Rhody Lynn Posted September 3, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2019 Anyone cruised on the Great Lakes? Any input on particular cruise lines? Thanks.
Rare 1025cruise Posted September 3, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2019 I think there are a couple of lines that will do the Great Lakes, but they will be small boats. Its none of the mainstream lines. You might want to try the river cruise forums.
princeton123211 Posted September 4, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 4, 2019 I sat through a presentation with the new Ritz Carlton Yachts and their plan is to have Great Lakes cruises within a year or two of launching.

OnTheJourney Posted September 23, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2019 Pearl Seas has some really nice itineraries for the Great Lakes and also the St. Lawrence. On my list but just haven't gotten around to it yet. There is a shorter version of this one... https://www.pearlseascruises.com/cruises/great-lakes/great-lakes-and-georgian-bay
luv2travel06 Posted November 24, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 24, 2019 I received a brochure from Pearl Seas and called for a quote. $10k pp for a cabin--not in my price range.
Rhody Lynn Posted November 26, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted November 26, 2019 Thanks, what I've found also is that itineraries seem to include one or two days open sailing. We prefer more activity when we travel. Have loved river cruising in Europe with tours each day - perhaps will book another.
rkacruiser Posted October 3, 2021 #8 Share Posted October 3, 2021 The information that I have received from some of the companies planning Great Lakes cruises are quite attractive. Many ports are interesting. The pricing? Particularly for a solo cruiser? Not very encouraging. Many years ago, my family sailed on the Georgian Bay Lines S. S. South American. A four day itinerary from Detroit to Buffalo (and my first visit to the Welland Canal and Niagara Falls) to Cleveland ending in Detroit. My Mother splurged on booking a Bedroom type cabin on the ship; a comfortable and more roomy cabin for us than a regular cabin would have been. The good ship South American was quite different from any of the current cruise vessels that sail on the Great Lakes. It was a wonderful experience for me; it was my introduction to cruising. It helped me to become a cruise addict. Regardless of the cost, a Great Lakes cruise is one that I am considering.

It isn't a cargo ship, but Viking commence Great Lakes cruises next year on the new Expedition ship. Unfortunately, they also aren't great on single supplements. I don't think you'll find Viking any cheaper. They just recently started offering Great Lakes. I like Pearl's itineraries better.
Kay S Posted November 4, 2021 #12 Share Posted November 4, 2021 We will be doing the Great Lakes on the Pearl Mist in July. Any experiences?
OnTheJourney Posted November 4, 2021 #13 Share Posted November 4, 2021 Kay...I will be most interested to hear your thoughts on it. I definitely want to use them sometime, but just never seem to be able to fit it in. I like their longest cruise - the 15-night. Only offered a few times a year. https://www.pearlseascruises.com/cruises/canada/canadian-maritimes-and-st-lawrence-seaway
