Two bottles of wine?

I'm heading out on the Carnival Vista on Nov. 2 with a free balcony room as a casino bounce-back offer and a slot tournament finals entry.  My husband is staying home for a variety of reasons, and none of the other people I would be interested in traveling with were available, so I'm going solo.

This itinerary has 3 sea days, and so I did go ahead and buy the drink package because, although I imagine I'll spend a lot of time in the casino (with drinks on us), I also plan to spend a lot of time on serenity deck and by the pools. (Our last cruise had 6 port days out of 7.)

Anyways, my question to you is this. I like drinking mimosas on my balcony in the mornings by ordering orange juice and other continental breakfast foods and mixing with the champaign that I bring on board.  In the past I was able to bring two bottles of champagne since my husband was with me. Will it be a problem if I bring 2 bottles when I'm alone? Will anyone really care? I guess I'm willing to risk it since I buy cheap champagne to mix with orange juice, but curious what you all think. It won't get me in trouble to try to bring on 2 bottles, will it?

Thanks!

Yes, they care and no, they will take it or tell you to return it to your car. Limit of one bottle per guest.

Is it a foregone conclusion that they will take it away, or is it 50% or so likely that I'll get to keep it? I guess that's what I'm asking.  I guess I'm a bit frustrated that I've bough the drink package, so why should it matter if I bring an extra bottle of champagne? If anything, it will save them money....

Hi

You could consider not getting the drink package, bring your 1 bottle and buy another of champagne on board for your cabin. It could save you some money, if that is any consideration.

have a great cruise

The people at security don’t know you bought a drink package. The policy on Carnival is one bottle per person, 21 and older in cabin. If there were 4 people in your cabin over 21, you could take 4. On Royal Caribbean, it’s 2 per cabin, so as a solo traveler I can take 2.

if you want to try and take it, go ahead. The worst they can do is take one from you.

Yes, they will take it.  They aren't tipped Carnival employees and they are contracted to enforce a few very specific rules.  One bottle of wine/champ per adult , period.  What if they decided that you can't bring on any bottles?

I know every port is different but we just returned from a cruise out of Charleston.  I had 5 bottles of wine in a backpack, 1 for each person in our group.  We all went through the same security line but they didn't even hesitate when the wine went through for us.  They didn't care at all for us.

In my experience security doesn't seem to care or count the wine bottles.  I think in 16 cruises, we only had one time they actually pulled the wine out of my bag. Often I carry two in my bag and my husband does also. For the record we purchase Cheers but enjoy having nice wine (not a fan of any of Carnival's wine choices) on the balcony before dinner.

My advice would be to bring a nice bottle of wine and then a second one that you wouldn't be brokenhearted if they actually gave you an issue with it and you couldn't bring it onboard. Worse case scenario, they hold it for you until the end of the cruise.

They no longer store confiscated liquids.

Is this sarcasm?  Yes, our party was 6 with one being under 21.  We all brought a bottle and put them in one backpack.  My point was the same as FlaMommy75.  There's a chance an additional bottle won't be confiscated.

I thought you were saying you got 5 bottles in without everyone being over 21. You had 5 bottles for 5 people so you were doing exactly what is allowed. FlaMommy is actually taking 2 more than allowed with her bringing 2 and her husband bringing 2.  Back to original question of why can't people do what they are allowed like you did.

I carry 2 bottles onboard in a wine carrier. I travel with my husband, but sometimes we’ve gone thru different security lines. How do they know I’m not traveling solo? In Miami they didn’t even take the bottles out of my carry on, nor did they even unzip/open the bag husband was carrying with my  LaCroix. We joked it could have been 2 12 packs of beer and they would have never even noticed. If you don’t mind losing one bottle, just get something that holds 2 bottles and see what happens.

Fun story. We flew from Atlanta to Miami and I took two bottles of wine. I stressed and stressed about how to pack it to get it there safely. Hubby decided to do the cheers package almost as soon as we got on board. 🙄 😂

So I had to turn around and worry about getting two bottles of wine home! But I did!
