I’m new to Cunard, but when I look at QG5 and GQ6, I only see about a dozen rooms. Is that typical? There could be a reason they made the QG Restaurant small.

Grills account for around 12.5% of passengers on the older ships, it seems this one is about the same, but the ratio between QG and PG seems to be shifted dramatically more towards PG on this ship. My quick estimation gives 61 QG suites for 122 QG passengers on a double occupancy basis. Then there are 128 PG suites, for 256 PG passengers! That means 378/2996 (12.6%) approx.

QE for comparison: 65 QG suites accommodating 130 QG passengers, 60 PG suites accommodating 120 PG passengers. 250/2100 = ~12%

QM2 for comparison: 89 QG suites accommodating 178 QG passengers, 76 PG suites accommodating 152 PG passengers. 330/2700 = ~12.2%

These are just some quick counts/ estimations so might be a bit off, but shows the trend of a much bigger Princess Grill cohort on Queen Anne.

From a recent Cunard press release it would appear that 'open dining' is an option for all cabins on Queen Anne as opposed to just Club Balcony and, of course, Grills. As someone who prefers to dine at a time to suit myself I have always avoided Cunard despite the many other good things about the line so, for me, this is a positive step although I suspect some long-standing Cunarders may not be happy.

Is this a precursor to open dining on all the Queens perhaps?

Interesting see a traditional inclined launch, rather than a float out, did Queen Victoria and Elizabeth also have this or were they built in a single piece?

think both  done in one piece the forward section may already be  at Montfalcone I have looked carefully at AIS and can find no tug and tow on the route from Naples to the Adriatic neither are there any large tugs showing on AIS at the builders yard

inclined launch, reminds me of my younger days although the launch was usually not as smooth when hitting the water

I am sure that there will be a following for QA - but not necessarily all who have loved the elegance of the three current queens. For me the real deal breaker is the ballroom floor - which to me seems like there is either a real ignorance about what constitutes real ballroom dancing and the floor that is needed to do it, or there is an intention to dilute the ballroom dancing on QA compared to the other three ships. It is also possible that the plan is to use the QA Queen's Room for a bit of poor ballroom dancing as well as disco evenings - which would destroy the ballroom dancing even more.

Of course a significant number of passengers never get on the floor to dance real ballroom - but, for those who do, being unable to dance properly is a killer factor, and they may well decide to book on QE/QV/QM2 so that they can dance where they will be unable to on QA.

It is analogous to the situation where people who love being spectators to the top tennis matches, such as at Wimbledon, find suddenly that the Wimbledon modernisers decided that tennis courts take up too much space, and it would be financially better if the tennis courts were half the size to accommodate more spectators - and then wonder why the top players decide to play matches in the other cities, and not Wimbledon, where they do retain the traditional tennis court sizes - and then managers who don't play tennis can't understand what the fuss is about merely because the size of the courts is a 'little smaller' than used to be the case!

It has no proper dance floor, then add no proper promenade deck, with a Theatre that’s too small, plus the guest/sun decks ratio reduced and so on.  It can only confirm one’s previous suspicions that it’s a no sail.

Cunard FB reports launch was yesterday Friday 29th so the section is probably not underway yet I had wondered if the report was historic but it seems not.

Interesting also to see the rest of her prow loaded on top of the section.

I'm sure we've all seen it but now that the deck plans have been released it is clear that the ship growing on Google Maps has indeed been Queen Anne. Here we can see the void of the Queen's Room among other features.

The Queen’s Room spiral staircase, the other void from the casino down to the Golden Lion, the forward lifts and stairs, and the spa pool. And at the aft end, what looks like the midships stairs. I was trying to work out from the video where the join would be.

I tried looking for this image on Google Maps but couldn't find it, can anyone give me the coordinates that I can copy and paste into Google Maps please?

Thank you.

Weight distribution I guess given the lesser buoyancy forward leaving the bow lower in the water already?

Type Castellammare into Google maps and you should be able to see the yard right at the south end of the bay

Try this link to go directly to a closeup of the ship section in the shipyard using Google Maps.

Thanks, I did that when initially searching and have just done it again and the image of a ship under construction that comes up for me doesn't look anything like the image posted in this thread for some reason.

Does the link I provided work any better? I'm wondering if you are looking at Google Earth rather than Google Maps. The image I'm seeing is entirely different in Google Earth (from 2014).

Anyone heard who Queen Anne’s Madrina is? Who smashed the bottle at the launch? Don’t recognise her in the video.

I don't know who did the bottle smashing but there is a close up of the bottle hitting the aft end from an Italian paper which I am copying here:

Sorry for the late reply, the link made no difference, it's definitely Google Maps that I'm using. Doesn't really matter, thanks anyway.

Quoting the Google translation of https://www.metropolisweb.it/2022/04/29/castellammare-fincantieri-vara-troncone-prua-della-queen-anne/

That would explain why I didn’t recognise her. 😁

I did a quick search but didn’t find anything on the first page of results. You must have gone on to page 2.

This is now a very long thread and I hope I am not repeating what has already been said.
The Grills deck seems to be an open walk through on looking at the deck plans! I would so hope that Cunard goes the way of other lines and make premium spaces only accessible to those who should be using them. Years ago the key cards always had a symbol on them, to mark Grill  clients, and asked to be shown on occasions.
Certainly not rushing to book the maiden voyage, but if the right itinerary is there, we shall probably give it a go, as we cannot always harp on the past. We can live and dream that the next new ship will be smaller.
