Hampton Inn Times Square Central

Recommended Posts

I would appreciate any opinions or reviews regarding the Hampton Inn Times Square Central, including location. We are considering this hotel for a pre-cruise stay. We will be going to a couple of Broadway shows, visiting the Time square area, and touring Central Park.  We are still considering the other things we may want to do.  Thanks.

I find oyster.com to be a good source of meaningful professionally written summary reviews of hotels. Here's what they say about this property: https://www.oyster.com/new-york-city/hotels/hampton-inn-manhattan-times-square-central/ and https://www.oyster.com/new-york-city/hotels/hampton-inn-manhattan-times-square-central/full-review/

It's in the theater district so food for Broadway shows.  It's 18 blocks from the lower end of Central Park so may or may not want to walk there, depending on your fitness level and such.

Been to NY quite a few times and recommend you don't get your hopes up with Times Square.  It is a tourist trap with mostly naked girls, guys dressed up like superheroes who like to threaten you if you don't pay them money and way overpriced shops.  Would certainly recommend Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Broadway.  If you like Seinfeld, there's always the Soup Nazi's place.

It's also in the middle of the theater district, walkable to/from Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza, Bryant Park, Grand Central etc. etc. so the general Times Square area is still a popular place to stay as a "home base" while in NYC.

We stayed there last year when we went to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.  It's an easy walk from Penn Station and a convenient location to many shows.  The interiors are nice and clean, but nothing special.  The breakfast area gets very crowded.  They have signs up warning you of this.  Expect to take your breakfast back up to your room if you are not down there early.  There's also an open balcony area on one of the higher floor of the building if you want to have a look around town.

I usually prefer the Hilton properties a bit further south, closer to Penn Station and the ESB.  You are still close enough to T.S. for easy access to the action, but no so close that you are swarmed with people and can actually get around a bit easier. Plus, the prices can sometimes even be a bit lower.
