Hurricane Dorian talk

Recommended Posts

appears canceled, we were just a three night cruise from August 31st to September 3rd.  I can't grasp how they would post the current sailing is extended and NOT notify us that we are cacnelled.  There is no need to not inform if you know this information.... people don't need to get on planes in a few hours!

Do I read it correctly. You do NOT receive back the tax and fees? Port charges?

No,   you missed this:

You’ll also receive a full refund for any pre-purchased items like, shore excursions, beverage packages, pre-paid gratuities, and your taxes & fees. If you booked a non-refundable fare, fees will be waived.

From the updates link I posted:

"SYMPHONY 8/31/19 & SYMPHONY 9/3/19

We are sorry for this last-minute change and thank you for your understanding and patience during this unusual and unfortunate circumstance"

Symphony will not be returning until 9/4. So I would say 8/31 is cancelled.

Symphony of the Seas was supposed to have sailings:

  • 8/24 - 8/31
  • 8/31 - 9/3
  • 9/3 - 9/7

It was just announced that the 8/24 sailing will not return to Miami until 9/4, so as dodge mentioned, one would assume the 8/31 sailing is just straight up cancelled.  It is bizarre that they have not announced this.  I am scheduled on the 9/3 sailing and they haven't posted updates for any 9/3 sailings, so I can understand that we haven't gotten an update yet (even though we are also obviosly delayed).  I'm also curious how it's going to go on 9/4 turning boats around in Miami... They have Navigator, Empress, and Symphony all turning around that day, but as far as I know only one space at the port... Plus I assume other companies will be trying to turn around extra ships that day... Going to be CHAOS!

If we decide not to take a shortened cruise do we get back our taxes, port fees and gratuities? Any or all?

For sure you would get back taxes and gratuities and anything you purchased via the Cruise Planner.

You are misreading the site, as did my wife.  What it actually says is:

We are currently working through confirming new ports for additional itineraries that are impacted due to Hurricane Dorian. We will have an update for the below sailings by 3:00 PM EDT, on Friday, August 30th, 2019, or sooner:

SYMPHONY 8/31/19 & SYMPHONY 9/3/19

The final line apoligizing for the last-minute change and apoliogizing for the inconvience is referring to all of the changes.

There is no official cancellation on the 8/31 yet. The 8/24 sailing on Symphony is showing as extended to 9/4 but at the bottom of the page it has:

Maybe they are waiting for updated estimated port closure in Miami but Symphony is listed as being in Nassau for tomorrow.

Hopefully by morning there is an update on this sailing.

Should I call them to inform them that we will not be on the cruise

You don't have to call, unless they are asking you to call to get some other consideration like FCC.  A no show would also get back taxes, gratuities, and any Cruise Planner purchases.

It certainly appears the August 31st sailing of the Symphony of the Seas is canceled being the current cruise won't return until September 4th, but we got NO notification.  There are 51 of us going, some supposed to leave Friday morning, others already there... I think it is really unfair to show the current cruise altered itinerary and not notify us that we are canceled and allow folks to get on planes for no reason. I just can't comprehend this.  Of course reservations is closed.  UGH.  Safety is a priority, but so is alerting folks their cruise is canceled.

It just happened a couple of hours ago.  Did you book through a TA, the notification may have gone to them and you’ll hear in the morning.

I know this is a long shot and you'll probably laugh but do they extend your onboard credit to another cruise?

I am currently on the Equinox and we are returning to FLL on Saturday.  The ship is arriving a couple of hours early to get everyone off and then they plan to board the new passengers and depart.  I was to be on the 9/1 Allure for a btb, but now I will have to wait for Wednesday.  I am sticking around because I have a btb so it will be an 11 night cruise for me.  If it had not been a btb, I would just fly home this Saturday.  I was able to add three more nights to my hotel reservation and make a rental car reservation.

My problem is we used a $500 casino voucher, so our fare was only around $620, minus $175 in taxes = $445 🤣 half OBC, half FCC

I'll be looking for your thread ":I didn't get my casino voucher back  CHEATED!!! 😇

Stay safe down there

No, but you should be able to cash out any remaining OBC.  Worst case you have to go to the casino and ask for a cash advance and pay a 5% fee.

We would like to still go on our Harmony cruise (departing Wednesday now) but will ask RCL when we can decide for sure. I don’t like the forecast showing it will still be a Cat 1 storm near Orlando Wednesday morning. A bit worried about driving near that.  Also concerned if the port will be open.

I’m in the same position. It really looks like Sunday would be the better day, and we could sail as scheduled.
