those.  He was willing to take whatever as he had some airfare that was going to expire.

Three days before his cruise they assigned him to a very nice mid-ship IA on deck 11.  I guess they waited until they were finished doing upgrades and those nice Insides showed up.

Hang in there....hopefully they will find you an IA or IB before the cruise.

the other problem is that this is a back to back cruise.

i would like the same room # and there are quite a few available on both cruises in I1 category.

that way, i dont have to move.

i learned my lesson to specify a room # BEFORE giving NCL my credit card #!

sigh..

Any numbered category I1, B1, B6, B9 will be a higher then standard upgrade fee with CAS

I knew about the LArge Balcony and Aft Balcony but you can no longer pick I1 as a cabin category?

when did they implement this?

unlike the balconies, there's no difference between a I1 and any other inside cabin.

(same size, same furniture.)

I was told by Alan all numbered categories are considered higher comps so upgrade fees are higher. With that being said, I always upgrade to at least the B1 even if it costs a few extra bucks, The difference to me is not having the wind from the side facing balconies and the larger size of course.

Sold out is sold out. Pretty easy to understand that if there are no rooms to pick, you can't pick one and you go to a GTY.

wrt I1, a letter+number is not a standard cabin and is an upgrade. You could pay the upgrade fee to get a i# cabin, if you chose. letter+letter is a standard cabin in any booking class.

as i said in my OP, i never had this problem before.

i just picked the inside room i wanted whenever i used a free casino certificate.

this is the 1st time i forgot to pick a room before hanging up, mainly because i was concentrating on it being back to back and it slipped my mind.

i did research to see which rooms were available for both cruises before i called back and saw that a few I1 rooms fit that criteria.

an aft balcony (B1) is much different physically than a regular BA-BF balcony. (ie: much bigger balcony)

i didnt know I1 was an upgrade category when i created this thread because it's the exact same sized room as any other Inside room (IA-IF).

(i stayed in one when i was assigned it when i booked a GTY no promo cabin at less than $50/day before cruisenext certificate.>

apparently none of the rooms i picked in the past were in the I1 category. <insert shrug emoticon here>

Nothing wrong with deck 4 on the Jewel, we had a  great cabn, porthole.  Easy when getting back on board from ports, as we usually boarded on deck 4 and we walked to mid=ship without having to do the elevator scrum.

Close to the MDR and theatre too.  There are advantages/disadvantages to every deck.  Deck 4 is no exception, there are pluses and minuses.
